Dopamine detox doesn't have to mean solitary confinement! It's not "cheating" to go out with friends or family when you're detoxing, in fact it's the exact purpose of detoxing, getting off your phone and actually LIVING in the REAL WORLD!
@Shirumoon
@Shirumoon 11 ай бұрын
I think not being with other people and not living life fully is what causes this addiction in the first place. So absolutely go out and live during a dopamine fast.

I feel like "dopamine detox" is such an odd choice of words in general. "Social Media Detox" seems to be much more fitting and is more what it _should_ be in my opinion. Dopamine is great for our brains in healthy doses. It's also completely unproblematic when it stems from "natural" activities such as spending time with people you love, and practically any hobby that doesn't involve social media and its never-ending instant gratification effect. I also think striking music and movies doesn't make much sense, either. Music is very cultural and emotional, same as movies. TV Shows I can somewhat get behind if a person falls into binge-watching easily. It's odd how people deprive themselves of natural things that bring us joy in the name of mental health, when it's just social media on its own that's almost always the root cause of our problems.

@PeachieDay 10 ай бұрын
I think they said "cheating" because if they spent those 3 days out with friends they wouldn't have been on their phone much anyway which would defeat the point of it being a challenge, and not that meeting friends is something that needs to be cut out in general.

love this video, and just a reminder that its not your fault that youre addicted to your phone. apps are literally designed to get you hooked, and resisting that is such a little revolution. hopefully i will try this next week xx

Actually it is your fault you're addicted to your phone because you want to use it. The word Addiction has a lot of history behind it, but I'll give the TL;DR You only want to do the things you want to do. "Want to do" refers to your pursuit of happiness. Specifically it's what you believe your pursuit of happiness is. Eg. You spend time looking at memes on Instagram instead of doing your homework. The app can't make you scroll there. You consciously choose to do so. If there was some sort of force that made you do it, you'd never stop. You decide that the consequences of your actions or inaction are worse than the activity you are currently doing. Back to our example, you'd rather pass your class than look at Instagram memes. However, it wouldn't be weird at all to say you'd rather be laughing at memes than doing your homework. It's only the consequences that make you stop, unless of course you don't want to do it anymore. It's called the Positive Drive Principle. You actually have free will and cannot be controlled by objects. I read it in a book called The Freedom Model.

i've never commented on a youtube video but i feel like i have to say something to you and (i hope) the peolple that are reading this. i was a social media addict, spent 4+ hours on my phone everyday, had FOMO, anxiety, i was never able to do anything without having my phone with me. Then i realized that it was a problem. it has been 2 years since i deleted every social media, now i watch my phone like 30 minutes per day. the thing i wanted to say is: don't you recognize that it is a problem that you refere the same simptoms of abstinence as an alcoholic or as a person that takes heavy drugs? PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW! please please please make the big step of deleting social medias for a few months for your mental health!!! i was in the same place as you and i know that it is scary, but I can tell you that ever since i did that my life completely changed. now I'm more focused, i have deep emotional relationships, i recieve better grades at Uni, I do so much many things. please also remember this: one day you will be old, what will be the memories that you have of your youth? do you want to remember the good experiences you lived or all the time you spent on tiktok watching stupid videos? please consider this message, it is so important for our generation.

Same until ive known its haram to listen to it , so I quit listening to music, now its been almost three years 🧡 it wasn't so easy especially its playing everywhere BUT i made it, and If i wanted to listen to smthing i would simply go with quran recitation or poetry or podcasts, yt and these are not as addictive as music, you really can quit it if u have a strong purpose , may allah guides us all.

@@audeedawow2529 Erm I would say tailor it to what would work best for you. For example Tiktok and youtube are my main time wasters so I eliminate those and it really helps me clear my mind. However I don't eliminate music like some people because I really enjoy it and I'm usually too overstimulated by everything else to want to listen. Also some days I turn my laptop and phone both off and some I would just limit the usage to text, internet searches etc. Whatever gives you the most benefit is fine, no hard and fast rules.

dopamine might not be the right word here tho? 'dopamine detox challenge' is such a chronic tiktok thing to say. this would make more sense as a social media detox. we get dopamine through many things, not just 'external stimuli'. drinking, reading books, hanging out with friends, sex, all of these involve rushes of dopamine so the idea of getting rid of dopamine entirely is ridiculous and frankly not possible. (unless you are clinically depressed, even then dopamine is not something that will never be secreted) this is a lovely video and you're very relatable, also i have never heard of this challenge so i may be misunderstanding a lot of things, but to get rid of things like music (if it is something you depend on and enjoy) you should never need to get rid of that! social media itself is negative due to how it rots our brain with content overload with no actual intellectual value, and it tends to reduce our attention span, working memory, patience, and creativity, but things like deleting spotify is definitely not necessary, coming from somebody who essentially cannot do many things without music. i hope we understand that dopamine (a hormone secreted when we feel pleasure, in layman terms) and other such hormones are crucial for our wellbeing (psychological, and thus physical) i am all for getting rid of social media or netflix, i too am actively trying to reduce mindless consumption, but that would not be a dopamine detox that is just an overconsumption detox. this is a great video though! just a lot of generic minsinformation spread through this challenge (if its even popular or common)

hi! I totally get what you’re saying and makes a lot of sense, I just wanted to try a trend I saw in tiktok, but I see why the title might not be the best at describing that :) I hope you liked the video either ways!

