Sorry for that man, but good that you’re back on track… I also received 2 of those scams emails last month (which I didn’t really care about…) and another one 2 days ago. Realizing how similar the pattern of those emails were (always with a link to click on) that’s when I realized there’s something fishy. First thing I did was to come on KZbin to watch videos around scams content creators might face on the platform. Fortunately, I’m always using VPN. Just a bit disappointed that KZbin doesn’t warn about these issues.

It not only provides some education to the creators on the platform, but also the community that consumes the content, and giving them a heads up in case it happens to another creator and they can protect themselves and report it so that it can be addressed sooner. 🤞 Just glad you and your channel are intact.

First and foremost STOP using as many google services as possible!! 2nd. Have a personal computer for personal stuff and use a separate computer for business. 3rd. Stop using Google chrome and use Brave. Stop using Google authentication and use Authy. Stop using Google search and use Startpage. Stop using Gmail and use Startmail or Tutanota encrypted email. The biggest problem with Google is everything is connected, when they break in they have access to EVERTHING Google!!! AND Everything done on Google services belongs to Google and you have ZERO privacy !!

Biggest issue right now is if you give access to servers like vidiq or donate alert that can modify your channel. Many big KZbin channels was hacked if they where using it. Unfortunately you are not safe if you 2step auth/sms protection. I advise to remove all 3rd party app access as well.

I do always double check first contact, but like you said, sometimes you get smaller brands that use Gmail so that doesn't always work. So if you had the titan key when this had happened and it was plugged in would they still have been able to hack you from your browser? Just curious how it works. Do you just plug it in while your working and then unplug it when you leave the computer?

Yeah When Im on the computer its plugged in and when I leave I remove the key. You Only need it if you have to sign back in. I wish it was setup so that if it wasnt plugged in your email would instantly log you out but unfortunately its not that crazy secure.

@@LeeZavitz even worse, these things (password managers, keys, etc) can give people a FALSE sense of security, and they're not thinking this whole thing through... if someone takes over your computer, they still have full access to all the logged in tabs, etc. At the very least, log out or lock your computer when you walk away, even with all the other hoopla stuff... better yet, power off or put to sleep.

My other YT account was hacked and spam videos abt cryptocurrency were uploaded and eventually KZbin suspended my account, I have reached out to KZbin team but all to no avail. As I type this comment, the account is still suspended. 2-factor verification failed to alert me. I thought auto fill on edge and brave browsers are safe until i got hacked.

This happened to my main channel, Channel Pup 3 days ago. I was so close to 50K subscribers. They bypassed 2 step verification. Fortunately KZbin have already recovered my Gmail and they terminated the channel as soon as they were made aware of the livestream scam. I think Team YT have really improved. Sadly the virus seems to have improved too because my laptop is bricked. It’s been a crap 2 days.

Oh no that sucks! When you say bricked do you mean you can’t get into the operating system? Thankfully I had not been on that computer since the attack and I instantly formatted that drive. I didnt have anything important on it because I work off external drives. So all I had to do was reinstall OS and apps

Lee Zavitz it shut off very suddenly and will not switch on whatsoever. Tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. The motherboard was making some noises. I have heard that viruses can max out hardware components to do this. It could be coincidence but it would be one heck of a coincidence to be sure.

*Very Informative!* All good points to secure ones access. Thank you for the video!! Lessons to be learned here for sure. You are so lucky that this wasn't a Ransomware attack. Could you imagine everything being encrypted so you can't even access your data unless you pay the ransom price? One wrong click and you are infected before you can even do anything. Even your cloud based storage is vulnerable if it is online at the the time. It's unfortunate that they are people doing this on a regular basis. There needs to be stronger enforcement laws and repurcussions for the individuals that are involved in this type of activity. Never use autologin on anything and make sure to perform *"offline"* backups regularly. Keep creating content. Have liked and subscribed!
