I fully appreciate the mans dedication and theory on "primal living" which I think lots of people give him shit about. I think any lifestyle that gets you outside, challenging yourself, and one that gets you to eat nutrient dense foods, is a great lifestyle. The man himself however, probably slightly nutty.

I'd never heard about the "Liver King" I love long distance sled drags, I wouldn't do them with a vest or carrying weight. **I'm sure this is a real gut check though**. One of the great things for me about drags is that I get a form of traction out of them. A lot of times when dragging I'll lift my arms overhead in good scapular retraction. I can sort train decoupling my lower body and upper body, my hips have to move independent of my spine Try it if you have tight QL muscles. Also, Sled pushes/pulls are the only thing that gave me calf development.

Hell of a job! That is some grueling work, & as you said the mental fortitude is the biggest part (assuming you don't get the forearm pump from hell, & can no longer grip the bells). I regularly ruck 2 miles in hilly terrain, & have done a 1 mile walk on the same terrain with two 16KG kb, & had considered adding a single kb to my rucking, & then I came across Liver King, & the Barbarian March. I clearly don't look like that, but adding kettlebells, & a sled (need to make a tire sled) is definitely something I will be adding to my training to increase work capacity, & mental toughness. I would definitely much rather do this than some LSD running.

Most people criticize Liver King, focusing on only the worst possible attributes, rather than acknowledging all of the good. Is he a completely natty primitive tribesman sleeping in a hut and using only handmade tools and hunting for all food in the wild? No. Does he have to live exactly that way to be more "primal" and "ancestral"? No. He doesn't claim to be a primitive tribe member like the Maasai he has spent time with. He's a multi-millionaire living in Texas who drives an F350. He only claims to try to incorporate more aspects of primitive living INTO our modern culture - not live completely primitively. People who think he should live like a caveman clearly don't actually listen to anything he says or does, otherwise they wouldn't hold him to such an absurd standard. Regardless of whether or not he currently takes steroids (my guess is no, but that he did for many years - hence the bubble gut), everything he preaches is true. Diet, exercise, sunlight, sleep, shielding from harmful elements such as EMFs, grounding, spending more time in nature and away from technology, are essential truths for human health, backed by science and biology. Just don't look to him as a perfect human, rather take some simple inspiration from the insane work ethic and dedication he exhibits, and you'll be good to go. No one is perfect - not you, not me, and not Liver King. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
