Countless modern cars have the battery mounted in the trunk . it protects the battery from engine compartment heat , and extreme cold outside temperatures , the main things that shorten battery life . that's why it is not uncommon to see car batteries last 10 years now . cables can be as long as you want them , as long as they are the correct gauge . at least dodge made the starter easy to replace . ever replaced the starter on a tundra ? Replacing the alternator on that volvo is a walk in the park in comparison .

My Dad was a taxi driver in Australia. In the early 90s, the taxis were mainly EB Ford Falcons. Four litre straight six. It was so crowded under the hood that they relentlessly cooked the batteries of cars that were on the road 24/7. Repositioning the battery to the trunk in a marine cradle was a standard modification for that model. That created other issues. Good times! PS. Love your videos, Scotty. 👍

My OEM Miata battery was in the trunk of a white car. It lasted over 15 years. I finally replaced it for age but it still started the car . Heat kills batteries. Under the hood is convenient for mechanics, but they don't last as long. My daughter's HHR has the battery buried under the rear cargo panel, but it lasted a long time. That one was 10 years old before we replaced it two years back. HHR is a Cobalt/Equinox/Saturn Vue, but the retro fender made them move the battery.

Hybrids put the engine to high load after start to heat up faster and use the power produced to charge the battery. Eco and Power mode usually only change the gas pedal mapping, you get more power earlier, nothing else changes. Usually you can get better launch performance by braking and pushing the gas pedal at the same time, this will rev up the engine, just release the brake to launch.

I Never want to disagree with you on earlier Chrysler products because I have had multiple earlier vans and a currently a mint condition 1983 new yorker and all are Very Reliable, But I do agree that contemporary Mopar Quality has become Substandard, especially newer caravan transmissions. What do you think or a 2005 Kia Sedona van? my 1st 1 I must say it has been ultra reliable to me, couple small headaches - 1 dont try to buy original direct fit brake lines, cant get them, 2 rear valve cover gasket is a job and a half, 3 Rear heater hose I bought brand new, a job, 4 exhaust flex pipe rots - bought brand new with catalytic convertors - 5 wheel bearings, bought brand new, ----- Otherwise Very Reliable Never left me Stranded. Volvo may be stupid, but British Leyland was stupider! The makers of my ‘71 MG-B hung their batteries (yeah, two 6-volts) from the undercarriage. Access was through a door behind and below the seat. We have a custom built 2000 Dodge RAM 2500 Class 3 that we bought about 12-13 years ago. It's rusting like crazy but it's strong, runs great, and mechanically, hubs hasn't had to do much at all to it. Since we have no payments on it, we're keeping it and restoring it. It's great for heavy hauls like firewood, stone, mulch and all kinds of heavy stuff.

@@Christ_is_King777 Actually, I don't think it's even hit 100K yet, but if so, it's not much over. Oh, and the reason it's rusting so much is the original owner lived in Wisconsin (winter weather!) and it went through a hail storm. It was owned by a trucker who had it built to haul heavy transformers.

I remember replacing the brushes in my brother-in-law's Toyota Celica. 123K miles and that was the only work besides oil and filters. $8 for the brushes (many years ago) and the alternator was on top of the engine where it should be - super easy access. It was a five minute job. 8:00 - I remove the negative battery terminal first and reconnect the negative terminal last to prevent inadvertent spot-welding-a-wrench-to-the-engine short circuits. It's natural to disconnect the positive battery terminal to remove power, but disconnecting the negative terminal does the same thing and it's safer.

Volvo: First time I heard you bash Volvo! Kia: My flooring contractor has a 2012 Optima Hybrid loaded up. First the electric motor went out under warranty. But they said he had to pay $2000 for wiring not covered under warranty. After complaining to Kia, he got it down to $1000. After that he said the gas engine "blew up". I think you're right about Kia and Hyundai; they talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk.
