I was diagnosed with PCOS by an OB/GYN years ago, and watching your video now it makes me think that I may have been misdiagnosed as well, as I don’t have most of the symptoms associated with PCOS either (not even cysts). I guess I’d better get a second opinion too, thanks for sharing about this! Stay well x

Glad you found more answers to your questions also glad that you decided to seek more answers and listen to your body. I was diagnosed with PCOS 10 years ago but I started feeling something was off, turned out to be an ovarian tumor, right now I’m the hospital recovering from surgery.... it’s definitely hard as a woman to find the correct answers...

I can totally relate with the bloating and severe menstrual cramps. I feel so happy that you are giving attention to these especially now that you are about to start a family. I’m also glad that you found an excellent doctor and that you feel relieved and that you have someone who is an expert who listens. Thank you for openly sharing these information and personal events in your life to help other women. All the best, G. ❤️

I feel your struggle: I'm sorry. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 20 years ago (it was a diagnosis of elimination: the doctors and specialists had nothing else they could diagnose me with, so they based the diagnosis on my symptoms). Recently (less than 6 months ago), that diagnosis was taken away, which doesn't actually matter to me because it never helped inform my decisions when it came to my healthcare anyway. Medical doctors and specialists over the years have not been able to help. Various TCM practitioners and typical naturopaths (and just about anybody else I could find), have also not helped. I am a Singaporean-born Canadian, so when I would visit SG, my family would take me to see different people,, saying that TCM is better in SG than Canada. Nothing helped. In the past 7 years, I have been working closely with my naturopathic doctor (who practices naturopathy atypically from most) and a few other alternative practitioners. I'm sharing this with you because the belief now is that I have an under-functioning thyroid, despite the clinical results from blood tests. Various issues have arisen and I am learning, more and more, they're not physical. They're emotional issues and stuff dealing with my energies - call them chakras, chi, meridans, whatever - which is resulting in the manifestation of the physical symptoms. I am now only starting to see and feel positive changes. I don't know if that can help you any, but I just wanted to put it out there. Good luck with your healthcare journey. I wish you the best! (I love checking in on your posts every so often - I helps me with my homesickness. I used to visit SG every two years and now with COVID, I'm missing SG fiercely).

Just didn't get my period anymore... the obgyns I went to diagnosed me w pcos but the only thing they did was a blood test, not even an internal ultrasound. And then they just wanted to prescribe hormones instead of treating the root cause ugh. I'm so frustrated and would be so grateful for any tips!!!

whoa, that. is. wild... to be misdiagnosed. so sorry you had to go through that. im male, and also saw the best flattest stomach while on keto. i'd wake up and the stomach was tight, flat, concave almost. but it did wreck my liver, and probably affected a bit of my absorption. these days, i get bloated, right up to under my ribs after eating minimal carbs. it looks so abnormal, a pregnant man. goes down maybe 8 hrs later. i know it shouldn't, but it makes me a bit sad at the carb cards we have been dealt! why cant we just eat whatever and just be happy!? 😭😭😭

It might probably be PCO instead of PCOS. There is a difference between the two. PCO show ovaries that appear to be polycystic on ultrasound imaging with no symptoms. PCOS, on the other hand is a metabolic condition that may or may not come with having polycystic ovaries. Diagnostic criteria can include 2 of the following: Polycystic ovaries on ultrasound; irregular periods; increased male hormone in the blood test or associated symptoms such as acne or excess hair growth.

Hi, based on my personal experience, my bloating is caused by poor digestion and certain food eg. heavy cream (google FODMAP). What I understand is that undigested food in our digestive system will cause rotting, fermenting and eventually gas. To improve my digestion, I have started on super enzymes which i take daily together with my lunch and dinner. To top it up, I also take probiotics daily. The above mentioned remedies have helped to resolve my bloating. Both of which I purchased from iHerb. Hope it helps.

there's a great book called 'period power' which is written amazingly, this could provide you with more insight on your menstrual cycle and how to be in charge of it. there is also an amazing lady named Karen Hurd, who is a nutritionist who founded a diet called the 'bean protocol' which is essentially a diet that can cure soo many things, from acne to autoimmune diseases. theres a great podcast with her on 'Expanded- by Lacey Phillips' and it's episode 75, i highly recommend listening to this as it is very informative on how to help cure yourself from so so many things with this diet.

