Just an FYI on this video - I think it's important to note, that every country I've mentioned that I've struggled to be plastic free in, both the locals have agreed and some are strongly opposed to these statements. I am obviously commenting on my own experiences and I believe it comes down to every country is still learning and still struggling. I think the longer you live in a location, the more you know how to live plastic free. So if anyone is offended about me pointing out faults in your country, please don't be. It's not a statement against you as a person but in general how far we still have to go as a world. And I could only comment on these countries as they were the ones I recently was in. I'm sure the rest of the world is struggling incredibly bad - I'm off to Asia right now and this place has an unbelievable plastic problem. Secondly - it's a great valid argument from so many Vegans that this should exactly apply to Veganism also. I completely hear you. I'm not making shying away from the fact that i'm not vegan. I'm definitively trying and have mostly minimised my use of animal products to fish, eggs and butter all organically sourced. But I hear you Vegans. I hear you.

You are on a great journey. And yes, veganism is important, but many movements are, and you cannot always target them all, and you cannot start them all at once. As a vegan I tell you, don't worry about how you are not part of all these movements yet, think of what you can easily incorporate from all of them and add more at your own pace. You seem to already be doing this, just dont let other people get on your head to the point where your journey is purely stressing about what you are not yet doing. Let your journey be about the wonders you can do with each new small change you make in your every day life. Enjoy your metal cup of coffe. Enjoy the cow you didnt eat. Enjoy even the effort you spent on getting a better sourced animal product. You'll get to incorporate higher steps on each movement when you get there. You are putting a lot of effort on thinking of the world and the other beings you share it with; you are already on the right track. All the best!

I tried going plastic free, but like you said, it’s super draining to constantly be thinking about it every time you need to purchase or use something. Especially when there are so few options available. I found that in he Midwest here, people don’t think about the impact of plastic as much as they do on the coasts. Maybe because we don’t have a large body of water near us for the plastic to float in and constantly remind us, idk. But what I’ve found works best for me in this situation is to continue to turn down straws and plastic things that come in contact with food and drink. Other than that, I try to buy second hand. And I don’t worry about the item being plastic if it’s purchased second hand because it’s already been manufactured and brought into the consumer loop. I’m giving it new life and keeping it from the dump. Therefore, thriftiness a plastic item is actually BETTER than purchasing a NEW non plastic alternative imho. (As long as it’s not intended for food use).
@user-ry6jj6kx2s6 жыл бұрын

I just jumped on board... Small steps... I got myself tote bags for shopping, reusable produce bags, my own travel cutlery and straw set, water bottle, stainless steel food container to pack food in and also to take home leftovers from restaurants, Cloth pads for that time of the month ( already used them and I'm in love, could never go back to disposable) and all these thing we're not expensive with the exception of the pads but they are a initial investment but will pay for themselves over time (complete huge kit for $200) I mean come on, we pay more then that for new phones that only last a year and if you take care of your pads they can last 10-15 years I've been told by the company. Let's all take small steps to make a huge impact before its to late!!! Any little bit helps!!! Much love 😍👍🙌

Then I just started using them all the time and discovered it wasn’t difficult to use them at work.

yo! totally inspired to take on this challenge. Did you know that LUSH sells solid blocks of henna hair dye? Henna is the best thing you can do to your hair, as it doesnt strip the hair but colors it on top, creating a thick and lushious layer. It doesn't fade(!) so you'd need just a tiny chunk to dye your roots every now and then. The LUSH one is cocoa butter based(reason why its solid in a chunk) so it also has hair mask qualities.

Lush isn't really environmentally friendly (sadly, theres microplastic in the cosmetics...). Plus their haircolor isn't the real deal - it's too weak and if you want true black/dark brown you need to do it diffrently. First prepigment with henna (2hrs) and then indigostruggles (doesn't want to be heated over 60 degrees, celcius, works for about 6hrs, you might need more then one round). And then no washing for two days... It takes a lot of time, it's inconvenient, but it's soooo good for your hair and your body, you can buy it in bulk and if you look long enough you get it in paper bags instead of plastic... Research is key to anything plant based - I have cut out all premade cosmetics and cook my own shampoo, moisturizers, ... even hairspray and I'll never go back to store bought 😃

I always bring my own non plastic bag to the groceries and try to use it as less as possible. The video motivates me to change more habits and encourage my family to do so, thank you

You should definitely check out lush because they have plastic free hair dye that is natural. I also love there shampoo bars. I personally can’t go fully waste free because I live with my parents because I’m young.XD But I do take steps to reduce waste mainly in toiletries. I’m officially obsessed with bars of soap. The hardest thing for me is to ask for no straw or plastic bag because I’m socially awkward. Thank you for sharing this video because youtubers like you helped me to think about the trash I’m throwing away.

Im not entirely zero waste yet. But I agree, when you start minimising your plastic waste and actively seeking out the things that are plastic free, it feels so amazing when you find those rare gems! Everytime I order a shake and the lady selling it puts it in my reusable bottle, I get so happy. My zero waste journey so far has brought me so much joy. Heck, even shaving with my safety razor makes me happy.

