perfect pitch (or at least a REALLY high level of relative pitch) is kind of required tho

@joobin81410 ай бұрын
@@orrfrank2568 Relative pitch is essentially the application of memory. That's why musicians that train in it can play by ear, even if they aren't gifted with perfect pitch. They memorized the relative differences in pitch between notes through repeated exposure.

3 minutes in and I already love this video!! One thing I’ve always thought would be so cool is to hear classical violinists react to or play bluegrass and country music! Especially the song Devil Went Down to Georgia. Bluegrass and country just seem like such different genres from classical I think it’d be so entertaining for traditional violinists to step into that world
@ahumanmerelybeing11 ай бұрын
I go to a lot of bluegrass jams, and we frequently get classically trained violinists who want to dip their toe into bluegrass. I'd say the majority struggle with the transition; it's partly a style thing and partly that classically trained musicians are used to following a conductor and playing exactly what's written on a page, and switching over to bluegrass, where there may or may not be written music and you're often just listening to the people around you and making stuff up as you go, really throws them for a loop. 😂

Black Angels is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I first heart it in college when my composition professor recommended I listen to it. It completely blew my mind. I had no idea instruments could do all these crazy things. I finally got to see it live last year and it was incredible. I was a bit overwhelmed emotionally. Your rendition of it was pretty good. You certainly captured the spirit, though it wasn't quite as terrifying as that section should be. Crumb cheats by having the instruments all amplified, so the super-crunch parts are easier to perform the way he wants them (there's actually notated pitches for it). The score, like all of his scores, is a beautiful work of art. It's worth checking out just to see how he wrote it.

Pleasantly surprised to hear *Rather Be* , it’s a great song that I only just discovered this year. Came for *Bink’s Sake* and was also pleasantly surprised - at your dip into imagination land. 😂 To be fair you listened to a slow version, the one that stuck with me was the more upbeat cover played for partying; it has a faster tempo and is more obviously a “jig” I think.
