Did you try to actually sell the phone case? My issue with all these youtubers is no one is putting up personal results.
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
We have an existing Etsy store, where Ashley tried this method before sharing it. The phone cases are one example of a product we found when researching ways to expand. The process of finding, creating variations, and testing is the key to growing a successful business not specifically phone cases. Ashley listed a midjourney design and sold one in the first hour, which was pretty exciting. That gave us the green light to start on this video. Since then the case design library has grown, and it’s bringing in a few hundred dollars a week and growing. As long as the products we pick and add to our library have a strong chance of sales, it snowballs over time. Otherwise it can end up like so many stores with 500 listings and 30 sales. Hope they helps.

This is good, and the best thing about it you can monetize pretty much everything today. I know a lot of people and friends who are using Famester to monetize this exact type of content. Fun fact: Under the new copyright laws in the USA, Midjourney cannot force you to have membership to obtain the rights to an image - ALL IA generated images are now by default considered "public domain" - meaning the free images you generate can absolutely be used to create products for sale. - You should look deeper into this subject and maybe do a video that makes use of this fact.
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
Appreciate that insight. I’m only loosely tracking some of the copyright laws. One level removed I’m curious to see what precedents get established around partial AI IP over the next few years. That could be a can of worms for smaller brands that rely on AI to stay competitive, but then are left with no protection for their livelihood.

There's definitely money in making AI content right now, but as with all waves it will fade. It looks like you're building a channel right now and hopefully you can get it monetized! The key will be to use the knowledge you're gaining from T2S and T2I and look for ways to bring in additional streams. We had over 10 years in the apparel/print industry, so AI was an easy boost to our revenue, and talking about it created an additional stream. You may end up doing that in reverse, by finding a product to sell after you've grown your skills and content related traction. Good luck!

I don't think converting to a smart object allows you to increase the image size without losing quality. It means you can make it smaller then scale it back up to the original size without losing quality.
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
Good point, Ashley combined two ideas here. The smart object is of course just a container that preserves what's inside. If you're resizing, rotating, and moving it around multiple times, the smart object prevents accumulated degradation new users bump into. Once you enlarge it though the PPI still decreases proportionately. Since the phone cases are small, we haven't needed to vectorize it with vector magic or even use something more in depth like the new upscalers in stable diffusion. For T-Shirts, using midjourney as the primary tool is going to require that extra layer of art prep you're talking about.

Idk if this has been said, but if you have a computer with a GTX 1060 or higher with 4-6 gb of vram you can set stable diffusion models built for tiling on your own computer and not pay midjourney. It’s insanely easy and there are free solutions to upscaling available as well.

@@LivinTheGreen On that note, a 1050 should work, but is definitely going to be slow to generate images. If you look at github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui It has instructions for how to install SD and it should grab the default 1.5 model for you during that process. Prepare for a bit of a learning curve to get it running though. It requires installing a few programs like Python and miniconda, but the instructions for how to do it are manageable. The first time through it's easy for your eyes to gloss over. The biggest drawback with SD is that it won't look great out of the box with the model it ships with, or even with some of the other models you can find online. Mid journey can take 5 words and make you feel like an expert artist, Stable diffusion requires a lot of hand holding and specificity to get it right. On a 1050 it will take you a long time waiting for each image and you may lose steam before you can get a grip on prompt crafting.

Yeah guys phone cases are literally worthless as a business. Imagine this, how many phone cases you buy, and then how long does it last? Your clients won't buy from you at least 4-5 months apart. And probably won't buy more than 1 product.
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have an idea in mind for a specific type of customer. With phone cases, it’s true that you aren’t cultivating a relationship built on repeat sales. The same goes for memorial shirts, weddings (hopefully), or the graduation niche. With platforms like Etsy, you can capture a type of customer who is on a purchase path based on similar interests and optimize for that route rather than chase non applicable KPMs like lifetime customer value. $7,000+ a month shows that there is untapped potential there. Good luck!

