HRV or Heart Rate Variability is a non invasive biomarker that can be used to determine ones autonomous nervous system balance. By balancing this involuntary part of the nervous system it is believed that one can improve physical and cognitive function to an elite level. How hard can it be?

On the one hand, it's true. On the other hand, a run a lot of the time won't tell you much. If anything. Most of these physical manipulations will only give you results and effect over time. And incremental effects. Not instant drastic effects. So. I don't really know what knowledge there is to gain, other than him seeing if he likes doing that stuff or not. But it is far from a valuable assessment, neither for him self, nor the viewers. And that's kind of sad considering the effort that you mentioned, that he puts in. If we are hones, the main point is probably having something to post.

Just a suggestion, the Buteyko method is something similar, it also aims to bring you into a more relaxed state overall, it works by breathing less than you feel comfortable with, which makes carbon dioxide concentration increase, which in turn leads to increased tolerance and that means you run out of breath less, breathe quieter and calmer etc.

Hrv criteria is about frequency, buteyko about minute ventilation as volume. Hrv when done, if you can also lower per breath volume then it will get benefit co2 accumulation. İf norm for one is 15 breath per minute x 600 ml = 9 liter per minute, same person when drops to 5 breath per minute x 2000ml = 10 liter per minute. İdeally when rf applied, sametime goal should be also less volume consumption of air, less is more. Hrv trap is focusing only frequency snd forgetting volume consumption.

Definitely helps in the long term, but if you test your HRV real-time while doing "very little breathing" / Buteyko, you'll see it go down dramatically. Buteyko training is more similar to apnea training for divers

Very cool vid and I always appreciate the dedication to the experiments. I am fully aware that these are done out of curiosity and to provide first hand accounts and knowledge to these, very interesting, topics. While I understand the difference between BPM (Beats Per Minute) and HRV (Heart Rate Variability), I don't really see a practical application for the every day person as I can usually take something away from most previous experiments. Everything done here is also used to lower BPM. According to a 2021 article from Harvard Medical School titled: "Heart rate variability: How it might indicate well-being" (not sure if I can use links in comments) it states: "There are questions about the accuracy, reliability and overall usefulness of tracking HRV. While HRV has been linked to overall physical fitness, the correlation between changes in HRV and how your autonomic nervous system is functioning will require much more research." I guess all I'm trying to ask is, why track HRV when you can get most, if not all, the benefits from just lowering your resting heartrate (which is supposed to be measured first thing in the morning as well)? It doesn't require more accurate equipment (most smartwatches have good heart rate monitors) and is already proven to help with all the things (at least the ones mentioned in this video) a higher HRV is supposed to help. IDK, this is just a layman's opinion 🤷‍♀. Keep on keepin on man!

One thing I've heard is that you shouldn't focus on beats-pm with HRV breathing, but rather, to focus on *breaths* per minute. Forrest Knutson talks about it, personally I didnt watch a lot lmao but it was more for meditative states than basic health gains. I've gotten down to 1bpm (breaths) :)
@VegetaPrinceOfSaiyans
@VegetaPrinceOfSaiyans 8 ай бұрын
@@25thVictor 1bpm is great, a 30 second exhale is incredibly challenging and invigorating, and trying to go longer is even better. I try to exhale so slowly that i don't feel the air move in my nose.

@25thVictor 10 ай бұрын
Thoughts on HRV breathing being more about Breaths Per Minute? I remember a channel, Forrest Knutson, talking about it; He mentioned that 7bpm or lower is desired, though it's more for the sake of meditative states than regular health maintenance. Got into it a while back, I can get down to 1bpm if I combine it with box breathing. like a 4s in 4s hold 4s out 4s hold, but I do 15s for each :)

What I read is, that the HRV is not a fixed value. The range of what is considered high and low can be different from person to person. For example my optimal HRV range is between 75 and 110. And trust me, I am NOT and elite athlete :D . When I have a value of 70 and lower, I get a warning that I am unbalanced and overtrained. I had to wear my garmin device for at least 6 weeks to ge calibrated on my personal HRV range before it started to give me a status. Maybe your normal HRV is a bit on the lower site and my for example more on the higher site in general....
