8:08:25 About the reason why Maya did what she did… as writer myself, I could see why the betrayal cut so deep. There is no need to add sexual predatory layer to it. The power abuse is enough as it is. It also shows that a person can be broken by many things and in many ways, some of them less obvious than others. As a woman in the middle of my 30s, I agree with you, Morph, that stolen book shouldn’t be the reason to end everything. On the other hand, let’s not forget that Maya was very young (in early 20s or younger), she was a student and this was her best work at that time. She probably felt so desperate and left alone in the dark. If she stayed alive, I am sure she would write a new book, a better one… but she didn’t get enough support from her friends and school’s administration. Everyone silenced her, and this led to the tragedy. The true reason why she quit wasn’t the book itself, wasn’t solely her mentor’s betrayal, but it was her friends’ betrayal as well and everything altogether.

Her turning full on Marvel Villain kinda ruined the ending for me. Everything till Ep. 5 is solid but it just goes downhill from there. The Nightmare scenes were neat but replacing Nathan with Max and Chloe with Safi Idk. I mean they try to represent her current situation but it doesnt stick with me. Also her switiching between timelines was important like for 2-3 episodes and after that she just switches to talk to people and nothing more. The whole Murder Mystery aspect fell apart after Ep.2 Dont get me started on how sh*tty they treated Chloe. Yeah its a good game but I even liked True Colors a bit more. Not because of Alex but there the story was more compelling to me because I felt like im living in a town. Here you are supposed to be a "teacher" yet Max never speaks to any colleagues or attends classes. Its really bizarre. I love Max as a character but this game wasnt it unfortunately. Still its a solid game till Ep. 5 so from me 7/10

Absolutely loved Moses' character, he was just a genuinely nice dude, felt so bad for him in the dead world though, he's definitely one of those characters that given a bit more drama, he could definitely make me cry lmao.. I did tear up a little at the 'Ginger bread house chimney', not for Safi and what she did, but for Moses and his reaction. Lots of spoilers in this comment, in case anyone hasn't played/ seen the first games but are intending to. In terms of the actual story and writing.. I feel like the plot wasn't awful, but the writing definitely didn't hit like the earlier games did. I feel like the first game had a lot more going on, and the characters were much more interesting. E.g. the kinda 'Side storylines' like Kate Marsh and her depression, Frank and his moodyness that actually turned out to be a bit of a mask, hiding the pain he went through in losing Rachel too. The way characters such as Victoria Chase, Frank, Nathan and David started out as super ulikable characters, but the game redeems/ has you feeling sympathy and understanding them a bit better. The first games also made me cry a lot more lmao, e.g the stuff with Chloe's real dad (The dream sequence in Before The Storm where she's acting on stage with her dad.. That really got me), the discovery of Rachel's body only to find out that she had been buried in her and Chloe's hang out spot? That was a bombshell at the time. But basically, I feel as though the previous games had better writing, and to go from 'Choose between the girl you love, and the town you live in'.. Over to 'I merged both universes to give everyone a happy ending, now we can pretend all the bad stuff never happened'.. Idk the ending just didn't hit on this one.. It felt kinda rushed, basically Safi died, Max tries to investigate the murder, ends up merging 2 timelines together to bring Safi back.. Like, where's the consequence? it ends on a pretty happy note for everyone, sure they're all left a bit shaken, but everyone is alive, and everyone is able to move on from the events.. to bring Safi back to life, without sacrificing something else just seems a bit too 'Yay, easy ending, they all live happily ever after'

I never considered Cloe surviving cannon, but I'm not very active in the fandom. I do think not having the people from the first game precent is such a copout, understandable since there would have to be two completely separate branches. Not having the option to see Cloe is such a failure on the games side. Just meeting up for coffee or visiting her grave would have been enough.

*spoilers* . . the main thing i'm confused about is the moment that max shot safi is never brought back? like she doesn't loop back around to that moment. i need an explanation as to why she did it in the first place and when in the timeline it happened. and also what version of max shot her, and how she was able to do it while the original max was walking up to the outlook to find safi.

i think the intention was Max and Safi successfully managed to alter the future slightly. They do still have the same conversation, but instead of sitting on the bench, Safi is standing. And, instead of shooting her, Max throws the gun away. It's sort of a time spiral instead of a time loop.....it's also not very well executed, really

