Our neutrality to hate to Russia ( which in return they cut off all transit which Latvia was profiting of ) Latvia right now is just surviving from NATO donations which they get from praising Ukrainians. The entire capital was shatter around with Ukrainian flags for like 2 years, and only on Independence Day, feds thought that, maybe it’s important for the Independence Day to actually see Latvian flags and not Ukrainian. I did my Erasmus in Liepāja this year and it was probably my best decision ever. What a fucking cool country. I genuinely miss those times I spent there. I know it's not the sexiest place on Earth, cities are mostly not pretty, people are cold at first, although not as much as the weather, some places look really poor, but you have amazing nature, cheap alcohol (especially for my Western European wallet), pretty girls, actually cool people after a few glasses in their blood and an overall chillness I've rarely seen elsewhere, even in the most crowded places. It's kind of sad you equate the center of Riga to "Latvia", because it's so much more than that. I'm French and I have the same feeling when people say they visited France and didn't even leave Paris. What's fun is that I travelled a lot back then, around the country and also the neighbouring ones, and when I was back in Latvia, I was like "ahh finally I'm at home" even though I hadn't seen France in months 😆

The sounds dz and c is giving me a nightmare because it's a different tone. The only thing I had an issue with was a few mistaking me for a Russian when they heard I either am from Serbia or me speak Serbian. LATVIA MENTIONEDD!!! 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻 The history segment was just a student trying to make a presentation on a last day. So much missing context like the Baltic Ice Lake. Why Riga became the trading hub for the Germans (it was because of the Novgorod trade node, going against Daugava they could reach them). WW1 segment had a good starting premise, but derailed into 1 sentence events. If anyone wants official resource, you can use Latvian National Encyclopedia. I guess that does incentivize others to search for context themselves. Another fun fact that was missed is that prior to WW1, Riga was 3rd largest city in Russian Empire. I know you tried to educate, Latvians like when they are talked about, but the history segment was not Skrumpi hype. The Saint Peter's Church and the House of Blackheads was greatly explained, I loved it! ❤

My grandfather had to leave Latvia back in the 1930's had to flee the soviets, his neighbor and a bunch of others in his village were murdered and he was supposed to be the next one exactly he escaped. My Grandpa's family ended up burying almost all their valuables behind their barn. So that way after the war, they could try to attempt to dig it up and get it back. The sad thing is that my Grandpa's family had deep history daing back to the 13th century. Being one of the founding families of Coronian kings in Courland.

When we visited the US, the main thing said was that we seemed to be hard to approach, cold, and almost rude. Conversely, our main culture shock was of people being so open, smiling, and very friendly to strangers. Especially in places like stores, we found it weird why were the cashiers so happy about life and us being there - is it fake, is it forced, am I being scammed? I suppose our nature is understandable when we've been being tossed around for so many decades...

I know there was "Peteris Stuchka " alternative socialist government, but it has nothing to do with 1918 (18.nov) which we honor as birth date of Latvia. - it may be offensive to Latvians as most of them felt Stalin's evil hand. other wise Quite accurate history.
