That was a fantastic explanation of exactly what the lifting gear shirt/ equipment is. I've had friends in acquaintances use these and they kind of break down trying to talk about it because it's more about a feeling. Watching this showed me exactly how wacky and weird and interesting doing something like that is. 1,000% more respect for that sport for sure like anything when you know a little bit more about it.

When I first started using lifting gear it increased my raw bench 50 to 100 pounds same for the squat , I would highly recommend it to someone trainning for strength, but I would not recommend it for a new lifters , I had at least 5 years of training before I got in to a shirt and I started off with a belt then knee wraps and wrist wraps then I moved up to the lifting gear .

I don’t have a problem with equipped lifting but it doesn’t make much sense to me in the bench press. I understand the need for the squat and the deadlift but if strongmen are even using multiply shirt to OHP/logpress 200+kg, it doesn’t really make sense to me. Seems more like overkill to fix a sticking point
@1gregmoreira2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know. For me personally…. When I hit a plateau on the bench… I’ll do a couple weeks of pin presses. One of the variations I will do is to set up the pins about 60 percent of the way up in my range of motion, so when I sit the bar on it…. I’m starting very high and only pressing the last 40 percent of the range. Given that I’m starting so high, I can go much heavier than normal. When I get stuck under normal circumstances, I get stuck 3 or 4 inches off my chest. But for whatever reason…. This approach helps me anyhow even though I’m only hitting the top And at least in my mind…. I “think” it’s because I’m handling such heavy weight for the pin press. Just the mere act of handling an extra 50 lbs or so in this short range seems to make me stronger everywhere. At the top of his range he was still handling 565 lbs, so that must count for something
@squatplugenthusiast36672 жыл бұрын
@@1gregmoreira I agree that the multiply bench shirt is going to increase his max, but my only worry is that the risk to reward ratio for handling that much load and counting on a mechanical advantage from the shirt. The risk is dumping the weight on the neck, or the short tearing (low possibility) and the reward is to train through your sticking point. I think it’s smarter to just do the more specified pin-presses from your sticking point.

Whats the point of geared benching from a fitness perspective. it looks like it doesn't help get you stronger in any practical application, even a raw bench as the mechanics, range of movement, and bar path are totally different then un equipped benching.
