DSM, Fast, Reliable in the same intro. I about lost my breakfast on that one! DSM=Daily Service Maintenance. This is chock full of memberberries! I had a 1995 Talon TSi AWD back in 2006ish making around 440hp to the tire. Haltech standalone (using DOS!), 25 lbs on a PTE SCM-61, 880cc injectors, 6 bolt swap with 90 big rods, JE pistons .040 over bore, Cyclone intake, comp 272 cams. Tokiko 5 way adjustables, Baer big brake kit riding on some Volk GTC's. Crank walk, boost leaks, popped couplers, fried piston rings, cracked manifolds, always something, but she was my first love. John Shepherd was our DSM hero! Got fed up with the nagging from my ex-wife and sold it...then got rid of her too. Should have got rid of her first.

Crank walk is caused by bad engine building. A tiny percentage of 7 bolt cars crank walk. Very, very few 6 bolts. It's really not a thing. LS engines have just as many thrust bearing issues as 4g6x engines.

Loved the DSM Talon/Eclipse AWD 2.0 Litre turbo cars from the nineties. I use to own a 90 Eagle Talon TSi AWD that was modified from stock. I changed the whole exhaust system from turbo back with a 3 inch stainless steel mandrel Buscher Racing exhaust. Boost controller, upgraded fuel pump, fuel injectors, ACT clutch, upgraded intercooler pipes, blow off valve and so forth. Car stayed stock appearance wise, except if you saw the exhaust system from the back of the car. Loved the power it made to all 4 wheels when accelerating. Surprisingly, I did get great fuel economy close to stock when driving it normally. I did get 389,000 kilometres on the original engine and turbo. Miss that car.

When working with brakes if you want to stop the fluid from leaking out, use a brake pedal depressor to hold the brake pedal down and the brake fluid will not constantly leak out. You’ll of course get some fluid initially leaking, but it’ll stop. I used to do it all the time when messing with the brake system on various types of vehicles.

@@Dwigt_Rortugal I meant when swapping brake hoses, calipers or anything like that where there the brake fluid is going to constantly leak out, you can stop most of that from happening by depressing the brake pedal while working on the system. While bleeding the vacuum bleeder does work well, but I’ve found a good pressure bleeder works better.

I've always wanted one of these. My buddy had a 12 second talon back in the day that sounded like boat at idle. He had to launch in second gear because in first gear it would just spin all four tires and he almost side stepped into a mustang he was racing from a launch. They pull so nice. I saw another guy roll onto the highway once in 2nd and it bounced on all four corners, squatted and then blasted off. Good memories of the 90s glory days of street racing.

Alex, as an engineering QA/QC person, I know from many years experience, thread failures, and tests, that ALL threads should be very clean and lightly lubricated - i.e. enough to remove dry friction from the thread surface. The torque you apply to a stud or bolt is intended to extend the stud/bolt within it's elastic limit, and apply longitudinal pressure to the mating surfaces. If the threads are dry, or even lightly contaminated with corrosion or dust etc., it will affect the accuracy of the torque you apply. Another issue with dry/dirty/corroded threads is the creation of micro-stress cracking over time. Both issues can cause either under-tightening or rupture of the thread. The reason that this is not a very frequent failure issue, is because the threads, bolts and studs are typically over-designed to account for poor use (mainly over-tightening of corroded wheel bolt/stud threads). But there are limits. Better safe than sorry.
@glynnepritchard2526
@glynnepritchard2526 22 күн бұрын
As an Engineer you do not lube to any extent bolts or studs that are on moving parts, especially wheel studs, they can work loose.
@terryross1754
@terryross1754 22 күн бұрын
@@glynnepritchard2526 If threads can work loose they are either not correctly torqued, or in need of a locking mechanism. I am not suggesting the use of special low-friction lubricants, just a few drops of light machine oil. Whenever I visit a tyre shop, I see many cases of bone-dry & corroded nuts/bolts & studs on cars/vans, being removed/refitted using unregulated airguns. And if they use a torque wrench they sometimes go way past the 'stop' indicator. It works until it fails.

@@glynnepritchard2526 Nothing personal, but I have come across enough errors - material/assembly failures, leaks, highly detailed connector analyses, in-depth RCA's, plus too many non-validated designs - to rely more on 5 decades of my own international experience in a wide variety of engineering companies and applications. Manufacturing QA/QC personnel are indeed normally in a 'captured' situation (e.g. Boeing ?), but not all QA/QC activity is limited by directives from engineering.

30:00 having done a BBK similar to this. The holes in the rotors are larger than the studs so there is a gap & play, meaning the rotor will slam into the stud, then start braking. I'd suggest finding a small enough diameter metal tube that fits over the new stud & between the rotor then cutting them to fit the gap. For the kit I did 1320 Performance actually sold a "limited" run of stainless-steel inserts.

An Eclipse was a cool car when I was in high school. Probably a similar timeline for Alex. I had a friend who was starting out flipping cars, and he bought an Eclipse that had been in an accident. The damage was minor enough that he bought a body kit for it and it pretty much covered up the damage. It was from the Pimp My Ride era, as it had a second battery in the trunk and a place where a PlayStation had been. Anyway, Mike sold it and made a decent profit.

Being a kid during the original Fast and Furious, the Eclipse was always one of my favorite cars growing up. Cool to see a build on one in 2024. A very underrated car in my opinion!

Keep the front calipers the way they are. They look awesome and I love your channel. So informative that a lot of other guys either do not have the comprehensive knowledge or don't take the time to explain some things. Keep up the great work

The car is looking incredible! Amazing work!! I was worried about the fuel filter on my 2G when I went to e85, so I replaced it with a radium filter with the stainless 10 micron filter element. There's also the fuel siphon line that runs to the driver's side fuel sender that you can replace with gates barricade fuel line. I think that stuff is e85 safe. I may have missed it if you already did that though! Thank you for the great content!
