I stopped shopping at GameStop around when I started watching Camelot331, he published stories about these issues months and years ago. There are times when warranties are a good idea; you don't want more warranties than you can keep track of, I got warranties on office chairs because I knew they'd break down and made sure to cash them in before they broke, so it helped finance the next chair. Did it for years till I found one that doesn't break so easily, trial and error on a budget!

The issue is getting inventory and competing with eBay and Amazon. There are some areas that just can't support a gamestore. Iv nown several people in various cities who tried to run a game store and they all went under because they couldn't get inventory because to many people think there crap is worth a bunch or people want to offload hundreds of sports games no one wants that takes up self-paced and sits for ever and ever. You more then likely have to be willing to take massive amounts of loss for everal years get conatly told of and be littled when people get upset with how much you are willing to pay them for there stuff only to have some customers do the same when they will look up the prices online. If the games don't sell fast enough you could loose money as the value goes up and down. In this day and age the biggest issue is the price of video games and how you can just find hundreds of these for pennies like 20 years ago.

@@monkeytoung speaking of price, I also thought of making a system, maybe a council as well of your more reputable viewers like bigfry or angry joe, that would help determine a price for game and depth of game. It's been said that the actual price of games or at least triple a games are supposed to be around $120 something which is why there's constantly season passes, loot boxes ect( albeit it's somewhat more complicated than what it seems and how the customers and the companies themselves relay that information) obviously no one would pay that much for game by ea or the other companies like them since most of their games honestly are at best worth 10 to 15 dollars. But what if it was a Witcher 3 plus even more content? Or a mass effect game that tried it's hand at interactive TV like elements and deeply explored a couple dozen characters, some related to the main cast, others not. Then have something small, indie like be around 20-25 dollars, middle shelf title be around 30-40. Of course things like if a game, say one of the ideas I had which hopefully can compete with cod though they seem not to know what to do with said ip, had 4 or 5 game modes in addition to a story, had a forge type of thing, something to help content creators ( in fact encourage content creation) and cost say 30 dollars. And for dlc, have a reasonable season and or battle pass for 15 each, which includes skins, gun blueprints, PvE, additions to the game modes, and most importantly only have the season passes be around every 3 months or 4 months ( 4 seems vastly better). Then I thought of different models of game business, instead of $60 plus micro trans or free to play plus micro transactions, why not cheap to play ( I need to workshop the term, I know) where the game, especially if it's something like a fighting game is only $2.50 or $5 plus a supply stream of similar price ( though some more expensive)? Essentially making a digital arcade if it's a middle of the road success or the next sf2 if it's a massive success?

"Control customers through terrorism if needed to reach required scam-sale numbers." I kind of think this is an issue that law enforcement should have been called for, especially for those extended warranties, since it was proven long ago that they are clear-cut theft through deception. Selling illegal drugs is even better morally just because at least the customer actually got the product that they paid for.

Ever since I moved from console to pc, I've been buying digital. One of the main reasons I moved was that I was tired of Sony's anti-consumerism. They really f*cked me over good, after over 20+ years and thousands upon thousands of dollars. Hate that I've yet to play Demons Souls, but I will when it inevitably comes to pc. Also Gamestop promised to drop prices on their games by 10% after switching the pro rewards from a discount to a measly 5$ coupon. Most games are still $55 used so I guess they lied. Part of me will miss Gamestop when they finally go the way of the dino, but a bigger part of me won't.

There are some GameStop stores that do it right. I was just talking to a manager from one in Minnesota who's approach is all about customer rapport. What he does is tell you the benefit of getting the rewards program, the benefit of getting a warranty, but he doesn't push it on people. With his leadership of that store, which had been doing poorly before, and he fired most of the former employees that weren't pulling their weight and brought in new people, that store has become the highest selling store in the state, behind the one in Mall of America. I think that's how the company will still stay alive. There are those who still want physical media and a store experience.

I remember all of the BS that I went through buying games at GameStop during the PS1 and PS2 gen of games. I hated especially when they sold me a 'new' copy of a game at full price, but it was a 'gutted' or display copy where they had the game disc behind the register in the drawer. I also remember feeling like I was being interrogated at GameStop when I went into trade in a game. They asked for my ID which I never liked and I'd walk out of the store without doing any business when they did that, walked into the FYE, Target, or Best Buy (in the same mall) and bought my game from there. I 100% agree that these corporate retail stores need to understand that trying to push these warranties, store credit credit cards, etc on customers stresses out and annoys employees and customers. That part about the upset manager calling the GameStop employee at 3 AM was ridiculous. As much as I hate to say it (even for GameStop), it's a shame that GameStop didn't really care enough about its employees to the point where now we're seeing people just flat out quitting; often leaving the store with no employees.

