I tried a pro training routine for a week... (it worked)

I got a hold of some of the most intelligent minds in the game to put together a training regimen for me to use throughout the week. The results and effectiveness of it were far better than I could have expected. Every single day, I showed up and played to the best of my ability.

Rocket League pros are far better than you can imagine. The skill gap between a pro player and a top 1% player like myself is ginormous. This week, I tried out a professional level training regimen to help me perform to the best of my ability every single day. It was a total success. I was shocked by how much of a difference a solid daily warmup routine can make in your gameplay. Everything you do from the moment you wake up plays into your performance way more than you'd think.

Rocket League actually does have a physical aspect to it, albeit a typically small one and it is mostly mental. Being able to move your fingers in exactly the way you want them to move is extremely important. Most people don't seem to struggle with this much, but I've experienced it a lot. I have a severe anxiety disorder and when I play competitively, a lot of times I get very anxious and my hands start shaking uncontrollably, which prevents me from controlling my car nearly as well as usual - I may flip the wrong way on accident, whiff a ball because my thumb twitched the stick the wrong way, hit jump on accident from my thumb shaking, etc. and there are people with more serious disorders or injuries/defects that physically prevent them from reaching their full potential. But yeah, average people have a good amount of control over their hands so in those cases it is 100% mental.

@icamwun
@icamwun 2 жыл бұрын
Its situational I'd say. If you're doing 3's its easier to hang up a bit and look for a bump or boost steal, but I don't think its ever a good idea just to hang in the box hoping for contact with the ball, you gotta rotate out at some point. In 2's, i'd pretty much just say get boost and get behind your teammate. If you overcommit and you teammate isn't going to 100% win the ball then you've just given the other team an open net.

it certainly depends. I'm barely Diamond but I just try to get pads or give up posession if there isn't any boost and it's 2v1. Reason being that if you get a bad challenge with no boost then you kinda leave your teammate in a 1v2 under goal. Since it'll take you forever to get back and the couple of seconds lost can give them possibly 2 shots if your teammate is forced an awkward save. Its up to your teammate to attack or not, whatever the context is, if they can get a good hit or challenge or if they are also playing safe due to score or their lead or timer. But generally if you have space and posession there is no need to give the ball up immediately since the enemy might not know you don't have boost and wait for you to knock it away from yourself

I’m in diamond 2 right now and believe it or not I’ve only been in diamond for a couple of months. Anyways, I’ve always had a mindset of “what is my teammate doing?” when I’m playing alone. Because then I am forcing myself to be conscious of the whereabouts of the man who is backing me up when I’m first. I also think “what are my opponents doing?” and just from this mindset I’ve been able to outplay my opponents a ton and now I’m close to Diamond 3 and still going higher!

I have noticed in the past that on the days I don't go to the gym and get a workout in (I.e. the weekend, where I have the most time to play rl) I tend to play significantly worse. Sometimes I only get an hour to play on the weekdays but even so I've climbed up to 1300 Elo only to drop down to 1150 on the weekend when I should be playing better because I have more time to warmup. Long story short, thanks for reminding me that even if I'm on a rest day and don't go into the gym that going on a 30 min walk is still an exercise and a great way to get the blood moving. Also just getting your diet in check in general will make you feel like you have a lot more energy throughout the day.