I am german, so i apologize my following english. I have the same ,, problems´´ with veganism. Quote minute 9:05: ,, The hardest part is that you dont understand why people just cannot do small changes,...., they can make such a diffrence in the world and people choose not to do it and this hurts`` But also here the world changes and this ist great. In addition to that i cannot understand why people would rather cut out plastic and sacrifice soooo much than just to search alternatives for there animal producs like plantmilk or vegan cheese. There are so many awsome things out there. Also you are doing eliminating plastic for enviormental reasons. If you choose to eat or live vegan you help the enviroment (co2 emission, water polution), your health and the animals for ,,less work/afford`` and you have so much more positiv effect. Do not get me wrong. The work that you are doing is amazing and i am looking forward do limit my plastic as much as you do but it sucks to see how much everyone has the understanding for the plasticproblem but not for the importants of reducing animalproducts.

Heck yes. I feel the same. New Zealand is doing pretty bad on plastic too and whenever I see an organic shop I get super excited and pop in:. most likely to see meat and cheese in there though.. it’s such emotional topics (both veganism and going plastic free) when you truly face them

I agree so strongly with you on this point! I mean, living without plastic is a great start and everything, but if you're still buying animal products you contribute so much more to producing tons of waste than buying a few things wrapped in plastic, not even mentioning the unnecessary animal abuse.. For me the ideal is to live vegan and plastic free.

I completely agree! Veganism, in most countries, is so easy now and it hurts my heart that people are so closed off to it. It's made me happier, healthier, and more connected to the world. Plus it's the cheapest diet if you stick to beans, grains, fruit and veg. My grocery bill is $30 Canadian per week!

I converted to a menstrual cup and Thinx underwear 4 or 5 years ago to save money and because they make it seem like I'm not even really on my period. I have seen how that switch was both good for me and for the environment and am looking to expand and make more changes for the better. I am now enjoying the KZbin rabbit hole of finding ways to also save money and the earth. I have replaced my plastic Tupperware with glass and have bought some glass straws and I use stainless steel water bottles. I do like the idea of bees wax wraps instead of cling wrap. I didn't even think about the toothbrushes! I will definitely be switching those. Thank you for sharing your experience and being mindful of both people and the planet.

Wow... you have done SO WELL! I've been living this way most of my life having lived for years in my youth on the Gulf Islands, with no garbage pickup. You learn really quickly to watch what you are buying and what it comes in. It's not as hard as people think, just means being aware. Also the more people make a stink the better it will get. In Canada, at least in the places I've lived, the grocery stores are about 50%... so it's pretty easy to find things not in plastic. Buying bulk is everything. And making your own stuff, which is generally better quality anyway... and you start to feel really good about it all. Like you eat better foods because you know what goes into it and yeah, junkfood. Still eat it but only when I find unplasticky stuff. I'm so happy people are starting to catch on... wish it hadn't taken so long. Thanks for making such a fantastic video!

Sweden for example is burning all it's trash so the plastic is at least not getting into the nature as it would with landfills, so that's great! They also made a law about shops having to inform customers about the effect plastic bags have on the environment - so nowadays you almost never get a plastic bag from the store if you don't ask (and pay) for it! So there are definitely things that can be made!! :) I also have a question. You say that you travel full time.. have you thought about how that affects the environment? :3

Take your tin box or tin foil to the store and get your chicken in it. I bought a bunch of small nylon bags (yes thats plastic but i have used them hundreds of times and can wash them in my normal laundry & will use them hundreds of more times) from a thrift shop that are super lightweight and hold things like nuts, grains and dry fruits till I get them home and into jars. They scrunch tiny and i just keep them in my purse, so I have them when I happen by a store.

Hello Sorelle, thank you for sharing your experiences about living plastic free. I've been minimizing my plastic use as well but being from the third country on the list of biggest plastic polluters, the struggle is real. This is a little dramatic of me but I cry a little inside when I see plastic littered as I walk on the streets. I pick them up as I go but I can only do so much. At this point, I'm at the mentality that we can never truly live 100% plastic free. But we have to try. As you say, every bit of effort helps.

I have a good toothpaste recipe. Maybe that will be my next video. Coconut oil, peppermint essential oil (also can use lemon and orange and others) sea salt, and baking soda. I add a little activated charcoal too from time to time for whitening, but you have to be sure it's "activated charcoal" in the bottle in capsules, not regular charcoal.

Great video. Way to go Sorelle. I need to work on this too. I was thinking using a basket from home for fruits and vegies at the store would be good. Our county is all plastic-bag free. People have to bring their own bags or pay for paper bags. But I always use my bag made of recyled plastic that I got from a state park in Hawaii. :)

@lkasper17106 жыл бұрын
Sorelle Amore I think in Germany you have to buy plastic bags in the shops, if you want some, and there are always other bags to buy (paper etc.). So everybody has to think about using plasic bags. We have also a recycling system even when you need more energy to recycle, its good, because you can use it again, i think. But using aluminium is not even better, maybe it is easier to recycle but it is dangerous for your health and Nature gets destroyed...