… I guess I’m with you on how the ending feels. I’m sorry to admit it, but it lacks solid reasoning. The characters we were left with by the end also do not make much sense. Why them? It feels forced, does not come to mind naturally. Also, the villain arc is a bit weird. If you want to be perceived as responsible adult, act like one. Instead, we have witnessed a spoiled kid’s tantrum. I don’t mean that it’s all bad. It is nice. An example that little everyday evil exists and affects people. But if they chose this path, they should have stayed true to it till the end. I felt like devs suddenly decided “nah, this series is about supernatural powers and we are gonna make it extra supernatural” and squeezed it all in the last chapter without much thinking. Cartoon-level “super-villain” reveal, the madness, the storm, the gunfire… and a bunch of loose ends hanging out in the wind. Detective: what really happened to him? Was it reversible? Why did it happen to him and not to anyone else? A twist to get rid of unwanted character? I feel sorry for him and his plotline. The cat you named Miso. Not much time spent together and then just what? How did cat survive it? Why did we get messages from the cat? Why don’t we get to pet him in the end, like any responsible pet owner? Yasmin: what was the “evil” she tried to avoid? Was she really the only one to blame? I don’t think so. She may have done her fair share of mistakes, but in the end everyone makes their own choice and has to deal with consequences. Even if they act as they were told by someone, it is a choice. All the students? They were more of background annoyance that anything else. I didn’t even understand if Max cared for them or not 😂

I honestly liked the game. Maybe I'm a rare one. Maybe I'm too attached to this game series, but to me this game is being used as a segway into something bigger and sadly deck nine is making us wait longer for something much more explosive where all of the games collide. A game where we'll see Max, Daniel and Sean, and possibly Alex. They're using Safi as this future villain, and the ending is showing she was serious about finding others like her and Max. It isn't the best game.. certainly not what we expected after so long, but I honestly think they want to furnish something that makes this game a lot more important and prevalent and enjoyable.. in the future, that would combine all of these beloved stories and characters. I'm looking at this from a writers perspective too and because I know about that world.. this game is totally something these writers would do. I just think they should've tried a little harder to make this one hit home more for it to really make it worth waiting as long as we have. I hope this game doesn't accidentally kill the series just because it didn't scratch the itch every has had for so long... :( I know some people are and will be heavily disappointed by some of it.

Regarding Gwen's actions: it's pretty common when trying to get published to only provide a small blurb or portion of the book. its possible Gwen thought that submission was really good and worth getting published. she worked hard for it, and when Safi finally submitted the full manuscript, THAT's when Gwen read the 'incendiary content' and pulled the plug. Gwen's lines weren't very well written. i think she was supposed to come off conflicted and it didn't land

OK, well I have to admit that after that ending, I feel like I've wasted several hours of my life. But I'm sure later I will remember good parts. This feels like a capstone to the series. Unless... the post-credits scene is set-up for a next title centred on Safi and introducing new characters with superpowers. Honestly can't see that going well. Meh, ... So I am with you @MadMorph. To expand, I feel that, in the final chapter, there was a missed opportunity build on the powerful storm segment with an impactful ending. Little exposition of exactly how Max knitted the timelines back together, no real context to how and why there were two timelines in the first place. Nothing much about what happened after the storm. Lastly, in my mind, the entire final chapter *was* the epilogue. In the sudden calm after the storm, the rather pedestrian checking in with an odd assortment of major and minor characters sounded like saying goodbye. Hence - capstone to the series. I was unimpressed with the design of Safi's shapeshifting superpower. Were the story better written, there would be foreshadowing and opportunities to put two and two together. It is also OP as a plot point or game mechanic. Max's powers were interesting because they had limits and consequences. Safi could impersonate the Prime Minister of the UK and stroll into number 10 without even trying. There were well-done aspects too, of course. For instance, the detective running into his doppelganger changing history was well handled. Parallels with 1984. Good character development of Vinh. TL;DR - rambling half considered nonsense about the game LOL

I feel the same about the last chapter and the ending as you do, Morph. And overall, they could've done so much more with the characters and their storylines to make it compelling, in my opinion. I personally really liked the new characters, especially Safi, Vinh, and Moses. Also, the concept of jumping timelines rather than rewinding time was honestly such a great new power to introduce for Max! It felt like a natural progression from the premise of the first game, which was changing the past to create a different future, to the creation/existence of parallel timelines. I feel like it could've been much cooler if that mechanic and the gameplay overall were more complex. To me, it seemed like they had all the right components to make a great sequel, but didn't quite know how to put them together and make them work as a story. But regardless, you made it so enjoyable to watch (as you always do) and I did really enjoy the journey with you! This has been my comfort watch over the past few days, so thank you for giving us another very cozy playthrough ❤

