I tried to 1v1 this driftwood while I was giving the tank a rescape and, well... I lost and we ended up 3v1ing the wood and I cut it 😓 But it came out kinda cool 🤙

"So I resorted to violence" 😂 man people don't understand the hardest thing in fish keeping next to live coral is keeping central and SA community cichlid tanks. Love how you explain the importance of hierarchy and tank boss!! No one really does that beside you. Keep it coming man

I understand the pain you went through with this. Working at a wholesaler importer we'd find ourselves in some insane situations moving fish tanks without measuring the space between the top of the tank and the roof.

Not yet, but its slight less buoyant so maybe another year

Thanks! Yea I found this piece close to 2 years ago but it came from the beach unlike most of the wood that I get from lakes and rivers. Normally any marine parasites and organisms living on the wood will die if kept in fresh water for an extended period of time. It was too big to soak so I pressure washed it and being added to my freshwater tank any life should have been nuked. Wood that I find in freshwater environments or from a forest I try to boil and if its too big to boil I soak pressure wash it and get a kiddy pool and soak it in salt water.
@BradK0210 ай бұрын
How did you treat the wood after picking it up from the beach. Looks great.
@stoneysscapes754410 ай бұрын
@BradK02 I don't know what D does but the way I have been doing it has been driving back with whatever I found is a couple of minutes @ a U do car wash for the power washer and sometimes I might even clean my ride , and then I have a 50 gallon storage.bin with 2 wheels and a removable steering handle I bought from TARGET . His probably wouldn't completely fit but it is still just the same, boil the largest pot and pour over the wood with hand protection and repeat.until you have enough to do all or just keep moving the pieces until everything has been under . Usually after a couple days of additional lots of boiled water and usually a 50 lb. object from the bench press in a few weeks or so most likely the pieces will be ready to go in the tank !
@dwsdarius10 ай бұрын
I power wash it first to remove external debris. I have a kiddie pool that I would normally let large pieces soak in with salt to treat for parasites but being that this piece came from salt water I just soaked in freshwater because freshwater will nuke most marine parasites. I let it soak for a few weeks and that's it.

Do you not feel it takes up a little to much space from within the tank considering the size of the fish?
@dwsdarius10 ай бұрын
These fish don't swim much, instead they choose a territory and chill there for the most part, this helps with aggression because it has two natural dividers breaking the tanks complete line of sight.
