People are quick to forget. Not even a hundred years ago in this country, this kid would have the skills to farm, more or less by himself. He would already know how to raise, treat, and sell cattle or produce, would know how to operate heavy farm equipment. Or, work in a lumber mill, where they had kids working full size steam saws and other equipment. Kids are far more capable than we give them credit for, and, this kid is going to grow up well balanced, and very self reliant because of this. When we talk about not coddling our youth anymore, THIS is what we mean. Teach them to use tools, to build, and create. We dont mean start screaming at them like an employee on a job site that just wrecked a 2 million dollar machine. Let kids get out there again, let them work, use tools, learn trades.

Just turned 42 a couple of days ago and I'm a machinist. I was lucky I had people to teach me how to do things... plumbing, electrical, construction, mechanic work, welding, gardening, etc. More importantly, they taught me how to *think* about a problem and reason it out to find a solution. I'm trying to do the same with my son. That kid is learning a lot more than just how to weld/fabricate or spin wrenches. His father is doing exactly what he should be, and the kid has a leg up on a lot of life's problems if he applies the lessons. Thank you for standing up for the little guy Adam! I believe he built it, and he did an incredible job! I’m a mechanic, and my youngest son wanted me to teach him the trade; so I did just that. He was a natural and at the age of ten he was repairing mowers, tillers, mini bikes, go carts etc..around our neighborhood. I have a welding degree, and he wanted to learn that as well, so I took the time to teach him. Before long he was helping me with cars, welding and fabrication. Today he’s thirty five years old, and works in a chemical plant; and guess what he’s doing there, he’s repairing machinery I have never heard of; and welding and fabrication in their shop, making more money than I could ever fathom making per year. I don’t know the young man in your video, but I loved seeing him on his bike, and what he did with his own two hands, and it takes brains as well. It brought back some good memories for me. If Mozart could write a symphony at five; who’s to say a ten year old couldn’t build his own chopper?! I hope the little guy never stops building! No matter what anyone says or think’s little brother; build anyway! I tip my hat to ya, a job well done, and to be proud of for sure!

sounds like some serious envy. Guaranteed he was present for the whole build. He helped plan it, weld it and paint it.Even pros don't do all the work themselves. Kudos to this awsome kid and a dad that shares his tools and knowledge

As someone who has built a bike, I would just like to say to that young man much respect and it's your build, doesn't matter what the rest of the world says. There's a lot of good people that'll help you along the way when you're passionate about something. Also, one of the good people that watched me struggle through my build and taught me so much built his first chopper at this young man's age.

As a son, brother and father, I know that quality time and guidance with a child teaching them skills to accomplish things they dream of can only lead to great success. Props to pops👍😎

That young man is a better person at his young age than any of those keyboard warriors. May he continue building, learning and improving. All the best from Ireland.

It makes my heart well up with pride when I see fine young men like this actually doing something constructive with his hands and not just playing games. Men have been creating and making things since the dawn of time and I’m so happy to see that it is in fact continuing! I wonder sometimes as I watch what the kids think makes them a man these days! And applause to his father for raising a real man and to you Adam for telling this story! 👏🏻

@@freedomseeding yeah, it’s just that gaming is addictive and not everyone can handle it. It’s like smoking weed, or too much sex, or gambling etc. Gaming is just one more way and one more thing kids do now to keep them locked up in their rooms all day, not talking or interacting with the real world around them. It is problematic and does cause anti social behavior as well. I’m so glad that you have it together however and can game, plus still lead a normal life. I’ve got younger cousins in my family and gaming has ruined their personalities, and their relationship with their parents.

Good on you for sticking up for this kid! He built something he should be very proud of! If only the people attacking him had something in their lives to be proud of, maybe they would be less horrible.

Hats off to Dad. 10 yrs old. Impressive. My nephew, he was taller then most kids his age. His Dad started teaching him to drive the John Deere at 4. At 8 he had his own John Deere and yes he knows the mechanic side. Can't just own a tractor if you don't know how to maintain your equipment. No dead beat Dad's. Good Job

Well that's pretty normal in the Farming world. I know a few men who started driving tractors and semi trucks before they were teenagers. Yes, and their dad bought them a John Deere too. They never paid for any vehicle their self until they graduated. Must have been nice

As a father I understand this whole heartedly. I'm a tattooer and I've been teaching my 11 year old. But for her age she is learning quickly. I totally understand why the dad taught his son how to work on bikes. He set his son up for life. You give a man a fish you feed him for the day. You teach the man how to fish then he can feed himself for the rest of his life. Great video and hats off too the dad

Thanks for posting this. It is rare these days to find a kid that wants to make things. The fact that he just tried to build this is commendable. I am sure he did ask his dad for help and advice throughout the build, but who cares. I am almost 50 years old, and sometimes I have to ask people for help too. The most important thing on this video is that this kid and his dad have the memory of the build and a friend that thought they were cool and posted an awsome video of them and then defend that video. You rock

Thank you for being a ‘Stubborn American’ and supporting youth. My advice to this young man (and it is only advice from an old tradesperson) is to get dad to buy him a set of TIG gloves. Safety first! Other than that, keep up the good work young man and you will be picking your employer when you get that old. (Not the other way around)

Met you in Midland, Texas this summer. You’re very genuine with your support of what’s right and wrong. What I got from this video is awesome. The fact that a father spends quality time with his children is enormous and encouraging. I grew up without a father in my life and it was miserable. I’m pushing 70 and I can assure you this proud young boy is going to grow up being an asset to all those around him because he had a father that shared quality time with him. Adam, you sharing this only adds to what is right. God bless you for all the positivity you show the world. I’m proud of how you stand up for what is right and wrong and calling them out. That’s what makes you stand out among the great fathers of the world. You are among all that is right in the world.

That's so rad! Pretty cool project for some father and son time. Dad gets to pass on his knowledge and his son learns some amazing lessons. No negatives there at all. And the smile on his face as he started it up is really the payoff. Can't put a price on that. Keep on keepin on! 👍

At 10 years old i was changing oil, redoing entire break systems, fixing small electrical issues(with help from my cousin), i was even doing some plumbing. my cousin taught me so much. people just don’t understand if you teach a kid something they will use it and make great things and use those skills for the rest of their life i am 36 now and use these skills he taught me almost daily this kid has a bright future in a world full of people who can’t do anything on their own.

Well done Adam! Apparently those guys didn’t have a father that taught them anything at a young age. I have friends who have dads that have fabrication shops and mechanic shops. Those guys that hung out there after school picked up the skills and became proficient welders and mechanics by the time they were 14 or 15. Much better to be learning those skills vs sitting behind a gaming console. Kudos to that young lad for the skills he is building.
