“i feel like i have runner’s lung failure” LITERALLY!! at this point i feel like everyone is lying about runner’s high bc all i ever feel is the desire to never run again 😭
@oedalis6 ай бұрын
I think runner's high is real, but probably over hyped, at least from my personal experience. Also I think some people get a hefty endorphin rush from exercising and some people ... don't. Like at all. So it's always a grind for them. Pursue the movement and exercise you enjoy most! 🙌🏽

Running is not for everyone. Definitely not for me, I prefer walking / power walking. Running is torture for me (even when I was in shape)

As someone who LOVES running, if I don't run for a week. It will take me about 3 weeks of daily running before it gets back to being fun again. When I'm running consistently it's great and I enjoy it. But anything more than a couples days off before the next run and it's awful again. Your body is happy to be still. Because it doesn't have to work. So when you go from a long time of it being use to being still, it freaks out when you decide to start moving it again. I just finished a 5k this morning. And I'm feeling very alert and happy. I wouldn't say it's a "high," but I think it's a great start to my day.

I've been running since 2018 and before the pandemic I used to live for it and I would get that runners high fast but post pandemic it was soooo hard getting back into running. It still is, but now I have to run 4 miles to feel that high.

Running is honestly SO hard to get into! It sounds easy because all you need is a path and some shoes, but it's a seriously mental thing. You feel like you're not making progress at first. The hardest thing I had to learn was to give myself some grace. Some days I can run 5k without walking, other days it's half a mile. Above all, you've just gotta get out and do it. Best of luck with your journey Susie! ❤❤ Also seriously loved that intro!!
@PatriceVC318 ай бұрын
This is such good advice! I started running in February, and it’s a journey every day. Running has taught me a lot about my mental health, and that if I don’t have a good run today, that doesn’t mean I won’t have a good run tomorrow. The same can be said about anything! Some days it’s hard and feels like shit and some days it’s easier than you think and feels soooo good.
@Alorajones198 ай бұрын
I agree i started running February 2023 and only did it cuz my bf started. He went from not being able to run a mile to running 10miles in 4months. During that time i was still struggling to run 1mile without resting. He told me to just go slow and be consistent. 6months later i was running 5k in 34mins! My progress was a lot slower than his but hes way taller and im quite short.

As someone who genuinely loves running and has just run a marathon my top tips are: 1. Run way slower than you think, it’s more of a jog, and also start off slow even if you feel like sprinting at the beginning, because if you start off too fast you’ll be in pain for the rest of the run. 2. Electrolytes are key, so much more important than you might think. 3. Stretch!!! 4. Watch videos of people running before running, this has worked to motivate me. Wish you the best of luck and also if you don’t really enjoy running after this whole journey there are so many other ways to improve your cardiovascular health, arguably even walking is more beneficial, and you don’t need to run if you don’t fancy it in my opinion, it’s not for everyone xx
@Nanakimdakween8 ай бұрын
Hello do you take electrolytes only before running or also while and after running ?
@victoriaashcraft32548 ай бұрын
I am also someone who genuinely LOVES running! I just finished my first race ever which was actually a half marathon. I had tried running multiple times in the past and it just felt too difficult. I thought I knew how because I used to run track but only short distance. Running long distance is jogging it’s NOT sprinting (at least at the start and where I’m at). These tips that you listed are what’s helped me follow through with running this time around! I would just add to focus on your breathing. Make sure you are breathing through your nose. If you feel like you’re struggling to breathe, slow down! Do box breathing (4x4) to catch your breath. Also, (if you have a watch) check your pace and keep it consistent. If you’re someone who is trying it out, you can totally do it! Just be patient and stay consistent!
@bella_zuk4 ай бұрын
@@Nanakimdakweenif it’s a long run, especially a race, I will take electrolytes in my water bottle along with me (especially in spring or summer), and also I take gels which have electrolytes in them during a long run, but I will always have some after every run (even short ones), since your electrolyte levels have been depleted after sweating and exerting yourself, which makes me feel light headed and muscle crampy. I don’t think it’s that deep just take them when it’s convenient to you and even just adding salt to your water (no I’m not joking) does the trick.
@hnichole8 ай бұрын
As someone who IS a cardio girlie, like I truly hate weightlifting so much but I love HIIT workouts and runs, you're spot on about the pace. Especially as the intervals get longer, you have to pace yourself so you don't burn out right at the beginning! I also like to be super controlled, almost robotic with my breathing, that gives me something to focus on and kind of gives me that feeling of dissociating until the run is over. I find it super fun and it's one of the only things that helps me manage my anxiety disorder.

My biggest tip for those starting out with running is to keep your heart rate at 130-145 BPM (for fat burning) or generally between 130-160 BPM so that you can still talk and you're not about to pass out from lack of oxygen🙃 But this also means that you have to run really slowly and some people walk even faster than you run. I started running again 2 weeks ago and was able to run 5k at this pace on my first run without taking a break. I was doing everything wrong before and couldn't even run 1 kilometer without being completely exhausted. I have the feeling that I could even run 10 kilometers with this method now, because running at this heart rate doesn't exhaust me. I hope I can help someone with this :)
