It might also be best if someone else takes OP to the old home if it helps her grieve. Too many regrets for the aunt to go back there. Maybe with therapy she’ll come over the fact that she wasn’t able to mend the relationship before her sister died, but that’s definitely going to take at least months. Edit: saw the update. Yikes. That’s... uh... wow. I didn’t think their relationship was _that_ sour, but I can definitely see why Aunt may be a littttttle miffed at OP’s mom.

The 1st story isn't really tricky at all.. They both need to be 100% open about their fears and the issue or issues are that hurt her to go back.. That's not tricky or hard, neither is an AH, they are lacking communication skills.. The aunt feels the standoffish ways so she walks on eggshells around her and doesn't know how to take her.

Right? You can't just replace childhood memories with nice things! I have a very good relationship with my parents, at least in a general sense - everybody has their issues - and I still miss my childhood home. I told them as much. They are sad I miss it but we both openly talked about it, I made it clear it has nothing to do with what they gave me or why we had to move away, it's just a symbol of the times and the place where I made precious memories. I do not resent them and they do not resent me. It's really hard but you have to talk about it!

Back in the mid 1980s, while working in L.A. CA USA, I had a supervisor that was gay. One day, while trying to go over the weekly reports, he burst out in frustration " If this such and such don't add up this report will be nothing but a fairy tale!" His friend, another supervisor opened her mouth and he promptly turned to her and said "Not a word. Not a SINGLE word." Everyone on the floor in earshot was busy trying not to burst out in laughter. To put it in perspective, "Fairy" was slang/derogatory term to refer to gays back then. So... on the second story... with reference to the "fairy tale" comments... was the pun intended? Story 2 was so adorable. It reminded me of one of my friends who had only recently realized she was gay (she actually thought she was asexual and admitted she didn't know why she hadn't put together she was attracted to other women sooner, since she comes from an open and understanding family who would have readily accepted her preferences as well as having many queer friends. If I'm honest, sounds like she might be demisexual and she wasn't interested in anyone before this woman) when she realized she had a crush on a coworker. Everything she was telling us indicated this coworker not only liked her back, but had been flirting and making overtures before she even realized her own attraction to her, so my friends and I were like "go on, ask her out, do it!" and finally she did. Almost a year later they are ridiculously adorable together.
