Using the touchscreen boosting FPS may be a "touchboost" kind of thing. This is commonly used in Android smartphones: as soon as touch input is detected, CPU and GPU frequency are automatically increased for a while to ensure the device feels responsive to the user input.

ARM-based hardware will run properly on ARM-supported software, and same goes for x86. It requires translations to run x86 software on ARM hardware. Imagine playing Cyberpunk 2077 on your Samsung phone. x86 and ARM are different instruction sets that are built for different kinds of hardware, and ARM is more suited for efficiency rather than power.

Lenovo, HP and other Microsoft OEMs have been doing that for quite a while now. Most noticeably on their 2 in 1 devices. The great thing about Microsoft and its OEMs is that there is a healthy competition pushing each other to improve. Which was the goal of the Surface line way back in 2012. I recognized that "phasing in" visual effect the moment you said it--that wasn't prism, that's the auto SR feature of the laptop kicking in, and... not working great. I've had it pop in on a couple of games I've played--and how I've fixed it is by changing the rendering resolution of the game, and then changing it back. That usually gets rid of the errors for me. I bet turning on FSR did something similar.

I don't think NVIDIA nor AMD even have ARM drivers for Windows available. They definitely do have some for Linux but: 1. To be honest, for a glorified phone CPU/iGPU, this is a pretty great result. The 40ish FPS in GTA V is 10fps better than my Phenom II X4 / HD5750 1GB GDDR5 managed in 2015 (even tho that was much smoother). Still, this ARM stuff is bad for us enthusiasts as the focus seems to be on making everything soldered and unupgradeable.
@frequentfrenzied
@frequentfrenzied 3 ай бұрын
Everything being soldered is more of an ultrabook thing than an Arm thing. All of the x86-64 based machines are doing the exact same thing. They are focused on making everything as thin as possible, so daughter boards and the easy upgradeability that they bring are out. The good thing is that hardware requirements are not rising anywhere near as fast as they used to be for the type of workloads that machines like this are built to handle, so you don't really need to upgrade the computer during the typical life-span anymore as long as it was reasonably spec'd to begin with. Still, if you are worried about that, then hopefully Framework will release a compute module with an ARM processor on it as they always make their computers as upgradeable as possible.

What you are experiencing in the games is most likely shader / JIT code compilation happening in the background. As for the visual artefacting it is most likely a bug caused by differences in graphics hardware, a simple rounding error in the generated shaders can cause odd visual issues. For the games refusing to launch they are most likely silently closing as they assume that any x86 cpu trying to run them would support AVX instructions which are supported by pretty much any CPU out there that can run W10/11. Prism either does not report AVX instruction support when the program checks if they cpu supports them or they are not supported at this time. if the CPU is identified as "Westmere" which is Intel Core 2nd gen in CPUID then Prism not supporting AVX instructions is most likely why some games refused to boot.
