Absolutely love this video!!! The Karen Long Neck Tribe Village rocks authenticity!!! The people are so beautiful and their craftsmanship skills are amazing. Handmade scarfs, jewelry, sculptures, and all the other pieces are all worth their weight in gold. Wish I could spend a couple days in this village getting to know the people and observe them working at their craft.

It’s only a “Human Zoo” if people treat it like that when visiting. I have been to that village and the folks are very welcoming and happy to share their culture. If they wished to remain isolated they would simply stop the boat ride. It’s so important to support the villagers along the way like you are doing. Another great video

With respect, yehhhh, we come to learn about their life, culture and their Village. So it is not a human Zoo at all.... It is their identity... just like tattoo, dress, looks... or other ethnics when we visit their towns or villages. If we only talk about their necks, not their textiles, ways of living and their craft skills, then, we avoid being respect to their culture. So I am glad you helped them buying their products and gave donations. Very very well done! 😊😊😊

In Inle Lake part of the tour was visiting the long neck tribe. It was a bit more commercial than this village but Inle was an amazing experience. Luckily I actually lived there before the junta took over and was able to travel through out the country. I also went to Chaing Rai and went to see the tribes living in the upper hills just outside of town. Years ago I went to an exhibit in Chaing Mai that was photos and items from the tribes that live in a province protected hard to get their if you're a tourist.

Really interesting to see the long neck village. The people are so friendly and the items they sell are amazing . It’s depends how people view it as they have no state benefits and need money . The work the men do outside the village may not be paid well. It’s a shame that the tradition may disappear soon. Well done on picking up a few items and the donation.

Serb - Please accept my apology upfront as you may not agree with my comment about the Neck tribe village. I visited there in September this year, on a whirlwind mini van day tour - of the white temple, Black temple, Golden temple etc.etc. I was actually looking forward to seeing this, but...while the ladies and their young daughters were very friendly and obviously talented at using the looms to create shawls, it all seemed a bit 'fake'. Stall upon stall sold the same trinkets and honestly it didn't look like they even lived there, it was more of a movie set.
@LifewithSerg11 ай бұрын
It depends which village you want to. There’s about five or six villages. I picked this one specifically because it supposed to be the oldest and most authentic. It did not feel like a movie set at all, because as you could see in my video, I showed you their houses. I’m sorry you were disappointed, but such is life. Not everything appeals to everyone. No need to apologize. Take care.

I’m curious how you picked this route is it a famous route something that you read about in the past or is it just a route that you picked out on a map? You’re really getting a lot of good footage along the way very interesting points of interest. I’d like to do this route when I get over there in a couple years. Very cool content! Have you seen seen any snakes crossing the roadroad as you’re cruising on your bike? I remember as a kid seeing these long neck tribes in national geographics I had no idea this traditional was still going on. Boy that has to be painful.
@LifewithSerg11 ай бұрын
The Mae Hong Son loop is very popular with many motorcyclists. I basically just looked on Google along the route and picked out things that were interesting. Got half the places I went I had picked out ahead of time, while the other, either found randomly, or search them out while on the trip. I did see one dead snake on the road during my trip.

@LifewithSerg11 ай бұрын
I bought a whole bunch of them as presents for a variety of people. Just imagine if they had an online store! I’m sure people would buy these left and right.
To my mind Serg, the single most notable thing out in the districts of just about any developing country is the crowing of roosters. A close second would be the dogs. I spent quite a few years living and working in the Asia Pacific in rural areas and I see many similarities in societies, customs and traditions in Thailand that I experienced over time.
@LifewithSerg11 ай бұрын
I think you’ve got that one, correct! Roosters and street dogs. 😅
@Peacekeeper196611 ай бұрын
I never became accustomed to the dogs barking like demented banshees in the early hours though. The hotel rooms are another thing that very similar, especially the shower/bathroom in the simpler hotels. A hotel I lived at for 12 months back in 2008 had a pool but for a while due to conflict the only salt that the owner could get was 500 gram packs of table salt from Australia. The maintenance guy, who had been an Olympian weightlifter came in one day to find two pallets of 500 gm boxes of table salt. Poor bloke, took him days to open and empty those hundreds of boxes into the pool but I was very thankful for a safe place to cool off.

One thing I'm not so happy about the Kayan women is that nowadays they don't wear the brass neck ring by mean to conserve their tradition anymore but the reason why you can still see them wearing is all about the income from tourism. Imagine people from afar come to visit you to see you r peculiar way of life everyday like your home is a zoo but you need their money to live comfortably so you got to constrain your feelings and let the show going on.
@LifewithSerg11 ай бұрын
Unless you have actually talked to them, and they told you this directly, I think you’re making assumptions. I was at this village, and I talked to several of these women, and they all said they wear them because of tradition.