A new guy was there and literally said I’d only get $20 for the console and two games because the controller I had was a cm off the dead zone on one of the sticks. So took it to Game Xchange and for $170 for it. Ridiculous man.

Gamestop has been doing that since the 90's. I've known five people who worked at Gamestop over the years. All said the store managers would give penalties for not selling the warranties (even on used hardware, which was void as soon as the hardware left the store), or giving full book value for used games (a new game would be book rated at $50, the clerk would be instructed to start at $30 or lower).

I worked at Metro Market, a Kroger owned grocery store, and they would make us try to get customers to set up the rewards program (which you needed for most sales after a change) and the district managers were requiring a certain speed for scanning items/bagging items that wasn't possible, but would threaten to let us go (which never happened to my knowledge). But they would also make the person overseeing the self checkout greet every customer on their way into the checkout, and thank every customer who left, but there's 6 registers and only 1 person doing the self checkout. And once again they would threaten to fire if you didn't meet that standard when the secret shopper would come through

I turned around for a second to speak to my friend, when I turn back around there is a controller in a certified used bag. I told him I wanted a brand new controller, he looked at me confused and said "they want us to sell the used ones first". He said it's $10 less. After telling him 2 more times that I'd rather a new controller, he just stood there, pretty much letting me know he was only going to see the used controller. Next time I went into the store the other girl working there with him was elevated to Manager and she actually thanked me as she said my complaint in him got him fired and that he was a tyrant. I have worked for a phone repair store for the past 3+ years as a remote technician. I have absolutely adored everything about what I do, and it the best job I have ever had. The people I work with all love what they do, and it's been a wonderful time. Last year, we were franchised by ubreakifix, and ever since employee morale has been at an all time low, constantly getting lower, as we are constantly pressured to sell their "Home+" device protection plans, as well as me as a remote tech suddenly being required to push ATT and Verizon extended protection plans. Our store and personal performance metrics are HEAVILY biased toward these insurance plan sales, to the point we are being told "Home+ sales are the only way we can get through winter" This doesn't even begin to cover the other customer service issues that have arisen from the change, that corporate support just does not care about. If only you could see our "internal Reddit" comment system... We were repair technicians who enjoyed our work and we're proud of it, now we feel like pressured insurance salesmen who happen to fix devices on the side.

GameStop ain’t going anywhere, Rich. People have been blabbing this “writing on the walls” nonsense for YEARS! They couldn’t even get BOUGHT when they were trying to get out! The difference between GameStop and BlockBuster is GS is VIDEO BAME focused, CONSTANT content consumption. BB’s focus was movie focus, *1 time* watch content, or however many times you want to watch. We won’t hardly have anything left if GS goes out of business. But guess what? There will ALWAYS be that MAJORITY that will continue to buy physical copies/products. THAT’S why GS will never go out of business, because NOBODY is stepping UP to replace them! I’m not saying I don’t buy how badly employees or even customers were treated/pressured. If GS goes out of business we’re all basically SCREWED out of outlets to buy games from because NOBODY is stepping UP and PRIORITIZING video games as their retail product! No, Rich. GS needs to *STAY* IN BUSINESS and LEARN from their mistakes! And people like YOU need to ACCEPT THAT and QUIT dictating what “needs to”happen to other companies, creators, etc, because you’re basically stating that video games need to/will die in doing so!

The warranty and power up rewards upsell push has been an issue for over 15 years, and one of the big reasons I hated shopping at GameStop. I already said no once, you don't need to ask me two more times. No means no. If you look at all the companies that force those quotas, most are not in business or are about to go out of business. Comp Usa, Sears, Circuit City and Fry's Electronics, just to name a few. No one seems to have learned that focusing on selling warranties or other services is a losing proposition. Sell the products that people come in for, don't tie your whole profit structure to all these ridiculous and generally unnecessary add-ons. Another time the District Manager came in specifically to stand right next to me to watch and see if I was asking each customer if they wanted to open more accounts, even if they just came in for a simple withdrawal. And if they said no he'd pull me aside and say "why did you ask them that way? Exactly! If it wasn’t an excuse at the Nuremberg trials then no one else gets to cry we were just following orders either.

@@ImarBenIsrael Unfortunately human nature gets really dark really quickly. We are a flawed lot. It’s becoming familiar with our own shadow self and then learning to control it that will allow us to have any capacity for doing good. When I was involved in government organization stuff, department of Education, and I saw all the corruption, I just disengage because I didn’t have it in me at the time to fight and I didn’t want to participate. that’s why I see the importance of standing on your principles and being willing to take actionable/tangible steps to defend them.

@@Sonicstillpoint83 remember the movie boondock saints ? What was their quote . The true evil isn't evil men but the indifference men when evil is present and their inaction to do anything about it 🤔

@@ImarBenIsrael wow thanks! I had forgotten about that movie. Brilliantly said and salient point with the ring of timeless truth.
