if you’re looking for more weird musicals, there is a musical called “lizard boy” and it is REALLY good and SUPER underrated. it’s about a guy who is mutated to have green scales and how he lives while looking like a “freak” (as an allegory to racism, plot inspired by x-men and similar things, he has superpowers). but anyways, it has PHENOMENAL songs mostly in a guitar heavy, not very “typical” musical sounding style! i’d recommend listening to “trevor’s song / overture”, “a terrible ride”, “myth to live by”, “lizard boy”, and “don’t know where to go” in that order, because it is the order they appear in the musical (though missing a few in between). hope you are doing well!!

Really enjoyed your reaction and thoughtful analysis of those songs by AURORA! So much great stuff to choose from when it comes to AURORA! For her music videos, I highly recommend THE SEED, WINTER BIRD, QUEENDOM, and APPLE TREE! Her live performances are incredible -- THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD, LUCKY, and IT HAPPENED QUIET at Nidaros Cathedral; INFECTIONS OF A DIFFERENT KIND, THE SEED and DAYDREAMER at her 2019 HAIK concert she performed in a forest; ALL IS SOFT INSIDE and CHURCHYARD at the 2018 KEXP concert in Iceland; FORGOTTEN LOVE at the LINDMO concert on NRK; and a number of very recent live performances, especially the acoustic and piano ones! Then there are her covers -- RASPUTIN (Boney M), LIFE ON MARS (David Bowie), TEARDROP (Massive Attack), to name a few.

If you want to get into her really experimental music, listen to "Wisdom Cries". My personal favorite song (along with Warrior) is "In Boxes", and I think you'd really enjoy "Conqueror" as well! Also, fun fact: One of her songs (Under the water) even has a version in Simlish (the made up language in The Sims), which you can find on the "spooky" radio station in the game! By the way, I think it's funny that you started with a cover, when she is known for writing her own music, but it is a very good cover, so no harm done!

Love your reactions. Here's a fellow Norwegian that you might consider analyzing. Shortly after turning 9, this little barefooted girl arranged and performed a masterpiece cover of the Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 original, "I Put a Spell on You". Although this song has been performed time and time again, many think this studio performance got closest to the original artist's intent. To further confound the issue, it also just doesn't seem rational that this is coming from a little Angelina Jordan. You may not prefer critiquing child singers, but this child prodigy is like nothing we've seen before. "I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" (black and white studio performance) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKipnaJ5hb2tedU - A Child Prodigy - Angelina Jordan is a child prodigy who: began singing at 16 months old; shows a clear preference for jazz/blues (Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Etta James, Ben E. King, and Amy Winehouse), a talent which always work its way into every performance with her vibrato and riffs; she arranges all of her music; entered Norway's Got Talent at 7 y/o, and ended up winning; has performed around the world; her parents have kept their focus on her having a normal childhood so 90% of requests and offers have been turned down. The largest performance she has sung for was for over 40,000 people, while still a preteen in Norway. Having won Norway’s Got Talent, she was invited to compete America's Got Talent "The Champions" in 2020, at 13 y/o. She auditioned with her own arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody", earning herm a pass straight to the finals. By 15, she has over 160 cover performances and 5 originals. She has signed with Republic Records at 14. Her parents have still tried to preserve a normal childhood as possible for her and her little sister. She turned 16 this January, and Angelina's presence in the music industry is increasing (Here is Republic Records' page about Angelina - www.republicrecords.com/artists/angelina-jordan ) Here are 2 other videos you may wish to sample. The first is her "Bohemian Rhapsody" audition for AGTC and the second is her final performance on Norway's Got Talent, where she arranged and performed "Summertime". This second video has English CC and is broken into 4 parts: a spotlight on Angelina's experience on NGT; her performance of "Summertime"; the judge's responses to the impacts Angelina has made on them; and the announcement of the winner. Here are the time breakdowns of this performance: spotlight 0-1.40; performance of "Summertime" 1.40-4.20; judges summation 4.20-8.00; winner selected 8.00-12.48. If you wish to only listen to the song, I've included the judge's comments below. I've also included the backstory on why Angelina always performs and records barefoot. AGTC - "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY" (includes golden buzzer) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnSUmXdtoMSKitk NGT 4 - "SUMMERTIME" (spotlights Angelina, pre/post performance, winning NGT, and has English CC) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sH-XnHSlm5acqZI - Norway's Got Talent Judges Reflections on Angelina - Omer Bhatti: “We were in shock when she started to sing…it was a discussion whether it was an impression of that kind of music (ref to Gloomy Sunday performance) or the real deal…and the next time we saw her, she owned the stage, when she rehearsed, she told the bassist what she wanted and had full control. And we were like…ok…you are a star…we have something special here…”. Judge Lisa Tønne: “…I am so happy that there is a human like you on earth. For me, this is not human like talent, I can’t explain it. … I’ve never ever experienced such a talent in my life.… “Don’t think. Just sing”. Judge Mia Gundersen: “Angelina, you have a gift that you got at such an early age. And to be able to convey this talent to the world is a huge task for an 8 year old, but you nail it. There’s almost no one that can convey in the way you do in this age. There are a lot of singers out there, and some of them sing great. But you have such a unique style. You have to protect your style. You have to understand that for yourself because it’s a gift…" Judge Bjarte Hjelmeland: “It won’t help how many times you say ‘Don’t you cry’, I can’t help it but to cry. You know I promised you and myself to not cry, but you hit something inside me whenever you sing, and you hit something in many people when you sing. And I’m thinking to myself, in 10 years… I think that is unimaginable…You sing so amazingly good.” - The Barefoot Princess of Jazz Backstory - Angelina is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz". She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio recording. The story is that when living in the Middle East, at age 6, she came across an orphaned girl about her age sitting in the street, earning money by weighing people on a bathroom scale. She noticed how really cold it was and that the little girl was not only barefooted, but had scars on her feet. So 6 year old Angelina took off her own shoes, shoes that she loved, and gave them to the girl. Angelina decided she wouldn't wear shoes in her performances to remind her of all the children in the world who had no parents, proper clothes, or shoes. She remembers that girl every time she takes off her shoes to perform. Of the encounter, little 6 year old Angelina wrote in her diary: “The world is very strange. Right then and there I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” In 2015, at 9 years of age, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter (making her the youngest published author in Norway). The book and her attire Angelina wore for her AGTC audition (above) were designed by her grandmother, who was herself a child prodigy in poetry and art. She has performed in charities for children, helping to raise 21 million euros and millions of dollars.

