basketball community got brainfucked after years of having this trash ass system where one team wins the single only trophy that's available throughout all the year. like in soccer, let's take italy for example, you can have a team win the -national league (serie a) -another team winning the national cup (coppa italia) -other teams winning some of the 3 international trophies in europe, and depending of which one you win you even play the european supercup and the team world cup -plus suppercoppa italianna if you won a national title. point is, you can have different teams winning different things throughout the whole year, in the end of the year you can have two big rivals winning just as much as the other one and stacking just as much, unlike the nba where one team wins the ONLY TOURNAMENT they play (i can't stress enough how stupid this is) and then you end up resorting to this dogshit narrative talk and start looking for other things to talk about like individual awards, individual scores, and etc. like some teams are praised for getting to the second round, you are getting praised for just losing in the "semi-finals" instead of losing earlier. TL;DR nba = 1 trophy per year so you care more about individual stats, personal achievements and narrative talk because you have nothing else to talk about soccer (example) = more trophies so less individual talks and more team talks, still have narratives tho (specially with the best players) but in the end winning multiple trophies matters way more

I can tell you now Rajon Rondo was a good pure point guard that has two rings. He ain’t better all time than CP3 who has none. In a game of 5 on 5 where everyone has an opportunity to influence the outcome of the game, we look to stars to step up and show what they are made of. No teams are short changed due to not getting a championship. Stockton and Malone is still a remembered duo, Vince Carter is remembered. T Mac is remembered. These guys are etched into basketball history and didn’t need a ring to do it. Rings are more a way to split hairs on who had more success in their career due to their impact. A top 10 consists of winners in history that was also heavily involved in bringing their team to the mountain tops. Adding tournaments wouldn’t change anything, as we see that the in season tournament happened yet people looked at it as a consolation prize.

People love to assume that tall + shooting = unguidable, and the rest of the details are just teammate problems. Same reason T Mac is gassed up more than he should be. He’s a 1B/ 2 on a championship team. He’s the best one you can have but he’s not THE guy. There’s 5-10 guys that have been rotating in that role for the last 5-10 years but KD never entered it. I can get with agreeing he loses, however… who still plays at that level after an Achilles injury, let alone “shift the defense enough and get down hill in year 17!”. KD is top 5 whether we like it or not. Every team after Golden State was broken figuratively and injured literally. This Suns team had too much ego and no chemistry. U wasn’t right about KD. KD hit his avgs at his normal efficiency, the problem was Booker and Beal and Allen getting hurt. It’s a team game and to win a chip EVERYONE has to do their job. Even the best players in the league HAVE to have other players on the team do their job. KD wasn’t the reason the Suns lost. So if someone thinks he’s top 5, I’m not trippin. In the right system, he will look top 5, no different than a Steph. But anyone in your top 5 won’t have any playoff success if the others don’t step up and do their job too. Look at Philly with Embiid. A top 5 player who can’t even get past the second round

Ain’t gone lie this is an L take. Wym he doesn’t shift the defense you need 5 people around him when he has the ball. Go see that series against Celtic, they were literally all over him, and it’s hard to get assist on teams were there are simply no ball movement. It’s not his fault. Teams like Nugget and Celtic and all those teams and the Heat have so much ball movement. And you can’t tell me KD hasn’t been providing like good defense the past 3 years and stuff averaging like 1.5 a game in that time period do matter.