they call it a dopamine detox because we get small bursts of dopamine from things such as social media that dont actually fulfill our craving for relief. instead they build up your tolerance and makes it harder for you to experience dopamine in the long run

Make your phone BORING. My phone is super boring, so I reach for it less. Use a TV and only own ONE and DO NOT keep it in your room. Listen to the radio instead of downloading music. Go for walks and spend time outside. Buy stuff to do indoors. Puzzles, novels, paints, crafts. Keep a list of chores and what needs to be done daily. Hang it in the hallway or by the bathroom. Buy 3 plants in the least. Keep in contact with friends and family, call someone every day and see if they're free some time that day. Basically, live the same way I did as a kid. We had 3 TVs and a computer, game systems too. But I enjoyed spending my days outside and then my mornings and nights relaxing indoors. Social media wasn't important but if I did want to chat I'd call. Or head to their house to visit. It's really nice. I enjoy life with less social media.

If your phone settings allow it, I would really recommend setting timers on any app you're addicted to. I have timers on all of my social medias and once the set time for example 30 mins a day is used up, you can't access the app until the next day. In emergencies you can gain access again but I usually just stick to it. It's really helpful.

i really want to do this.. i feel the same as you, it's like everytime i'm with myself or just in a boring situation i want to scroll thru social media or text people. i am okay being alone but i've just realized that most if not all of my alone time is spent being entertained by tiktok or youtube or a movie/show. i used to be such a creative kid and would spend hours outside or having fun with art things or little imaginary roleplays. i really miss that and how my mind kept me occupied. the last 6 months of my life have been really tough for me, and i think this detox could greatly help me realize how good life really is and how meaningful it can all be. whether its creating art, reading, bonding with others or just meditating alone, its all beautiful but we are so used to distracting ourselves that we forget. i dont know if you will see this but thank you for making this video! it was comforting to know that other people struggle with this issue too. right now its 2am so i am going to sleep and then i will start the detox! im not sure for how long but i am gonna just try for a few days at first. again, tysm for this video, it helped alot.

Your journey in trying a dopamine detox is truly fascinating and brought me back to the insightful teachings of my life coach, Lisa Haisha, during a retreat in the Philippines. Both your experiment and Lisa's wisdom from The Soul Blazing continue to inspire me. It's a reminder of the importance of taking intentional breaks to reset and appreciate the simple joys in life.

One thing I did to get rid of accidentally pressing apps is to keep my phone screen (sometimes computer screen too) only grey scale. That way I do what I was supposed to do on that phone and not get jinxed by developers who make distracting app icons. Thank you for sharing your experience :3

Sorry for using my native language, it's just hard to me to write on english instead of listening :с Видеть подобные видео и приятно, и очень тоскливо одновременно. Thank you.

I'm sorry for what's going on, I know it is not fun to be in the middle of a war. Life feels heavy, and not everything is what we wish it was. Perhaps you can seek company, either by hanging out and making new friends in person, or making friends/having pen pals online. Human connection is a necessity, especially in rough times, and the last few years have definitely been rough. It won't last forever though: the sun is still shining, even if all you can see right now are the clouds. There's a Danish concept of "hygge" that might be useful to you. Instead of looking out at the world and what's going on, make your immediate surroundings as cozy and comfortable as you can, and focus on your daily life. Not what will happen tomorrow or next week, but what's happening now. What can you do right now to make this moment a little bit better? It won't change everything, but it might help you feel like there's something to wake up for, even if that's drinking a tea you like and reading a book, or chatting with the neighbors/friends. Perhaps you could also do random acts of kindness. When life sucks, sometimes it's easier to think of someone else, and you can feel better by doing something to make them feel better. Buy someone flowers or a gift, or cook or bake for them, or help them around the house with errands. It can boost moral for you and for the other person, which is what everyone in your situation needs. Again I am sorry, I wish you safety and comfort, and a future you can look forward to ❤️

im literally glued to my phone so im trying to be less on it. My goal for now is 3 hours a day, for some that might not be a huge goal but thinking about it my average screen time is around 5-8 hours 😭 im not ready to cut out music or tv yet tho, but hey its better than before and i have more time to do other stuff like hobbies
The 'Dopamine Detox' trend needs to end.