Noodles 👈 substitute it with 'Tung Hoon' (in hokkien),made from green beans (is protein not starch) taste s like 'mee hoon'. Boil it for a few minutes till the texture you like to supplement your keto diet. Feels like you're eating noodles. Add veges , chopped cucumber , onions to make it less bland with your meats. Try substituting Marmite (made from yeast) with Bovril (made from beef). Hope this helps your diet. XOXO

Several doctors said that the cyst on my ovary is nothing until one doctor looked at ultrasound and was like "You have to remove it NOW". For all that time I was feeling there is something wrong. Push for the laparoscopy!! I was diagnosed with Endometriosis last year and although it's quite hard dealing with the diagnosis sometimes and all that comes with it, it has definitely added clarity into my life and made GPs and doctors listen to me a lot more when I now go to get pain relief or for anything really! I was only 20 when I had it and so wasn't trying for a baby but they did remove endometriosis that was growing on my pelvis wall and near my bowel, so had it been left, it could've started to cause damage and interfered with my organs a lot more! I think it's such a shame that they say it's only really necessary when you start trying for a baby because it can do a lot of damage at any age, not just to your fertility but your body in general. I never got told it could do more bad than good and honestly, i feel so much better physically and mentally now than I did before the laparoscopy! I really hope you get the clarity you are looking for soon!!xx

@@ashlynwong568 Of course! For me it was the persistent pain in my lower left abdomen (i'm assuming where my left ovary is) that finally got me the laparoscopy! For the 3 years prior to the surgery I went back to the doctors a numerous amount of times for abdomen and lower back pain where the pain in my back felt almost like a pressure as it someone was standing on it and the lower abdomen pain often feels like there was a lit match inside my stomach or like when a mouth ulcer gets vinegar or tomato in it! I wouldn't say that my periods were any more painful than before but they were definitely heavier! This got me referred to the gynae finally but at first they just put me on the pill, gave me an ultrasound which doesn't even show endo and then tried to treat me for IBS which I knew it wasn't. In the end they finally gave me a laparoscopy and surprise surprise it's endo! It was a long time to get it but i'm so relieved I did as i'm now on the right medication to control it so I really hope you get the treatment you want and need! xx

I had a dermoid cyst too. My fertility specialist Dr LC Cheng advised against laparoscopy due to the risks on my body. Instead, after I became pregnant, I had a C-section and the gynae removed my dermoid cyst at the same time while delivering my baby.

@@hazelnut1824 I've weirdly never even heard doctors say they won't do a laparoscopy because of the risk and all my friends that have had them haven't been confronted with that either! I'm in the UK so I'm not sure if the procedure is different here but with endo it's best to remove it as early as possible or else it will just continue to grow and grow. I'm glad you got your cyst removed! I hope you and your baby are doing okay! xx

Almost 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with PCOS after one blood test. I had no other symptoms other than amenorrhoea at the time, which I later put down to a low-carb diet and excessive iron intake during that period (more on that later). Healthy body weight and composition too. The GP didn't tell me what the blood results said, just that it was 'typical of polycystic ovaries'. On reflection, that comment should've piqued my ears because PCO is not the same as PCOS. Nevertheless, I was given oral contraceptive to regulate my periods, but I stopped them after three months out of concern with their effects after long-term use. After realising I'd been on iron tablets for longer than I should've been, as well as a drastic diet, I did some research and discovered both factors apparently contribute to endocrinal disruption. I'd already ceased the iron shortly before the diagnosis, but I ensured to increase my carb intake. After a couple of months, lo and behold... my period returned. And has remained since. I live in the UK, so I receive messages every year from the GP for a diabetes onset blood test. I've tried on several occasions to inform my practice that I don't have PCOS and to stop sending the blood test invitations, but they claim they're required to do so, even if the PCOS is resolved. It seems to me that once diagnosed, it's difficult to remove it from your records.

