Mix flour with water and butter and you will thank my grandmother for the recipe. Everyone can easily make this bread recipe. This soft flatbread is perfect for breakfast as a wrap for any filling, sweet or savory! This recipe won't take long as we use yeast-free dough and don't need an oven! We no longer buy white bread in the store, it's easier and faster to make our own.
Bread recipe and ingredients:
300 milliliters warm water (1 1/2 cups)
410 grams flour (3 1/3 cups) + 1 tablespoon for kneading
1 teaspoon sugar (5 grams)
Melt 160 grams of butter
I use a 200 milliliters cup.

For those who want to try flat "breads" without wanting to use yeast or baking, check out recipes for "Parotta, Paratha, Chapathi, Phulka, Kulcha, Naan, Roti, Romali roti, Puri". These are all made with Maida(all purpose flour) or wheat flour. They don't go hard like tortillas because they don't have corn flour. They are all similar, but different taste and texture. They are easy to make at home since almost all households in Asian countries has them as part of their staple diet. At our home, we make parottas in Maida and other items in the list in wheat flour. You can make the flour more healthy by adding oats 15%, Wheat 80%, millets(Ragi) 3-4% and psyllium husk 1-2%. In this way you can avoid being constipated from this.

@@makokha75 Yes man, Maruti is the name for father of Lord Hanumaan ( incarnation of Lord Shiva ). He is very powerful ( you can think of all marvel comic superheroes altogether still they cannot match his powers ). He has a very special place in India and Indian History Ramayan. Great recipe! Thank you so much! This is almost like making danish pastry, only not so much butter and rolling and rerolling. I worked as a baker about 30 years ago, but I've kept up with my cooking skills both at home and professionally and it's taken me all over the country, learning from new cooks and chefs...but I've never seen this type of bread done this way, it's almost as easy as pancakes or bannock and even more versatile. Thanks again from Seattle!

This bread actually has many different names: roti in Trinidad, msemen in Morocco, Malawach in Yemen, Paratha in India, Prata in South East Asia, and I believe Turkey has something like this too. In Taiwan they add green onions before they roll it out, for a green onion pancake.

Several Times i tried making bread but failed. I also once tried another recipe like ur way but they put too much butter so i don't think it's healthy and i don't like the taste bcos just too oily. Urs doesnt use much butter so hopefully i can b successful making it and the judges a.k.a my kids would want to eat it sincerely. My kids are nice judges, when they don't like the food i cook, they still say it's good but i know it's not that good when they don't want to eat it some more🤣🤣🤣. So thank you for this recipe.

For those discussing the origins of this bread, I recommend the book Flatbreads and Flavors by Naomi Duguid and Jeffery Alford. It's a beautiful book from the 90s. The couple are writers and photographers and document their travels all over learning wonderful recipes and stories. It's a romantic history of origins and commonalities between different flatbreads.

I made these today and served them with roasted potato, aubergine and red pepper slices, boiled egg, amba sauce, home made harissa sauce and chopped salad and they were perfect ☺️ My son tasted the first one and told me it tasted like a matzo. It did...crunchy as a cracker: but for some reason the rest were fluffy and delicious. It's like pancakes I guess: the first is just to get the pan ready. Years ago now, I had a Pakistani friend, whose grandmother cooked these on a regular basis, but with a wholemeal flour I think. Thank you thank you thank you! Now I can replicate a little the happy evenings spent around my childhood friend's table ☺️

Oh Waoh! Watching from California, I have East African heritage of making Chapatis (flat bread) as an acquired skill from childhood making them by eyeballing to kneed to soft dough without measurements and I like that you have measurements coz I can share your recipe with my daughter and others who are curious and didn’t know how to explain it. I will also give yours a trial. Thank you for sharing

Had this for the first time while living in the UAE. They call it a paratha. Not sure where it originated from but most Indian restaurants in UAE have them. They are delicious! 😍

In Trinidad and Tobago we call it paratha too. We have a heavy influence of east Indians in our culture although our process is a bit different.

Depending on the quality of the flour, you need about 510-530 grams of flour, which is 3-3.5 cups with a volume of 200 milliliters. 😊

sort of a cross between pastry and a flour tortilla. Looks like they would be good for rollups. I'm already thinking of sprinkling cinnamon sugar on it during the roll up folding steps.

Growing up in the South (southeast USA),my mother would make these for breakfast and serve them with syrup or honey. She called them flour-bread pancakes. The first time I had regular "box mix" pancakes they tasted weird. The texture was wrong...spongy not the flaky buttery goodness I was use to.
@FastEasyRecipes

I don't trust "box mix" pancakes. Homemade flatbreads made from regular wheat flour are much tastier.🙂

I clicked thinking maybe you were going to show how to make the bread that my grandmother made and taught me to make. There were many times during my childhood, and also later in life, that knowing her recipe was invaluable. If you have flour, water, and a little oil or lard, you mix the flour and water and then fry it. My grandparents grew up in the south, (USA), and learned the recipe from people that had ancestors who grew up on plantations. They called it, "hoe cake" because they had made the cakes on garden hoes over an open fire. Grandmother made her bread in what she called a large "pone" big enough to fit the entire skillet. It takes a little practice to learn how to flip a pone that big, but it sure tasted wonderful. In fact, she made a gravy of flour, lard and water, also, and many times we had that bread and gravy for breakfast and dinner, and it saw us through. (Edited to add USA).
