30 Hz refresh rate was an old British cathode ray TV set. Played games off a Sinclair ZX Spectrum on that. 🙂 This is 2024. The lowest framerate should be 45. That is the point where the brain cannot detect updates. 90 fps is pointless on a Flight Sim. Unless you are training in a fast jet to avoid being shot down. 🙂

Thank you for the direct and important pointer towards Pimax. Coming from the G2, I heavily criticize the lack of effective and good motion smoothing/reprojection. In my opinion, this is an essential feature for VR headsets, and its absence is not up to date, and its simply unacceptable.

Smart Smoothing on my OG Pimax Crystal works. Though, it will only activate if your framerate is at least half of the hz of the display. I have to set my display to 75 hz and try to target 40 fps in MSFS 2024 and it will do a decent job doubling the framerate. It still has a bit of artifacts, though, like warping effects near the edges of windows and warping in the propellers.

$6000 USA dollars equals $8500 Canadian dollars, almost makes the Apple Vision Pro look like a good deal! LOL (I did say ALMOST 🤪) But agreed, the visuals in this thing must look simply amazing, having had my Pimax Crystal Light for a couple months now, that looks amazing to me. Even the Quest 3 looks amazing, I guess as long as it's not fresnel lenses, it looks amazing..... er uh, not so quick, the Pico 4 looks good, but not amazing, it has a lot of blur out of the sweetspot as compared to the Quest 3. You are fortunate to get to try all these super high end HMDs, stuff all of us can only dream of but will never be able to experience, you get to see how far VR has really come for those fortunate enough to be able to experience it. 😁

I'm still not convinced regarding MSFS2024. I'd like a version that doesn't have Avatars, Career Mode and dozens of aeroplanes above the trainers. If I want an aeroplane that demands more than a PPL, I'd buy it off the Marketplace. I was hoping for improved flight physics and ATC that works like ATC to make it a Flight Simulator. Instead, MS and ASOBO have gone for 'GAME' features. Aimed at youngsters with XBox. Not 'Simmers'.

I still use the Aero, and I‘m very happy with it (my 4090 is actually able to drive it). What I absolutely don‘t like about Varjo is the fact that shortly after inviting retail consumers as their customers, they dropped us (and longer term Aero support) like a hot potato. That was a business decision on their part that I found very disappointing. So for a successor to my Varjo Aero, I am looking someplace else…

In the market of high resolution VR headsets, there is not much choice these days. WMR has been abandonned by Microsoft, which signs the end of Reverb. Valve and Meta propose only medium resolution. Remains Pimax with its massive unconfortable headsets, and poor quality drivers. Their light version remove so many good features like eye tracking, that it’s not worth it imo. And having 4 softwares running in the background to run DCS, instead of 1 for Varjo. I wish Varjo will propose a replacement product for the Aero, because their product and software are top notch. Or Pimax may improve their stuff over the next years.

Hi Steve, would you consider testing the MeganeX Superlight 8K if you had a chance to get it before release? I pre-ordered one and hope that is right, as I now see that the Pimax Crystal Super seems to be competing with it and has better FOV and slightly better resolution at a lower price, while the MeganeX is apparently much lighter and has a diopter to account for being short-sighted. Btw: You should be able to get out once landed with the Icon A 5, as long as there is no bug. On my left Quest 3 controller, I just press the Y button and I am outside in free walking mode.

Does MSFS still support more than 39PPD? With the price, and all the ongoing issues reported with the XR-4 (Tiger stripes for one) the XR-3 with open license to me is a much better headset. Add to the fact the XR-3 comes with hand tracking and up to 70 PPD display for 1/2 the price of an XR-4, it boggles the mind why the XR-4 is popular..

I ran using Varjo Open XR, PPD level set one below "highest", with motion smoothing enabled and vertical sync set to 30fps. In terms of VR settings, I have a very detailed video on the channel which also relates to the XR-4. Thx for watching.

Iv put in a pre order for the 50ppd super with 135 degree fov.. against your advice actually. Fingers crossed they havent sacrificed too much binocular overlap for this.. if its bad it gets sent back and il get the 120 though. Im beyond exited as iv had the g2 for nearly 3 years now!

We have the XR4 as well and the problem is that the headset mainly has the graphics to play for. The tracking of the controllers is horrible, the controllers itself don't feel good and there is no Handtracking unless you buy an external "leap motion". So yeah it looks good, but it's useless for normal usage of VR or MR.

Your comment about the importance of motion reprojection cant be emphasized enough. Since Vr devs dont care about implementating quad view foveated rendering, this makes features such as fov cropping or motion smoothing even more important

Only problem is when you hit the water in the A5 all that water striking the prop would have destroyed the prop. You shouldn't have been able to keep flying if it was realistic.

But honestly, I can't understand why audio is always forgotten, and specifically why are not EVERYBODY using the Valve solution since is the best solution and it should be just the standard. Is like some car manufacturers would be using squared tires. The BEST solution for an specific component is just reached, god sake, use it! Pay the patent or make your own based on that design, but use it! It's simply frustrating.

The XR-4 has integrated spatial audio, although as I've come to learn, some people prefer to use their own solution. I agree though, both the Valve and Pimax DMAS speaker system is my fav.

Any other design has lower sound quality, lower volume and most of all lower bass fequencies. Using integrated audio nowadays is like using fresnel lenses: it's NOT the way, and it's known.

After what they pulled with the Aero I wouldn’t pay a penny for their products on the consumer side. Varjo must think we all have deep pockets like the militaries they work with do. They had unsold headsets and decided to sell to the consumers to offload them. Then announced they dropped support for the Aero as soon as they had the chance. No thanks, that’s shady business.