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs which develop in the ovaries. They are a common problem that many women face during their reproductive age. In general, these cysts are pain-free and cause no problems at all. However, they may lead to various signs and symptoms. There are various types of ovarian cysts, functional cysts being the most common ones. Corpus luteum cysts and follicle cysts are the two most common types of functional cysts. Other types of ovarian cysts are endometrioma cysts, dermoid cysts, cystadenomas, etc. As mentioned, ovarian cysts can be asymptomatic and for this reason, they are not diagnosed. When signs and symptoms appear, ovarian cysts are diagnosed based on physical examination, abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, CA125 test, CT-scan, MRI-scan. Ovarian cyst treatment will depend on the size, type, appearance of the cyst in the ultrasound, as well as patient age and presence of signs and symptoms. with herbal medicine you will get rid of ovarian cyst permanently. contact Dr Akhigbe on WhatsApp +2348140126449 or email him at drakhigbe837@gmail.com. When I was younger, sometimes I would have multiple periods in a month (like 3 periods) and also very long periods (7-9 days), although I have no menstral pain at all. I have checked with an OBY/GYN and through intrauterine ultrasound, found some follicles in my ovaries, and I was suspected to have PCOS. Years later, I find my symptoms to not match with PCOS and could be just how my body menstruate. Anyway now that I am older, my periods are less irregular, so maybe it’s a bit better now. Probably should go see another doctor for second opinion.

Yes I agree! I was recently (like a month ago) at the gynaecologist and diagnosed with PCOS based on (1) cysts in my ovaries from an ultrasound and (2) my long-ish and irregular menstrual cycle. But I don't have all the other symptoms (weight issues, acne, skin darkening etc.), so Lara Briden's book was really insightful and opened my eyes to so many other reasons why I have these symptoms, and not take the diagnosis at face value. I also am in the middle of PCOS SOS - by Dr. Felice Gersh, who is a board certified gynae. Lara Briden is a natropathic doctor and while I have tremendous respect for her experience and like (and recommend!) her book I also wanted to see if conventional science had a similar view. Like Georgia, I'm also in the middle of trying to figure out who to see next or what to do. Anyone interested in the books let me know - happy to send e-copies your way. And Georgia, I've been taking Seed synbiotic (prebiotic and probiotic combined) for a couple of months and really like them. I don't have severe bloating but I have some bloating episodes off and on. From all accounts Seed has great probiotic strains, is shelf stable (doesn't degrade at room temperature) and has the UN Probiotic chair on their scientific review panel. They're pricey I'm afraid. I pay about USD 150 for 3-4 months worth of refills at one time, but check them out!

I have insanely painful periods as well since the age of 13-14. So bad that I end up puking due to unbearable pain even after taking pain meds every two hours. Even had to go to the emergency a few times because the pain was just so unbearable and had to get strong pain medication injected. I went to several gynecologists when I was a teenager but nobody could tell me what was wrong with me. I am 27 now and thinking of seeing a new gynecologist and talk to to him about the possibility of endometriosis.

The same with me, when I was 16 when I do have periods I would faint and puke..... then it turned out I have a retroverted uterus, meaning its pointing at my back instead of in front. Lols the reason why its painful is because the uterus is squeezing itself to push the blood out. I can literally feel it squeezing 🙄🙄🙄 that’s when I feel like Ill faint

I was searching and looking at PCOS (as a man) what does it even mean...and oooh, after reading it, I also come to the conclusion you are not likely to have. Doesn't have to take a doctor to tell you. Why? Because it says women with PCOS are likely to also develop diabetes, high blood pressure etc which to me seem to be associated more with obese than skinny women and those who eat recklessly. There you go, it's free diagnosis, just not a qualified one! Lol

The thing that really annoys me is that people really do think that PCOS is strictly linked to being bigger but it’s not. I have it being a bigger girl but so do three of my friends who are all under a size 10. The stigma definitely needs to be smooshed in some way because it’s ridiculous! Anyone womb given people can get PCOS regardless of their size! I also have Endo as well as PCOS and the things I eat affects me too. Gluten, barley and oats are a big factor in making me bloat and have chronic pains. It doesn’t seem to be something that gets taken seriously unless you come across that hidden gem of a doctor 😞