One issue I see with the youtube videos is that they do not really help people understand the ACTUAL net profit some of these shops make on a monthly basis. Also, we should take into consideration that some shops have been growing for 10+ years, so it is expected that they reach a point in which they can generate 10k - 30k in revenue, which probably translates to around 2k or less after subbing all the costs from all the different platforms + taxes + ads
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
You're right, and the short answer is that there is no short answer. For shops that grew the hard way, we're pretty fortunate to have tools as powerful as Alura. For us to get insights into another store's revenue is amazing, for two reasons. It eliminates the guess work from finding a marketable product, and helps us estimate the demand. What it doesn't tell us is how much profit there is in that specific niche, but that's not the point. For years we had to guess at the product, guess at the target market, and hope to find a winner. Now we can at least see where dollars are getting spent, so from there we can work backwards using our own resources and capabilities to see what our margins are. I, this is Richard by the way, am working on a video that breaks down all of the methods in terms of where the costs/tradeoffs are. For instance if I buy phone cases in bulk to get the blank cost down, have a UV printer, and ship my own product, my per item cost may be low, but the overall investment and time required may prevent me from researching the market and producing more designs leading to an overall drop in both profit AND revenue. My video will focus on pointing out the time and dollar cost, in order to help people be strategic and maximize their results.
@alcyonemusic
@alcyonemusic Жыл бұрын
True - its also a bad strategy to base a business model on outlier statistics / unicorns. Cherry picking one shop that blew it up can be used to gain valuable insight but doesnt take into consideration that there might also have been 100 other shops in the same niche that didn't.

It's a great concept. Unfortunately, you have to charge double the average market price to be able to make profit, due to using these print on demand services. If you just create trending designs, like everyone else, you don't stand out and, due to charging expensive prices, you are breezed over by the customer. I would say you would literally have to reinvent the wheel to stand out by creating designs that don't exist and amaze the customer to an extent that they don't care what price they pay.

You just can't use them for commercial purposes, including selling the images or using them on other products for sale (Print-on-demand, or otherwise). As she stated, if you want to SELL the images, you need a paid subscription to receive the commercial rights to sell the images created by MidJourney. Keep in mind, unless you have a Pro subscription and use Stealth Mode, all your generated images can be seen and used by the public.

Let us know if you give it a try! #1 - Stockphotos.com AI Image Enhancer: High-Tech & User-Friendly. #2 - Gigapixel AI by Topaz Labs: Ideal for Higher Image Resolution Batch Upscaling. #3 - Luminar Neo Upscale AI. #4 - AVC Labs Photo Enhancer AI. #5 - Icons8: Smart Upscaler: Free & Straightforward.

I do this, I have a redbubble store, but I use all products. Maybe I should focus only on some precise products (like phones cases like here), because I didn't sell anything this far.

You have the most time consuming part done if you already have your artwork! Next step would be to decide if you want to bring blanks in and fulfill your own orders or if you want to utilize print on demand through a company. Both have pros and cons. Thank you for watching the video and hopefully our next one will solve more of the “how”.

I think I misunderstood the smart object thing in Photoshop. I'm a long user of Photoshop for photography photo retouching and digital art. I've not know Smart Objects to allow a rasterized image be scaled up without losing quality??? Was there an error in your video or a step missed such as upscaling your rasterized image or converting the image to a vector image using either illustrator or an online vector converter? Thanks
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын

@@brandsandempires thank you for your reply. Splitting hairs here, in the video, the photoshop canvas size was set to 11.17 inches each side, which works out for good details for printing at around 3300 pixels by 3300 pixels. MidJourney's upscaled image definitely does not export at this size. Anyway, overall, great video, thank you. I think the info given at around 5:30 onwards about sizes etc... is a little muddy. Being proficient in technology allowed me to catch this while watching the video. I'm sure all your other viewers are much more proficient than myself and can work out the solution themselves. Thanks again for the video. Subbed.

@Brands & Empiers Thank you. Are your designs kept safe and confidential from stealing by other sellers on Printify if upload it there? Also, are your designs viewable to other sellers on Printify?
@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
This is a great question! Printify is a grouping of print of demand companies whereas Printify is a company that does their own printing. When using Printify, the company you choose to fulfill your orders does not take your artwork or ideas. Wholesale Ted here on YT has great videos on this! Thank you for watching and hopefully we can help more in our next video!

@brandsandempires
@brandsandempires Жыл бұрын
It's interesting how that works. Our print shop started in the wake of the 2008 recession, and while large orders were harder to get, individual buyers were easy. It's a small bite sized luxury that people can afford when the paycheck comes in. They're tired of struggling for two weeks with no money after the bills, and feel they deserve it. They can't blow hundreds, but they can grab a new shirt, or a phone case, etc.
