the demo having a non-resettable round limit, even letting you win a run or two, then cutting you off is devious. It burrows into your head, you CRAVE it, your demo runs out so you watch streamers with beta invites play it, and by the time it's ready to come out you'll be feral for this weird addicting game.

There are ways you can bypass the demo limit by deleting some files in your game folder I think, but it's kinda scuffed.

@@bango9085 The other clever move is that like most new roguelikes can start off really super-engaging then you find out that every run plays out in one of like 3 ways. So like, if the dev thinks "it's really good but it needs a lot more susbtance to not be another flavor of the month roguelike" this is a good way of not ruining people's impression of the game ahead of release.

When the first video came out, I was backseating so hard in my mind that I immediately installed balatro and played the demo and beat it first try, ending with a 1-hand 930k play into a 300k boss blind Then the creator took the demo down one day later lmao, thank god I got my run in. Posted a screenshot of it to my steam page, too.

Nl got a little tricked by all the multipliers, thinking that his base multiplier was so much higher than his chips, when, due to all the post multipliers, his mult looked bigger than it was. Mult was a bigger concern than chips

Mult and chips are literally the same thing at the end of the day, I don’t know why he thought he needed to focus on chips when his mult was getting a 4.5x bonus. 2x2 is the same as 1x4, the mults were going insane.

When you have some product a x b, and you can increase either a or b, the total will be most increased by increasing whichever of a or b is currently lowest. So like, with 1 x 4 for instance, if you can increase the 1 or increase the 4 by some amount, it'd be better to increase the 1. In this game that basically means its better to focus on whichever of chips or multiplier is lower each round.

​@@bolts3catchNot true, the fact that your multiplier gets multiplied doesn't matter for if you should focus on multiplier or chips, because multiplication is associative, a * (b * c) = (a * b) * c. You actually want to focus on whichever is usually lower.

I can confirm +1 handsize is just that you hold 9 cards (up from 8), but your played hand size stays 5. However worth noting is the game does account for wacky hands. I've had a five-of-a-kind hand before

yea, unlike all the other roguelites that had "tons of hype", released in early access, and then fell off a cliff because people didn't want to play/buy the game long-term. surely the dev is making a mistake. hype is temporary, quality is forever. the simple fact is that once people can start buying your game, it won't get much more hype/popularity. if the game is good in a few months it can recapture hype. if it releases now, then there is a cap on how much it can grow sales-wise.
