One flaw I found on this V8 drill is that while drilling with the shaft facing down/upwards, the oil in the engine would go in a way that some bits of the engine would not get any oil. I would suggest installing a dry sump system so that every part of the engine will get the oil regardless of what angle the engine is facing.
@WatchmakerErik11 ай бұрын
Very good point. I'm also curious how the drive shaft of the engine takes thrust loads rather than axial loads. Most car crankshafts are not made to take a load in that direction. I would fit thrust bearings. Overall I'm thinking that a V8 powered flex shaft machine would make more sense. Then again if it's about making sense...

I’m a mechanic and every engine I ever saw has the oil pick up on the front end where the harmonic balancer is. Front end of the oil pan. So that’s not technically true. If you lean the drill forward there’s possibly enough oil to still be getting pumped since the oil pick up is probably up front.

With thatt spare V8 motor collecting dust in your garage for too long, you now have finally restored balance in your part of the universe. You really did an awesome DIY job, by a real V8 gasification of your old rechargeable drill! I would lole to build one of these gadgets myself, If i only had one of those sweet small gasoline motors available to me... (Someone out there wanting to hook me up with one of those?)

These miniature engines cost thousands of dollars for some reason. Maybe you can fashion one out of a chainsaw motor instead, comes with a centrifugal clutch already, you'd theoretically only need 90 degree gears on the output, or just drill with the motor sideways!
