@ciararyan-gerhardt60262 жыл бұрын
Ya, I wonder about this too, because it really is very impressive and in all her other fitness videos/challenge accepteds. I wonder is it because of her young/early background in professional cycling; does any background in professional sports train you to be that "trainable"? Give you the baseline fitness, discipline, motivation, and mental aspect necessary to be able to try all the other sports too? Or it's not this and it's how athletic, positive and dedicated Michelle is. After all she trains 5x per week :)
@azzgunther2 жыл бұрын
@@ciararyan-gerhardt6026 Good thoughts. I just finished watching her rock climbing episode and there was a moment early (at around 2:50) where the climbing instructor told her his philosophy about heights and the viewer can see her quickly master her fear impulse and internalize his message, all within about three seconds. Most people would indulge in their fear impulse in this situation and squeal and moan about their feelings, but she has developed something of a Stoic ability to move past feelings and into useful thoughts. As you say, probably skills learned from competitive cycling earlier in life.
@est994911 ай бұрын
@@azzgunther I'm very interested in what you said about stoic ability. Could you share some books or resources on learning that?
@azzgunther11 ай бұрын
@@est9949 I would preface by saying that we've lived our entire lives up to this point getting so many negative influences from our weak society. We've probably internalized and normalized being weak, as easily as being hungry or tired, and so the changing this will require time and patience and dedication. Don't expect everything to reveal itself at once; Michelle did not become tough by reading one book. With that said, I think that Daily Stoic on KZbin is a good primer for the way the philosophy works, and that Marcus Aurelius' Meditations is an accessible book for making small, positive gains. After that, the third step would be implementation by doing challenging things and utilizing the mindset - utilizing the ability to stand up to discomfort and move right past it. I'd also recommend Sam Harris' book about mindfulness: "Waking Up".

I’m so surprised about the teacher. He’s literally the best teacher that I saw from Michelle’s show. He had her back when he thought she was about to fall, and he showered her with compliments. He made the instruction clear and simple too. Great video Michelle! Keep breaking the stereotypes!💜💜 we love you!
@catinabox304810 ай бұрын
He's also great with scaffolding. You can see how he starts with easier, doable exercises that give her a basic sense of how the exercise is done and that build her confidence, and then gradually increasing the difficulty level based on how she responds, such that by the time they get to actually doing the full skill he's trying to teach, it no longer seems nearly as intimidating as it was in the beginning. He never goes from zero to a hundred.
@dakaodo6 ай бұрын
@@catinabox3048 It's a really excellent approach, and one that I learned to apply to everything else in my life, thanks to parkour. In the groups I trained with, I learned how to coach this way as progression building. It's like what fitness trainers call modification, when they show clients/students variations that are easier or more challenging than the default. Progression or scaffolding as you called it lets us break a single target movement or exercise into a series of connected achievable milestones, each of which contributes one simple movement or even part of a movement that all build into a whole compound or challenging movement. Michelle's awesome Black Widow stunt training video shows them using similar building methods. You can use this approach for any task or project, from building an outline for an essay or research paper, to a multi-month project at work, to breaking down a kong vault, etc. I've seen this approach used in a lot of different physical activities, but I learned it best through parkour and some adjacent cross-training. On concrete and street/park walls and handrails, we have no safety buffer like a crash mat. So if we don't want to literally break a kneecap or cheekbone, we need to be very intentional about building these progressions in a way that fits each individual's ability in each moment and at each stage in their training. Maybe you have learned the skill overall, but you just got over being sick last week, you didn't sleep well last night, or you missed breakfast this morning -- adjust your intensity level and expectations accordingly. What Jesse said near the beginning is absolutely something I learned and taught as well -- parkour training (and I think all other physical/sport training) is about finding your limits overall and in the moment, doing your utmost safely within those limits in the current moment, and over time learning to push and expand your overall limits in a safe and healthy way. The great thing is that there's no single fixed process for learning this way. For example, there are tons of different ways to build progression into the kong vault they learned here. We didn't have crash mats at the park, so we couldn't encourage new participants to do a full send over a foam block and land on mats on the far side. So we used a more incremental process of acclimatization. The student would hop in place, placing their hands on a railing. Then they'd kick back with one leg, going into the hop. Then they'd approach from a step into the hop and kick. Separately, they'd work towards hopping into a mid-air push-up for a moment, on the railing. This would progress into a tucked planche. Combine with prior and concurrent training on hundreds of ground level shoulder rolls as well as emergency bail shoulder rolls where the student would start from a crouch and deliberately trip themselves on a sidewalk curb into a shoulder roll, building up to static start on the ground with one or both feet tripping on a handrail behind the student. This would be muuuch slower and more risk-conscious than training in a gymnastics gym. I didn't learn a kong in a day, or even in a week. And I wouldn't want to let any student just yeet themselves in a day either, b/c the possible consequences would be much more severe than on a mat. So the gym environment is great for faster learning and going through complete movements sooner, letting the student know how it feels all the way through. The training and adaptability mindset reflects the parkour ethos -- find your own way past whatever obstacle you face.

prasad sai If she takes the right precautions that doctors and nurses usually take while in hospitals working with people then she should be just fine. Before doctors and nurses get to work they get tested I think once a week and get their temperatures taken, that’s how it is at my hospital at least.
@randomvids36864 жыл бұрын
@@nicoleskorupsky1007 but still a risk. Medical professionals had lots of training, still lot of people who work in hospital are getting infected. Michelle was not a trained professional, so I advice her to stay away from hospital.

Fried Panda I don’t think they do either but neither does the military and she did the boot camp. Neither does fire fighters yet she did fire academy. Neither do police and she did police academy. She also kinda trained like an astronaut lol She’s done a lot of things where people don’t mess around and they still showed her something of what they go through and what they teach their trainees. Maybe not the full extent of what they teach them but they do a “cater to the media” thing so that it brings light to the job in a way.

I'm only 5 minutes in and damn you can already see how much she improved, not physically (I feel like from everything she did, she is a beast already when it comes to fitness), but mentally, bc in older challenges I feel like she didn't believe in herself as much and now she just takes the challenge head on without questioning and thinking she can't do that - thats awesome to see, I feel like she's gonna go even further from now on if her mindset keeps growing the way her abilities do!🔥🔥🔥

"What is the dual camera?" "Uuu let me tell you!" I mean, no one minds these videos being commercials, but it starts to get pretty cringy when the company provides a script written by a toddler and forces it unnaturally to highlight features. Why not just separately showcase it and let the video be, how are big company marketing reps so incompetent...