I’ll be honest I had just bought the game when this came out and I couldn’t help myself and listened to the first part of your review I was so shocked to hear you didn’t like it, just because you’re always so cozy and positive 😅 so to hear you be so honest about how it didn’t make any impact I couldn’t believe it! Having played it now I understand, like I had a good time not gonna lie, but tbh I’m very easily impressed and it’s very weird that I hate something, but the downgrade is real. I think what bothers me the most is that I felt they were trying to rush the story and didn’t put the best effort on the gameplay, like the exploration and interaction felt very limited, one of the best things about the other games was using the powers to help other people and on the first one you actually had to think about how much to rewind time to achieve your goal, here it just was change universes and the last episode just take a photo. I don’t know what deck nine was thinking, I know a lot of people say that since BTS and TC the magic’s been lost, I personally don’t completely agree, I loved TC and it’s definitely so much better than this, the episode with the festival it’s one of my favorite episodes in all life is strange games, the romance was also better you actually spent time with Steph and Ryan, and obviously you actually spent time with Chloe on the first one, here you went on one cute date with Amanda and never interacted again 🙁 and Vinh? Hello? Also am I crazy? I felt it was shorter than the other ones, but maybe it’s just because the world interactions are so limited. (Doesn’t hate she says, proceeds to rant about all the things she didn’t like) But anyway just wanted to say that I completely agree with your review, I do think that the magic from the first two games is gone, but hey! We have our own MCU now!! Max Caufield will return on LIS infinity war and endgame

Good lord the writing in this game was atrocious. After the ending of True Colors, I kind of lost any and all hope for any further games in this franchise but wow sheesh that was awful. I just want to shake all of these characters by the shoulders and yell, "Its not that deep!" Like, the stakes were so low why did Safi even act like that? What even was the point of the whole Maya plotline? Where was the emotional connection to literally any of these new characters? The antagonists did some shitty things but again, they werent like "serial killer groomer" levels of shitty like the first game. Certainly not bad enough to warrant shooting your own parent like hello what??? The writing in this game was Starfield levels of bad. 💀

yeah, the story lacked the proper set up so nothing felt earned. Safi was talking about how her mom was controlling and puppet-mastering her whole life - and that is definitely something that could send someone spiraling the way Safi did. Especially since Safi not speaking up for Maya contributed to her dying, so Safi blamed her mom for that. But because Safi is not the PoV character, we sort of get all that info IN the confrontation/break down scene. Which weakens it

First, I had a lot of fun watching this playthrough and commentary. Watching a bit and a bit further for the past few days was a nice evening ritual.^^ I was relly surprised at the reveal of Sofy's power and even more that we encountered her in her disgues. I remember thinking when Vinnh forgot his password that this was a implication to his grief & alcholic tendencies. And I really was full on expecting merged timeline things and that this was the reason for the doubles. But.... what was that this thing with the astral detective slipping into the otherworld and why did the detective explode? This was such a random thing. Especially since it never happened afterwards. Maybe to give hints that Other Max was not really a Max? But between that hint and the revelation was not enough time to build any tention around it. Also I haven't played/watched the prior games, so excuse me if this question is stupid: There was this common self-explanatory knowledge along the characters that shooting Sofy could have potentially solve their problems. But why? Why would shooting her do anything at that point? The harm has been done and killing the initiator doesn't make it undone, or does it? That seem such a weird and bold assumption out of nowhere.

I agree with you, the writing sucked, particularly towards the end. I think going deeper into Safi's insecurities about being herself could have been really interesting, giving Max an opportunity to reflect on who she wants to be -someone who runs and hides, or someone eho faces her past. I feel like that was kind of what the writers were going for at the end, but the way they ended up there definitely didn't resonate with me. I feel like the life is strange universe has a lot of potential to speak on the things that hurt in life and how people move past it, but this ending (or continuation I guess, since apparently they're making another?) Removes that emotional impact in my opinion, and just becomes another version of the x-men, as you mentioned. But, making sequels isn't easy I guess, and following the gut-punch of the first game must have been a major challenge. I just wish they'd focused a bit more on the emotional themes, and devoted less time to the (to me) somewhat arbitrary detective work focused on a character we never get to meet

I wish there was multiple endings like the first one cuz I feel like all the choices dont really matter w one ending. Also safi becoming villian was so out of left field like maybe they couldve made her more mischevious somewhat unreliable character or showed signs of frustration that could build up to her becoming a villian. (that being said though I love pure villians this would be cooler if they didnt share their powers w the whole world)

JUST finished the whole video and holy hell was this an enjoyable watch.
