Yes that guy is barefoot.Going barefoot is very common in the Amish culture.

We have different definitions of craftsmanship depending upon what we have been exposed to as we grow up and how we are taught by others and also what we experience when we come into contact with other ways of doing things. It is what we learn and what we glean from experience as to what works and what does not that influences our level of craftsmanship. The Amish definitely have gleaned a lot of experience over the centuries as to what constitutes craftsmanship. And they are not alone.

I would not say that we are spoiled, in the sense that all through time, ever since we started to walk up on our hind legs, we have been always thinking of how we could do a job better and faster. It is not so much the physical end of things, granted people in the past because they did not have the technology, or the developed machinery did things with more physical labor did not know any different and of course they were accustomed to the physical labor. Even the Amish with their beliefs in not using machinery have to make concessions to the economics of the situation regarding production and cutting production costs. In some cases as we can see it may be more reasonable both in time and simplicity to continue to use simple tools and equipment rather than get complicated trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. As always us human beings are constantly challenging ourselves to build a better mousetrap and it is how we are wired like it or not. Regardless of the methods the interest in making a quality product that will stand up to the test of time is what counts.

Each subgroup of Amish have different rules about types of tools they are/aren't allowed to use. Some of the looser ones allow everything all the way up to tractors. There's actually a wikipedia page that lists many of them out. If you ever get a chance to talk to an Amish guy, take it. They're generally happy to tell you about it if you just ask them.

Lord Jesus bless and protect honest working men worldwide. Turn their hearts to their children. And the hearts of the children to their fathers. Bless families to put You first. And especially let husbands love their wives as Christ sacrificially loves His faithful commandment keeping remnant church. For Jesus glory amen. Lord send Your Holy Spirit Latter Rain Power for honest believers to be converted to Your Holy Word including the overlooked fourth commandment KJV that reminds us of Genesis 2:2&3. Jesus is our example for keeping the seventh day sabbath rest. This is all a spiritual battle over worship. Specifically the Biblical Sabbath. Sabbath is not sun day tradition observance of ancient pagan rome. Constantine in 321 A.D. thought to change God’s times and laws. BECAUSE he was a sun worshipper!!! Jesus said come out of her My people. And if you love Me keep My commandments. They plan to reinstate the sun day blue laws with persecution for Bible Sabbath keeping Christians. Choose wisely to please God.
