I was thinking about game design with respect to speedrunning, and I find it very interesting how fundamentally different a route becomes if it is nonstop. Particularly if you are playing non-100% categories, objectives you might normally skip become viable as you can acquire them with less time loss than skipping them and completing a later objective. SM64 further complicates the routing because some levels have initial states necessary to complete some stars, so instead of re-loading the level it might make more sense to just move on In 100% categories it changes the route for sure, but not as fundamentally in a game like SM64. Routing inside the level is where the depth comes from, but on a macro scale you still have to go to each stage anyways.

I wanna start by giving you credit where credit is due. Later on in the video, you went on to say in what ways Liam is better than you, and agree or disagree, I have to commend you for complimenting your fellow runners. That being said, if Liam doesn't like you, it's probably because of what you mentioned earlier on in the video about being arrogant. I think it's good to be proud of yourself when you win, but winning with grace is MUCH better than simply (no pun intended) winning. When you we're saying "I don't know what to do" it felt real, it felt vulnerable, it felt good to watch. The moment that you said "I'm the GOAT" however, I immediately rolled my eyes and my brain started critiquing how lucky the rng was, how many mistakes were made, and I think that, that happens in alot of our minds. I'm a pretty arrogant person so trust me, I understand how enticing it is to want to sing your praises on the hilltops, but trust me, if you don't do it, people will do it for you.

@cheese speedrunning Overanalysis is my thing babe lol but it seems like alot of people don't understand this speedrunning banter, since you mentioned that people were saying you were being too arrogant. When we watch movies, we typically root for the humble person, and the villain tends to be arrogant. I think it's for the same reason that it's sometimes preferred when we see the hero kick the shit out of the villain and COULD kill him (Goku vs. Vegeta) but instead lets him go. It's like "I COULD absolutely decimate you right now, but I won't" in the same way that when you get a wr, you definitely COULD decimate the other runners, but it's more honorable to not do so. Weird thing is, it isn't the same in the moment that someone gets a goal for example. Like, people expect you to do some cocky celebration. Maybe it has to do with the adrenaline and testosterone involved in physical sports? Idk
