Eddy. You should have a brain MRI and consult a neuro surgeon before you fly as a blood clot on the brain is very serious if thats what it is. My wife and her father are medical professionals and say you may have suffered an anuerysm which should be treated ASAP. Same for a brain tumour wether erosive, malignant or not. Why are you alone.why is no one with you. Who will take you to the airport. We recommend you hire an ambulance to take you to the airport if you want to leave ASAP. But if you are fully insured best to get the treatment and care here in Bangkok. We are ready to assist in any way we can but we urge you to have an MRI and diagnostics before you fly. May God bless you and heal you.

Dear Eddy, Thank God you got the scan. Your decision to return to England is wise. May I suggest the following since I have 10 years plus caring for a wife who has Multiple Sclerosis and has no use in her legs and is wheel chair bound. : 1. Inform the airlines and airport if necessary that you will need wheel chair assistance from the taxi to the gate and loading into the plane. ( They have those very narrow wheel chairs to assist moving down the airplane isle. 2. If you have time, locate what are called "overnight" adult diapers which can keep you and your seat dry for 8 to 12 hours. Any adult large or extra large will help you be more comfortable if you cannot find the "overnight" style. 3. Obviously, you need a non stop flight to England if you can find one.... which will be expensive but worth not trying to transfer airplanes. 4. You will need a 4 legged walker to support you now and between wheelchairs, i forget the British term for these devices. 5. You might try a very high protein meal before your flight, just as the Spy Plane SR 71 Black bird, U2 pilots do. The crew feed the pilots a big meal of steak and eggs, just before their flight, to cover a very long flight, like 12 hrs, with no, how do you say, No Loo ;) So no bowel movement. 6. No caffeine.... no coffee, tea, coke etc within 8 hours of the flight to minimize urine production. Better yet, you need to switch to decaffeinated coffee right now. Good Luck and God Bless Mate, Scotty in Idaho

You must accept the fact you have had a minor but quite serious stroke which has impaired your sense of balance, the function of your arm and leg and caused the red mass on your brain which might be a clot. It would therefore be safer and more sensible to have treatment here rather than risk flying home now and going on a months long waiting list in the UK. we can pick you up in Pattaya if you choose to stay and have you well looked after at the WORLD MEDICAL CENTRE here in Nonthaburi with daily visits from me and my Thai wife who is also a medical nurse. I think it is weird that so many people are trying to diagnose Eddy from afar. Based on what he said, He presented to the hospital with stroke like symptoms but did not get a scan. Second trip to hospital he gets a scan and doctor told him based on the scan it is not a stroke. Presumably, this rules out bleed. He said it is a "mass" and he stated it might be cancer. He stated that doctor said he is fit to fly. Cancer can create stroke like symptoms. As he said, this is not short term. Since he is likely facing surgery and more, he is clearly more comfortable going back. I respect his decision. Godspeed Eddy.

From a medical point of view, it is simply out of the question for a patient with cerebral oedema to take a scheduled flight. The air pressure on board is roughly equivalent to the conditions on an Alpine peak. Due to this reduced air pressure compared to ground level, the fluid accumulation in the brain can expand and cause complications. Even if someone wanted to ignore these risks and still fly, it would not be possible. Scheduled airlines only authorise taking seriously ill passengers on board if they have carefully checked the medical records in advance of the flight and found the patient to be fit to fly. In the case of patients with cerebral oedema, the airline's decision will always be negativeFor a patient with cerebral oedema, a medical repatriation flight can only be carried out in an ambulance aircraft. Firstly, a flight doctor takes care of the patient during the flight and will intervene immediately in the event of complications. The modern technical equipment on board the air ambulance enables continuous monitoring of the patient’s health status, just like in an intensive care unit.

Correction. The conditions OUTSIDE the plane are equivalent to an alpine peak. Inside its quite comfortable and cosy. That's because the inside cabin is pressurized to ground level. To the best of my knowledge I'm not aware of any airlines that require you to wear snow gear and carry a tank of air on board the plane. Fact. After a 2 week non incidence period, doctors will generally clear a stroke victim to fly. The incidence of stroke on board is less than 1 in 100000. The worst that can happen is your ears will pop....

He is still paralysed down one side of his body and this is going to take time to repair, maybe months. Because it's not a stroke it should be quicker once they have removed the infection on his brain. For the moment he has to stay in ICU for at least another two nights. The hospital will tomorrow go to immigration for him because his visa expires today, so that's one less worry off his mind. Tomorrow I have to collect his suitcases and check him out of the hotel he has been staying in. I don't think he will be out of the hospital for the near future because they have to remove the infection and then he has to go through rehabilitation. The hospital told me he will recover but maybe not 100% they just don't know yet. I told him once you are better just carry on your retirement plans and head to Cambodia instead of going back to the UK. I had a stroke in the UK with similar results. Can only speak for my experience, but paralysis etc is caused by the parts of the brain controlling the limbs involved having died from oxygen starvation caused by the blockage stopping blood flow to those parts of the brain. What happens is other parts of the brain start to take over. I started with a completely paralysed left arm but now have full, albeit weaker, movement again. Just takes some time and some physio.