SHE IS AN ABSOLUTE QUEEN. I get to her concert in the USA! (Her live singing is fantastic) Overdue reaction to such an idol, but I think I want you to see her most powerful songs!!☆ My suggestions: 'It Happened Quiet' (acoustic version or normal) 'Murder Song' (Nobel Peace Prize 2015 Live) 'Churchyard' (Original) 'The Seed' (Music video - my personal favorite) 'Athena' (the lyric video) 'Exhale, Inhale' (lyric video) I think these are interesting in lyrics, composition and in their power!☆

Oh to be able to go back a few years to when I first listened to each song and the feelings of discovery they evoked in me being so new to me. My friends told me about her music and I started out with 'the seed' which is quite a powerful song and I fell in love with the music almost immediately. And what a time for Mathew to start listening, just as the new album dropped, giving us even more variation and new song styles. Every single song is brilliant and refreshing/distinct whilst also having songs like 'a different kind of human' and 'mothership' being similar and even overlapping their audio in some places to tell her stories from each album. She creates these worlds of both calm and safety but intense power and naïvety of sticking to the status quo. Anyways, some cool facts. 'Half the world away' was for the John Lewis Christmas advert about the man on the moon. Such an iconic thing to be able to do as the John Lewis adverts were practically a Christmas tradition lol. She also sang a haunting cover of 'nature boy' for one of the Alien movies. 'Running with the wolves' got a second version made to better fit the film Wolfwalkers. She sang as the mystery voice in Frozen 2. So she really does have a lot under her belt. When Mathew said he felt like chanting the lyrics to 'warrior' with a bunch of other people I couldn't help but laugh because that's exactly what happens at an AURORA concert when she sings that song. Everyone sings along and those fists go in the air during the chorus, every song is just as excellent in live form as well because she really is that great at singing. Certain songs are slightly different when sung live to better fit the concert narrative, cause even her concerts tell stories. Got my second concert seeing her in less than a month and I am so hyped

I reckon you might like Au/ra her music is slightly more haunting sounding, but uses harmonics in a beautiful way. I would easily recommend her to anyone who has a passion for music

This was a great and sincere reaction to the talent of Aurora. I'd love to see your reaction to her singing 'It Happened Quiet' live at The Current. It's one of the best performances I've ever seen from anybody and always gives me the chills. I think you'd really like it.
