I was emo/scene around the same era. My flex is that I ran a moderately popular Polyvore page with that style. But the big difference is that I was textbook definition conflict avoidant so when my parents told me I couldn’t dye my hair, I was like, okay cool, I won’t dye my hair then. The only thing that made me cringe about my emo/scene era is that I had literally no filter, so I’d share literally any and every though I had in my brain on my page. Growing older for me is realizing life’s too short to always avoid conflict and realizing I should maybe keep some information to myself lol. Edit: Being a chubby, clumsy, autistic kid who looks younger than my actual age, I was also surprised to learn people were intimidated by me. I only found out recently when talking to someone else, people were intimidated by me. The funny thing is that I did kind of want to intimidate people back then, but I had no idea I actually succeeded in it.

Dude. 🧡 This was literally me. I had no filter. Omg. That's what made me so cringey. I had some classmates following my Instagram fan page. One time I made a vent about my teachers. I cussed them out and said I wanted to punch them in the face. It resulted in me having a meeting with the principal and the teachers. I suspect it was "Chloe" who told on me. That was one of many instances... You hit the nail on the head. Chubby, clumsy, autistic. That is most likely why we were intimidating. Most of the time, I was daydreaming, oblivious, and obsessive. Instead of looking younger though, I looked a lot older than I was. I had premature growth and was double the height of some of my teachers and classmates.

I wanted to be scene so bad when I was 9-10 (I’m a 2010s kid) I would wear those colourful striped fingerless gloves and a “rawr means I love you in dinosaur” hoodie my mom gave me that had burn holes in it, I wanted to cut my hair but i was not allowed to, but then I grew out of all my clothes and just stopped (I did not know that much about the culture since I was literally a baby I just saw it and was like “woah epic I wanna do that!!” I grew more insecure about my body as a got older and stopped caring about my style and only cared about hiding my body Which I am now also starting to get better with)

Same over here. After my pure scene phase, I eventually started to just want to hide my body too because I felt like I didn't look good in anything. I hope you find more confidence in yourself. We're always so hard on ourselves, especially around this age. As I've grown older, I've found I care less and less about what others think and I just say f it. I'm a young adult, I'm going to have fun with how I look no matter what people think.

im kinda young so i wasnt alive to see 2010 or 2009 where scene culture started, but i found out abt it in summer of 2023. The style rlly spoke to me, since my parents died when i was younger and i had really bad depression. I decided to dye my hair blue (kinda based off 2d from gorillaz) wear bracelets that basically look like sleeves going up my arm, fishnet fingerless gloves, skinny jeans, etc. at first i was afraid to dress scene to school bc i was in 6th grade at the time and it was rlly scary because the whole "middle school bullies" thing, so i kinda put off being scene until i found friends that share the same interests. Im now older and i learned that i can dress however i want bc im expressing myself, and idgaf abt what those kidz at my school think abt me. I hope that kids like me will learn to truly embrace who they are, because theres only one u, and ur special in ur own way!! :3 Have a great day everyone!

My god yes.... To be fair I think most of the people that were shipping those ones were 12 - 15 year olds who were self inserting/identifying with the younger character and mixing the older character they fancied into a ship. Personally, I thought I was mature and made excuses for why it was okay. Ciel and Dipper are characters that are archetypes of intelligence and power. We're so caught up in the fantasy and idealism of the world we forgot that's not real life... and 12-13 yrolds cannot consent and/or do not have the wisdom or experience to consent with an older adult. Thank you for this. What is perceived as "aesthetic" or "cool" can be severely dangerous. Tumblr was a cesspool for that crap. I was about to go down the pro-ana rabbit hole too but thankfully restrained myself. The further I dug, I could feel in my gut that something seemed dark and off-putting. Trends like this are fleeting. They may seem "cool" in the moment, but their impact will stick with you forever. After these things aren't glamorized anymore all you're left with is pain and regret. It's not worth it.