@ColinCampbell-di5qj4 ай бұрын
Ok it's only Google but something called encephalitis is a bacterial or viral infection which causes swelling in the brain. It can be life threatening. It can affect movement but also has symptoms unlike anything else Eddie seems to have experienced. But we KNOW a stroke can leave you unable to use an arm as in his case and, as he said, leave you needing to lift your leg leg somehow to get into bed. Not sure how a "proper" head scan would be different from the 10,000 baht scan he had before. Anyway, updates are welcome. But how reliable they'll be is open to question unfortunately.

Eddie, you would be wise to claim for whatever you can from your travel insurance. That is what it is there for. Your next travel insurance premium will not increase because you have claimed on it. And it sounds like you won't be travelling much for a while. So get the best you can NOW.
@BuyOneGetOneFree4 ай бұрын
Eddie will find it almost impossible to buy comprehensive travel insurance in future at any price if he wishes to travel again. The big companies do not want to take the risk when you declare medical history such as recent stroke or brain tumour. Your comment stating his premiums will not increase is very misleading.

IMPORTANT (POSITIVE) UPDATE! - Just spoke to Nick Dean who said Eddy will get the treatment he needs in Pattaya and it's not as serious as Eddy makes out here - apparently it may not even be a tumour as previously feared but rather just an infection that can disappear without any surgery. Great news, and hope to see Eddy back again soon!
@soilentgreen74 ай бұрын
yes you're about 24 hours behind - For those not in the loop. Eddy was denied boarding. Nick Dean then took Eddy to Siracha hospital where he was given an MRI scan. Eddy hasn't had a stroke and the swelling wasn't bleeding, it turns out the swelling is an infection which is of course putting pressure on the brain, giving stroke like effects to mobility and cognitive thought. Hes on IV antibiotics, his spirits have lifted a little

I cannot comprehend why, he is playing Russian roulette with his life, by flying back to the UK, with the type of brain trauma, he is currently experiencing, I'd be surprised if he has a fit to fly certificate, because the health professional cannot diagnose his condition until he has an MRI scan. Why he is not using his Medical insurance, is beyond belief. My advice would be, if finance is an issue, I'd visit a Government hospital in Thailand, to be treated, have the necessary treatment, once his condition is stabilised,then return to the UK. My friend had a stroke in Thailand, and was hospitalised for 5 days in Government hospital, had CAT scan, MRI scan, medication, stroke rehab,, and a private room for 5 days for 28,000THB. 900USD or £600. Finally, I wish Eddie to get well soon.
@isaanman53994 ай бұрын
Just exactly what type of brain trauma do you think Eddy has? Eddy said they found a mass that could be cancerous. That sounds like a tumor not a brain bleed or a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel. How do you stabilize a tumor? it’s a totally different medical condition to a stroke & the Dr said he good to fly.

He doesn't have a home in Thailand, he was about to become a visa overstayer if he stayed any longer. He might have a long winded condition - there's plenty of impracticalities to just staying put. A hotel room isn't the place for him to be in his situation.

Sadly I don’t think Eddie will be flying back to the far east again. He’s a good man, and we all enjoy watching his videos. It’s time now for him to settle back in the country he loves to slag off, but luckily for him, they’ve got a world class health system & will help him as much as they can. Moral of the story, enjoy your life, but always look after your health. Plenty of people out there who love a drink, but they drink responsibly (not daily,) they eat well & enjoy life. Eddie’s been on a bender for the past 30 years eating non nutritious food. Eventually it catches up with you. All the best though, wish you a speedy recovery & use this time as a serious wake up call! 🙏

The NHS isn't perfect. It might be free, but if you want fast healthcare, the NHS isn't the way to go. You might end up on a waiting list, depending on the situation. I hope you booked yourself in before leaving Thailand and arranged everything from here. You can email your scans to the UK and get a second opinion in Thailand. Timing might be tight, depending on what's really going on. My family has built hospitals worldwide, and my father has written many additions to the British Standard for medical gases, which are foundational for medical installations today. There is advanced care in Thailand with some of the best surgeons in the world who know what they're doing. (Avoid Pattaya hospitals; the top doctors are in Bangkok.) The UK's NHS is a broken system with many delays. People might still be alive today if they had access to alternative care. I know this firsthand from the lack of continuity in UK care. Personally, I would choose Thailand for healthcare over the UK based on my own experience and dealing with family healthcare issues in both countries. It's easy to think returning to the UK is wise because it's familiar, and many people feel that way. However, rehab in Thailand is much better than in the UK, where they want your bed back as soon as possible due to a shortage. It's important to know what to expect when you get back to the UK and whether they can fast-track you to the right specialist, which can take weeks. In Thailand, you can do it the same day. Worth considering. Good luck, I'll be thinking about you.
