The so called discount is short lived. I would also recommend not getting glass coverage that pays for chip repair. That is reported as a “claim” and a claim is a claim. If you try to look at other companies to save money they see you have a claim or more. You can tell them it was only chip repair. Doesn’t matter. They load for it! I once got conned into getting a Hum through Verizon that plugged into the OBD2 port. Had it on my wife's brand new Subaru. It was supposed to basically keep tabs on the car's health proactively, which it did poorly, but then the transmission started shifting erratically. Wasted time taking it back and forth to the dealer then simply removed the junky Hum and it was fine. Wish I had known beforehand. Great info as usual, Scotty!

My last truck had 16 quarts of fluid in the transmission but if you only drop the pan only 6 quarts comes out and the other 10 quarts of dirty fluid stays in the cooler/converter ect, so i get them flushed to get all 16 quarts of old fluid out no way im leaving all that dirty old fluid inside.

I've seen similar comments at least twice while reading the comment section. It's why I've never owned one. In a world where nobody else drives correctly or safely, there's way too many variables that go into play once you leave your place. Someone mentioned earlier about having to slam on their breaks due to stupid reasons and I understand completely. I could be driving 30mph in a 35mph zone and still, you get those people, more times than not, that will stop out of nowhere to turn without a turn signal. The insurance devices help insurances companies. Not you. I miss when insurance companies actually gave customers genuine discounts for no car accidents and other things. I had to dump Progressive years ago when all the discounts I had still wasn't enough to get the car insurance to go down. Was a Progressive member for a few good years, too. Found out a local car insurance agency could knock off $20/mo. Since I moved out of a country region, my insurance went from $50-something/mo to now $60-something/mo. Your insurance increases if you move from a country area, into a city area. I need to shop around again because after so many years, insurance companies just keep adding onto your insurance bill.

Yes they can internally short out and send 12volts through the CAN system and other low voltage circuits in the obd2 connector. If you want to shut off GM AFM just do it the right way and shut it off through HP Tuner and if you have one in for insurance savings you either have a bad record or need to find another insurance company…

Those OBDLink bluetooth adapers are quality. The mx+ being the latest and greatest. LX is good too (no ios support or some features). They have no conflicts when auto detecting the can bus and switching the American MS and SW. And can do bi-directional. They are great for gathering data for days at a time. The cheaper modules conflict and start screwing with the network. Mainly putting 13 volts where it shouldn't be. Who knows whats in those snapshot things and why they are even allowed after so many complaints.

5:49 I can't get into my air filter compartment. The mechanic at the Honda dealership tightened the screws so tight that I stripped the screws when trying to do it myself and the only way I can get the filter changed is taking it to a mechanic. I moved in 2019, and AAA recommended a mechanic right up the street from me. They just charged me $1700 to replace the alternator and fuel pump (the gas gauge has since been screwed up and the CD player doesn't work). I asked them to replace the air filter but I see it nowhere on my bill. They also told me I had an oil leak...which had one previously that they repaired (They didn't check for other leaks?). In a previous repair, they told me I needed new brakes, which had just been repaired. They told me that my previous mechanic used cheap parts. This car is a 2005 Honda Civic with 120,000 miles on it. They're charging me for more than what the car is worth! I reported them to AAA because their estimates always go above the high end of estimates, and they always seem to find "something else" wrong with the car. AAA did nothing. Useless.

I used Snapshot, and still get the small discount. But, it messed up my truck. I managed to get by with it plugged in for a couple months, and the company said they got enough data to give me the discount. It was giving just random errors in any computer. 10 years later cars have 5x as many computers, I can only imagine the crazy that would be happening in a new car.

Several years ago I used 1 from Verizon. It caused several lights to come on. I took it to Honda and they removed it. Luckily it did no damage.

ECUs were never designed to support anything but a temporary diagnostic device . They were never made to support a dongle or an external communication device.

I have no evidence to back this up but a good rule of thumb would be if your car has a throttle cable, it's probably safe to use a quality OBD based gauge continuously.

Just to say, in the province of Quebec in Canada it is forbidden by laws to have 10 years and older tires on a vehicle.

Was typing a question about the BlueDriver because I use that while driving to log live data under driving conditions...then he said that one is okay 👌

The insurance company didn't design the OBD, that's all you need to know. Think of the first router your ISP gave you when you hooked up your internet. It was probably cheap crap. The insurance companies will send a cheap dongle and if it fries your ECU good luck with that claim.
