My thoughts exactly! Otherwise, why wouldn’t he have more empathy for his sister and uninvite the ex-husband, and all of the “friends” who knew and enabled the cheating?! I believe he was in on it, and maybe even the bride as well! OP, I’d just tell him that, since it’s obvious he also knew about the cheating and kept it from you, to keep his cheating friends and guests, and never talk or see you anymore! That goes for anyone else that you discover knew about it! Then block them all!

I grew up living next to Twin Boys. They did not get along and even said they hated looking in the mirror because it reminded them of the other lol. They basically, hated each other. When we all graduated High School together, one of the twins left for the Big University in the Big City with the rest of us, the other went into the Navy. Fast forward about 14 years and they have never seen each other again. I kept in touch with both of them although I was closer to the twin that went to the Big University and he stayed in the city for a job like all of us had. As time went on, many of us heard little to nothing about the other twin in the Navy, and in fact, the twin I hung out with didn't even acknowledge he had a brother let alone a twin. The few of us "older" friends that had been around since High School, didn't mention him either as it would put a damper on any events or things we were doing. The twin I hung out with died in an accident and at the funeral, all hell broke loose when the twin from the Navy that most of his newer friends (INCLUDING HIS GIRLFRIEND) and co-workers didn't know existed, walked down the aisle to the casket in his Navy Dress Whites. People were screaming and crying because they thought they were seeing a ghost or some sort of trick. His boss's wife (who he worked with as well), actually passed out. (As a side note: We found out later she passed out because her and the dead twin were doing some "side action" lol). Of course, the people that knew the Navy Twin existed like old friends and family were happy to see him and many rushed up to hug him. This only inflamed the situation further because the people that didn't know the twin existed had no idea what was going on. Some of them were yelling in Spanish about the twin being reincarnated and all kinds of weird stuff lol. I never saw so many people doing the "sign of the cross" repeatedly and as fast as they could. BEST. FUNERAL. EVER.

I am a bit dark minded, but the first story has a little hint of something I love. The thought that her bio moms funeral, wasn't just a cause for sadness, but for joy. The joy of reuniting bio-children with bio-parents and actually sharing feelings of the painful past on both sides, instead of just "everything is better now" and moving on with life. It's dark, it's sad, but it is also a bit joyous and happy. I am sure her bio-mom would have bee smiling about her child coming back into their lives, if she were still around, no matter 'how' or 'when' she was able to show up.

And they respect my privacy enough never to show up without telling me first. I have a key to their place too. I can just stop there on my way somewhere unannounced, that's just how our family works. I think it depends on how close you are to her. I don't know if you are single or not, but in case of a couple they both have to be ok with that. Also from how entitled she sounded I am guessing she is not close to her son's gf/wife, also from how strong she reacted probably wasn't the first time she was getting involved in her son's life/relationship. Don't get me wrong I have a key at my sister in law which I give in case of emergency and honestly she can come anytime even if I am not home, we are that close and I trust her. Crazy part is she is actually my ex sister in law, as I divorced her brother. 😂

And I certainly don't blame OP for trying to ask *her son* and get an answer from *her son* instead of the rude bitch. Honestly more curious what's up with the wife and why Ethan couldn't speak for himself than anything else. Why would she get so nasty over someone not on the deed having a key? Is she going to prevent any kids she and Ethan may eventually have from having keys, too? Why would she jump immediately to a fire instead of the obvious accident or illness scenario? Almost seems like she's trying to push OP out of Ethan's life. I mean, *maybe* OP was being overly pushy from how her husband reacted, but the request seems innocuous enough.

Story 2: For demanding a key to the house and for not backing down, yes YTA. But I would definitely like to know the other side of the story. Has OP had a habit of intruding before? Does she have reason to worry that an emergency might occur? A spare key can be convenient, but it depends a lot on the situation, which we in this case only know very little about.

Story 3: I wonder with OPs FSIL thinks about Brother being ok with having not only the cheater but all of his accomplices at her weddings and the image it shows Brother endorses.

What a lovely person you are Mark. I am in near tears too, my heart is full and the joy I feel over her reunion with her bio family is immense. I wish others in the same situation could experience the very same. Best story and ending ever 😪🥰 My son gave me keys to his house, he lives alone, I would never use it unless he called me for assistance in any way. He suffers with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and has other medical ailments. He also has a key to our home just in case he feels he needs company at any time. We live quite close but I would never have asked or demanded a key, totally his joice as it should be. Wow, the last one, bl***y appalling, he should be 100% with his sister in this, ex will more than likely take his new cheating gf as his plus one. This is so disrespectful to his sister, I would blank him for the rest of my life. If they all still go they have no morals or shame

Emergency keys: I have my sister’s house keys and she has mine for emergencies. We have always done that. But they way the MIL asked was rude and she deserves a big fat NO!! My sister never asked for my keys, I offered her. Same way, I never asked for her keys, she offered.

Story 2: YTA. OP’s husband is right, OP didn’t ask for a key, she demanded one. OP told her DIL to make a copies of the key and give one to OP. OP sounds entitled to expect a key because OP does expect a key. Making an extra copy of a key and giving it to someone/putting it somewhere to keep safe for emergencies is a good idea. The problem comes from OP assuming they’d give her the emergency key. Honestly OP sounds entitled, like she has a problem with DIL (“she obviously didn’t seem to have any idea...” sounds a tad combative and dismissive) and a problem respecting boundaries (pushing for a key after being told “no”). If OP had got a key 100% she would drop by and let herself in, her son and DIL wouldn’t be able to get rid of her. Edit: Last story: NTA. I would make sure everyone knew I why I stayed away. I would tell someone to spread it around and to explain it if people asked and go NC with brother. But I’m a petty bitch.

Story 2: My house has coded locks. We set different codes for different household members. Two trusted friends have their own permanent codes. Anyone else needing access will receive a temporary code. When the need is over, the code gets deleted. No need to change the locks.

For the last story If I was the brother and my sister told me about what her ex bf and exfriends first I ask where does she want the bodies buried or would it be best she didn't know. The very least I would do is uninvite them.

10 bucks said if the DIL had being firm, but polite, in her declination to give the mother a key, things would not have escalated. It costs nothing to be polite while firm.

Story 2, I can sympathise with Jess about the spare key going to a mother/mother in law. My own mother had one for a while and we saw a big bottle of fizzy pop and a chocolate bar missing one day. She denies it but I'm convinced she came in while we were out and stole them LOL. It really depends on what kind of person MIL is. Also, you don't ask someone for a spare key! you wait until they offer you it!
