This video gave me nostalgia for when I used to work at Lush and did demonstrations for the customers. I was told each bath bomb cost about 50 pence to make and we were selling them for about £5-8 depending on the type of bath bomb. To be fair they did give us £10 an hour which was roughly 15% more than minimum wage; so the profits were going into paying staff decently and for high quality ingredients. This was 5 years ago so everything has gone up. Bath bombs can easily be £10+ and I'm not paying that for a single use item

That’s very interesting! Did you have a favourite bath bomb or soap? I heard that Outback Mate is super popular and I might want to recreate that one. I agree, $9 CAD is very expensive for a bath bomb… I wouldn’t want to drain the tub! Especially since people report they’re so hit or miss - I’ve heard some of them are even duds and barely fizz at all.

@@SoapUniverse working for Lush, you had to memorise every single product in the shop and know at least 2 ingredients that made each product unique so I had to memorise about 1000+ pieces of information. So I can confidently say that the best product in the entire shop was the dry shampoo. It was the only product that was cheaper than the supermarket versions, it was a powder so it was better for asthmatics who can be triggered by aerosol sprays, and mine lasted for literally like 5 years. In terms of the bath and soap category... My favourite was the comforter bubble bar. I liked the scent profile and I love bubble bath more than bath bombs
@SoapUniverse
@SoapUniverse 3 ай бұрын
@@hadassahm3016 that sounds like a huge pain! But it makes sense because Lush is really trying to push unique ingredients to consumers… maybe to justify the high price? 🤔 Hmm, maybe I can try making a bubble bath powder!

Hah it’s something I picked up from baking! Bakers like to compare all other ingredients to flour in their formulas, so flour becomes 100% and every other ingredient is relative.

Great job! Bath bombs seem really hard to nail, and these turned out fabulous! I also really enjoy the catharsis of the very aggressive level of fizz 🤣
@SoapUniverse
@SoapUniverse 4 ай бұрын
Thank you! I might have taken the fizz a little too far 😂 Bath bombs are definitely finicky. One day a recipe will work, and the next day it fails you. I think I’ve made enough bath bombs to know how to tame them a bit, though!

Legit the first bath bomb video I've seen where there is color pay off in the foam that isn't just "That's kind of purple I guess"
@SoapUniverse
@SoapUniverse 4 ай бұрын
This is actually something I’m struggling with! When I use “proper” bath bomb dyes, the water will be super saturated but the foam is basically white. What gives?! I used neon colourants which aren’t water soluble, so I imagine the neons make the foam more colourful because the powder is floating… who knows!
@Crow_Smith
@Crow_Smith 4 ай бұрын
@@SoapUniverse Oof I see ... hmmm it's gotta be because of it floating ... tbh idk how colorful lush ones are because I've not really seen many other than those that have the same "mostly white" pay off

I can honestly say I love lush and their products as I am a bath kinda girlie...but their bath bombs are crazy expensive so I don't really get them very often as I just can't justify spending so much money on something that is a one use thing. I would much rather spend my money on the shower gels or shower jelly's lol

We make bath bombs as one of our main products. They are finicky and I spent 6 months formulating my bomb recipe for oklahomas crazy bipolar weather. We have a slow and foamy recipe where our 3 inch 7 ounce rounds last upwards to 30 minutes. If you delve further into bombs and are ever interested in trying viewer recipes I’d totally share ours for you to try!

Wow, that’s a crazy long time! That’ll last a bath for sure. I’d love to try your recipe! Do you use SLSA as the foaming agent? I’ve found in every recipe that contains it, I have to quarter mine - otherwise it ends up being a giant foam ball that doesn’t fizz.
