The way I looked at it was if the pick developed into a Hronek level player would I be happy? Since it was a yes and he's around the same age as Pettersson the only valid reason for Canucks fans to be mad at them time depended on where the islanders ended and as soon as it was clear the pick was not a lottery pick the trade was good. The chemistry with Hughes has been the unexpected bonus that took the trade from decent to great.

I didn't get why Canucks fans complained about Hronek. I was complaining about losing him. His physical presence and position-oriented game are missed on Detroit's d-line. That said, Sandin-Pelikka looks like a worthy consolation so far in terms of creating a cup window timeline in 5 or so years.

Nice to see an Auckland hockey fan! I know there aren't a lot of you. I live in Canada and over the last couple of months I have been introducing an Auckland friend of mine to hockey. We've been watching live Canucks games together and he's loving it. He's just ordered his first NHL jersey (a Canucks TJ Miller). I've been a Canucks fan for over 40 years and now he's a Canucks fan, too. The timing is perfect to introduce him to the team and to hockey in general. I'm curious what's your favorite team and what got you into hockey (I'm assuming you're originally from NZ and not a Canadian transplant)? Cheers
@samwansbone279011 ай бұрын
@@ChristalBeerman What an awesome comment man. Intrestingly today, I saw an instagram story from someone I know (that's from and lives in Auckland) who was at the Canucks game against Tampa. Had no idea they were into hockey at all (though tbf I don't really know the person too well). My team is the LA Kings. In 2016 my Aunt brought back some LA Kings cards from America and gave them to me (as someone who loved sports back then and still do). This got me fascinated with the team (I had no clue about the recent Stanley Cup wins, I only really knew Gretzky and a few of the teams back then I believe) and so I started following the team for the 16/17 season (still remember hearing about Quick getting injured after the first game against SJ and being out for months). Didn't know too much about the team and the league in general (I still have no clue how I didn't know about Kopi back then) so it was more casual at the time. In 2017 I stopped following the NHL, mainly due to the lack of attention in NZ and the fact I was starting to get massively into football/soccer (I still am to this day but with other sports) but I did have squint memories of the Kings starting to enter a rebuild phase. Last year around August I decided to get back into the NHL (along with other American sports) just to fill some time and as I previously supported them, decided to go for LA again. Barely knew who any of the players were (aside from the obvious ones) or line changes rule but quickly fell in love with the team and haven't looked back. I've been really happy with how the Kings have gone this season (despite the losses to Winnipeg and Rangers recently) and do have a lot of confidence we can finally get out of the first round (don't want to become another Toronto lmao) so I'm really stoked right now. (Side note my Premier League, local football/soccer and Rugby League (I'm sure your Auckland friend can explain that to you) are all doing really well (or did well) this season and it's really helping me in what's been a challanging couple of months for me.)

Vancouver finding a viable veteran younger RHD was a pivotal bold move. He was seen as a defensive liability most of his time in Detroit, but his offensive abilities were never doubted. SY probably was wary about a new contract, it could not be signed with over a year left on his prior deal. ADeB also was probably rumored as unhappy with the Sens and probably requesting a move so SY wanted to spend that money towards acquiring that top flite forward instead. ASP is 9 points away from Victor Hedman's SHL dman points record in about 20 less games. Berggren more than likely has requested a trade

I can't say that your wrong and I am saying this as a lifelong Red Wings fan, but IMHO, the debate over who is better is a coin flip and there is no wrong answer. Orr had one more Norris Trophy, but Lidstrom played longer and I think that also goes in the debate and also he probably should have had more Norris Trophies, many voters didn't want to vote for a European. Once he got his first then those hesitant about voting for him changed their tune. Orr has a great resume and I can't say that your wrong, but I don't thing it's clear that one is definitely better than the other.

