But what struck me was how I feel the pain for three generations of Germans now who didn't allow themselves and were not allowed to pay tribute to the men and boys who gave their lves for Germany in WW2. Yes, we had the dictator. But it was the fathers and sons of my people who died and left a wound behind. In my granfather's generation everybody knew a Frankie. But they were told to shut up by those who wanted to move on and be better Germans. We need this honest mourning of the young generation, too. You did that wonderfully.

My dear, you have the voice of an Angel. Thank you for taking the time to record this tribute. As a U.S. Navy Submarine Veteran of the Cold War, I've learned to hear the songs written for the more visible veterans as also being supportive of us who served the cause of Freedom in places further than shadows dare to dwell. I've been told that a Submarine Veterans song does exist… unfortunately it can't be heard, and the lyrics, music, and performances can't be seen, but it's out there. Thank you for sharing your breathtakingly beautiful voice and this lovely ode with us. Your birth nation should be proud of their Daughter. God bless you, and keep the remarkable content coming.

that picture at 3:49 really hits me differently to the others. My grandfather was in the Korean war. He died last year in hospital from a chest infection coupled with pneumonia after surviving an operation for a hip replacement at the age of 94. The reason it hits different is because the lock downs stopped any other soldiers coming to his funeral. The Army sent one guy out to read out his medals and a second one to help him fold the flag that covered the coffin, but no soldier he knew were there

In one of Dan Carlin's podcasts on WWI, he quoted a military historian who was asked who the best troops during that time were. I don't remember the exact quote, but it went something along the lines of: "the British in general, the Australians/NZ in particular." He explained that it had to do with the unflagging morale and bravery of the troops even in the most hopeless of circumstances. Thank you from the USA for your sacrifices.

To my cousins down-under from an American 68 year old who was one of those 19 year olds. Be brave my brothers. I’ll tell you now what you’ve already figured out for yourself. It never goes away, it never will. Time softens the edges, blurrs the images. The dreams never stop but the intervals between them is getting wider. A person can never gaze on war and remain unchanged because after all, what does it make you if you are well adjusted to a sick and twisted situation? We carry this with us and Brothers, carry it we do. It colors our every interaction, judgement, and response to the world around us. We became old and bitter children. Cynical adults is the best we can hope for. Sorry to go so. Took another 50 years for me to understand that a 19 yo medic is not going to save everyone. Now instead of stressing over the ones that were beyond help and viewing myself as a failure I try to remember the guys I did manage to save who spend their Christmas mornings with their grandchildren and maybe remember that medic guy who told them “million dollar wound, man, you’re going home!”
