I've been in and out for 7 years and pretty much myself and my friends who do it admit its just one of the best "blue collar" sports there are. Like, once you're an adult and working full time you start to realize a lot of sports aren't actually that accessible. IE: what if you want to start playing pickup basketball with some others? Well, you have to find other adults who will sign up and make the team, and actually do the full 6-8 week season. We aren't even talking about practicing or anything. So, as an adult I've found I need hobbies where I'm the driver of improvement, not anyone else, but its nice to have a level of sociability with it. PL just really hits all those marks. - improvement is based on me - I have friends at the gym, some who I've even become friends with outside the gym - the gym itself and training is an escape from just, everything. Laundry, cleaning the apartment, paying my bills, etc.

100% agree you can really make the gym your third place while also being able to participate when you want without waiting on others and that’s been a huge point of retention for me as well.

I'd say it comes down to what enjoyment you get from this. if you don't compete like myself. id rather stay and shape and be strong for as long as I am alive. powerlifting makes youre bones denser with time and that transfers to skeletal integrity into your old age. I do powerlifting because it a spiritual thing for me, im almost in a mediation state and its a good practice to be fully intune and tight each rep you hit for a single, double or triple. it makes you feel accomplished outside of work and keep your head on straight, that transfers into your career as well. good points in the video, nice lifts too btw

I definitely agree on the feeling accomplished point! Retention for me has definitely been driven by fulfillment from training.

Can you give some tips for a 14 yr old who wants to start powerlifting i already do resistence
@LandicalrissianАй бұрын
- Finding a decent coach or program to guide you will set you up for a lot more success than you could likely get on your own. - Hitting sleep and protein should be priority whether you’re in a calorie deficit or surplus. - Creatine probably the only supplement you really need to concern yourself with if you followed the previous recommendations.

I'm surprised how long the sessions are. 3 hours! Why does it take so long?
@marken8166 ай бұрын
Warm-up. After you get to a certain point in strength, your warm-up sets take a long time. I'm not a "real" powerlifter, but I base my training sessions around one compound lift + accessories. Just doing the compound takes me one hour or so. Many powerlifters do two big lifts in a day + accessories. For example years ago I used to bench 70kg for reps. I would take the bar, then 40kg, then 60kg, then 70kg. Now I rep 150. The time needed to get through the warmup is more. The guys repping 70kg next to me have completed their sets before I unrack my repetition weight. Plus of course the rest time between sets is long when you're playing around with hard weights and high percentages of your 1rm.

@@marken816 why cant you do 80kg, 110kg, 130kg, 150kg? Im new to this
@marken8166 ай бұрын
@@GaoyuanFanboy123 more warming up feels better, makes me more hyped up and makes me feel ready and used to the weight. I have tried making that big of a jumps and the weight feels really heavy fast. I do empty bar x5-15 explosvlely, 60kg, 80kg, 100kg, 120kg few reps, 140kg 1 rep and then 150kg reps.
