Porsche makes fun drivers cars! I have a base 718 Cayman manual for the last five years. It’s a great road trip car, I don’t get tired of it nor tempted to sell. I get about 32mpg on long trips. 2nd gear is way too long, but I love the manual experience. The PDK is very good, better than most humans. You can’t really go wrong with any of the Caymans.
@jwardTLS27 күн бұрын
Godspeed. First time viewer, really like your candor and presentation. Nice channel. With a PDK, that Cayman will work as a summer daily. I owned a GT4 with a 6-speed and the gearing is just awful for the street - the GTS 4.0 has the same problem, to the point that the top of 2nd gear with a manual is still over 80 mph even in the GTS. It's just not very usable. I sold my GT4 and got a really nice 997.2 that I am personally much happier with. I also owned my E92 M3 for 7 years and it was an amazing car but eventually you realize an M3 is still just a really nice daily (I replaced my E92 with a G80 M3 6mt as a daily and it is fantastic). If you want a backroads car, more of a pure sporting experience, the mid-engine or rear engine platform is the way to go. Surely you are on the right track with this Cayman. As a PDK, with the extra 7th forward gear, that Cayman GTS is a really nice summer daily and balanced backroads car. For me it just comes down to if you want manual or not. If manual is a requirement for you, then you will find yourself either short shifting a lot on public roads just to shift, or you will have to do very high speeds to get any fun out of the manual. But if PDK works for you, then bang for buck it is really, reaaaally hard to argue with a Cayman.
@williammorris33345 күн бұрын
I wanted an E92 for a long time. Then I started learning about that car and BMW’s in general. Ended up with a 981 Boxster S. It’s far superior in most ways. Porsche builds fantastic engines that are very durable and they are far easier to work on. I went for a blast up the mountain this morning and got 20 mpg for the entire trip. The M3? Would’ve gotten 8mpg. No throttle actuators to replace and no rod bearing issues. It’s much lighter and being mid engined it has better balance, turn in and is just as fast with its lower weight.

Other than that the Porsche gained my trust quick and that makes it more inviting to push my limits and learn. I could never trust the E92 in a traffic light to launch, each launch was different than the other, you just slam the throttle, pray and hope for the best 🤭not the carrera. Also tight cornering, throttle steering and agility goes for Porsche. Also when you drive a supposedly 400hp carrera s after a 414 hp M3 you know that numbers don’t tell the full story. Its slower, but sounds better (indisputably so, and quite significantly better than the GTS 4.0), looks better (arguably), and other than the TERRIBLE center console that you should change out ASAP, the interior is better quality.

I drove a Cayman S PDK and I’m just not impressed with the PDK as it’s just not engaging. The pedal shifters fell cheap and are small( as they did in my other Porsches). My Maserati fells better, sounds better. I think the best Porsche is a manual Porsche. Prices for the 718s will continue to be high because we as a car community just want the brand, and 911s are way overpriced Miles, that E92 is special. This specific PDK Porsche ain’t the one to leave the e92 for as you will want to trade it in a year when the newness wears off.

Picked up a 2017 Cayman S track tuned to nearly 500hp and 500trq

The Cayman is the real king of the Porsche line up. Imagine giving the Cayman a 911 transmission. 😂

Nice review but i think you are still missing one car that might ACTUALLY change your opinion! That is audi TT RS! please check it out and its rival pretty much is gt4 cayman while audi cost 2/3 of the msrp of gt4.

All weather , YES, staight line, YES. Cornering, NO. I have a 718 GT4 now and had a previous gen. TTRS with MSS springs (to try to dial out as much understeer as possible), and the amount of front-end grip isn't even close to the mid-engine Cayman. The Cayman has so much more front-end authority and does not wash out under throttle as the TTRS does. The TTRS is the answer if you live in the NW or NE. If you are in CA or TX or the likes, you will be much happier in a Cayman.

It only makes sense to go up to the next level. What is the next level from an M3? A Porsche...