I respectfully disagree I personally would argue Lidstrom is the 2nd best defenseman, Bobby Orr won 8 straight Norris Trophies 3 Conn Smythes and to this day was the only defenseman in NHL history to win the Art Ross Trophy and he won it twice and he won the Hart three times, Won 2 cups, had a 46 goal season, had 6 100+ point seasons, was probably the fastest skater ever and I met someone who played against Bobby Orr and said he was amazing both offensively and defensively. He would be trying to score on them and when the other team had the puck he rush back with Mcdavid-like speed to defend. Also Lemieux didn't have longevity either so saying Bobby Orr isn't on the goats list because he didn't have longevity is a little unfair. Sorry to rant. Anyway, great video!
@redbeard640311 ай бұрын
I think the Lidstrom/Orr debate about whose the best defenseman is a coin flip, neither is wrong. Yeah Orr had one more Norris trophy, but I think Lidstrom should have gotten his first one earlier. At the time there was a bias against European players, they didn't want to vote for him until he actually won the award, then when he got his first award he seemed to be first or second every year. Having said that I am longtime Wings fan so I definitely have a bias.

Larkin looked like he was knocked out after Joseph hit him, *not* after Kelly hit him. Joseph may not have crosschecked Larkin, but he did hit him blindside, and both in the front and back of the head. It's hard for me to believe Joseph doesn't deserve a call from the league and some supplementary discipline.
@gimmick738911 ай бұрын
dude barely touched him
@aralornwolf314011 ай бұрын
Dylan Larkin was playing the puck just fine as Joseph was pushing on him... okay, his stick rose a bit too high and was pushing on across the neck. However, it was when Kelly, bracing for impact with him, had his hand smack into Larkin's neck was the moment he lost consciousness. Jospeh wasn't even paying attention to Larkin at that point as he was moving past Larkin, by pushing off him, to go after the player Larkin passed the puck to. This is clearly seen in Brian Sutters MD video in which he goes over how the injury happened, and what the injury may have been. As Joseph's only goal was to push Larkin off the puck -- remember, they were fighting for the puck in front of the net -- then looked away as soon as Larkin no longer had possession, Joseph had no _intent_ to injure, nor did he do anything that was reckless. Yes, 2 minute penalty for high sticking, cross checking, and/or roughing... but a lot of the times, the refs just ignore battles for the puck as grown men, some of whom are over 200 pounds, are pushing and shoving each other around, sometimes, they push on parts of the body they shouldn't.... The league only steps in when some did something to _intentionally_ injure a player or was so reckless in their actions that it caused an injury. Thus, to punish Joseph for this unfortunate incident, means they need to start punishing _everyone_ who accidentally high sticks a person in a scrum. How _many_ Red Wings have had high sticking penalties this year? How many suspensions do you want _them_ to have? For how many games? Well... be consistent and answer the questions. :)
@eliaminator231311 ай бұрын
it was Kelly coming in otherwise there should be some serious concern for Larkin continuing to play a contact sport because he's going to seriously get hurt on just a hit. Which nobody needs to see and Larkin doesn't need to ruin his health and potentially rest of his life over a sport

As a 50 point pace not even 50 point dman he wanted more than 70 point dman? Can I get a link? Cause this season he is getting the Towes and Hanafin contract comparables, which is from 7.5-8.5. I don't know how a career 40 point dman would be asking for 8.5m and you are just capping, he would be asking for that this year and he is on pace for 76 points.

Crosby started his career in the toughest era of hockey transitioning into a era of systemics but still dealing with the brutality of hard hitting defencemen and looser rules around headshots. Gretzky played in the high flying 80's where teams averaged like 6 goals a game. Lemieux IMO in the undisputed best to ever play the game. I thought the Wings fleeced the Canucks as well not sure Hronek keeps it up but so far both teams have to be happy although im sure the Wings would love to have Hronek rn but Im sure ASP when he comes over will become a great dman as well

Stamkos to Winnipeg if the Conner injury is really long term. Highly unlikely but would be huge if Chevy could swing it.

Stammmer to the rangers with money retained might happen. Depends on howlong Chyitl and Kakko will be out. They are saving massive cap

I think Canucks should be in on Berggren, also, we'll see how long the Hughes/Hronek experiment goes for

trades like this are underated... take thats 1st n 2nd round pick, what are the probabilities that either of them turn into something as good if not better than Hronek?...I mean red wings Hronek? 50/50 at best. this is a no brainer trade
