This day was a HUGE deal for the band. They were terrified of what the crowd reaction would be, and never thought that more than a couple hundred people would bother to show up. Their sucess here gave them a huge boost of confidence in their viabiity as an international band.

Great reaction. I guess if you liked Chas & Dave it made sense for you to go and see them rather than some unknown band from Japan - but I can't imagine Chas & Dave were the biggest draw for Sonisphere crowds. BABYMETAL were aware of the possibility/threats of things being thrown. Some small minded idiots who had seen 30 seconds of the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and (mistakenly) made up their minds BABYMETAL must be some sort of money making gimmick band weren't happy that they were playing at Sonisphere, they were even more upset to hear they would be on the main stage and they posted threats on social media of bottles being thrown and booing them off stage, but the vast majority of the people there didn't have a clue who they were. From back stage the girls couldn't see the crowd and were more worried nobody had come to see them and what they should do if there was nobody there - they walked on stage to see a sea of puzzled faces - hairy, tattooed metalheads (the typical UK crowd) wondering why three little Japanese girls in red tutus were on stage at one of the biggest metal festivals. I believe Su has said that as they walked on and saw all the puzzled faces she thought to herself "This will be fun. Let's knock it out of the park." They have spoken in interviews (even recently) about how they consider this one of their biggest milestones and it being the moment they felt accepted by the metal community and really began to believe their music could break the language and other barriers. Su-metal has described how the sea of puzzled faces they saw as they walked on stage changed to smiles as their set went on and how it went from just the front few rows jumping and joining in and looked like a wave running back through the crowd from front to back as more and more people followed suit.

Great reaction, thanks! Yes!! They just need a band and an audience to be amazing. They are probably the best live artist I've ever seen. Add a crazy stage, light and laser show, pyro, smoke and everything and it becomes one of the best live shows on Earth. Song's name ("Ijime, Dame, Zettai") means "Bullying, no , absolutely" or "No more bullying forever" as they officially translated. It's obviously an anti-bullying song and their actual second song, according to the live performances, premiered live in July 2011. They released it way later, in January 2013 probably because it's basically a straight power metal song and they had zero intention on getting pigeonholed in one genre. This is probably the most important moment in their entire history, being their first big stage outside Japan and performing in front of one of the most potentially hostile audiences as you mentioned. And they were totally aware of this. But they were actually worried that nobody showed up. But the result is crystal clear: walking off the stage while the crowd was chanting for more can be considered an epic win. Some call this "the Sonisphere miracle" but it's not. It's all about taking what you do seriously and blending genres and different styles with respect. The members are very aware of all this and even Su-metal has mentioned this in interviews. They rarely perform this song live today. I traveled 650 km each way just for the possibility that they did. It was totally worth it. 😁 Appreciate you watched it until the end. I know it's a little bit silly but we love their cute signature farewell. 🤘🦊

Babymetal is fripping awesome ! And yes, fans around the world were worried about the UK crowd. But talent was recognized. The reason why they look with confidence, was very well explained by Su-metal in an interview: she could see how during their performance and more rows of people, starting from the front where the most fans are would get involved, shouting, throwing up their fists, etc. So they knew they were busy conquering this crowd. And the funny part is: this was the festival's biggest crowd this early in the afternoon ever, lots of people were curious. I'm certain a lot of people came to see them fail ! And Babymetal also didn't know how many people came, so when Su-metal saw the big crowd, she said to herself: ohh, this is gonna be fun ! (and opportunity). So a bigger crowd just put more spirit into her, I think this shows something of her mindset, which a lot of people don't have. I guess it most be because she's always been in entertainment, from when she was a little kid, always in the spotlight. Supposedly Babymetal sold more merch than any other band at that Sonisphere festival weekend. Chas And Dave is the act I remember being mentioned in the audience interviews on KZbin by Louder Videos (Louder News): Babymetal: Hit Or Miss? 🙂

I love watching your Babymetal reactions, look forward to them, and when they pop up I want to skip out on work immediately to watch. I fell in love with the band from Road of Resistance (you reacted to recently), over the last few years I've watched hundreds of individual live performances by them, this is one of three times I've seen where Su-Metal breaks "character" even for a moment - at the very end when she waves to the crowd her joy is just breaking through and it makes the whole thing even better. Another is in Road of Resistance where she shouts "bring them on" or similar in japanese - likely because they were getting some negative articles written about them calling them a fad. The third is from a performance of a song "the One" where the entire audience of 50k+ lights up at the same moment and it catches her by surprise. Everything they do is excellent, I'm curious if you prefer to see more beautiful performances or more insane performances? (they are often both, but there are examples of completely beautiful and completely insane).

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 And my respectful greeting from BABYMETAL's homeland to the man in their second home who participated in Sonisphere Festival 2014 (even you did not witness them back then). The phrase "Dame Zettai (= No absolutely)" is originated from police campaign against illegal drugs which had started in 1960s. So this song implies that "Ijime (= bullying)" is considered as harmful and addictive as illegal drugs. We have to continue our efforts at home and in school (and in any society or organization or group in the world) to eliminate it. In this video, I love to see the excited crowd gradually turn into enthusiastic audience. When three girls started to speak some words in the interlude, loud cheers quickly subsided and the audience even tried to listen to what they were saying although the people could not understand our language. I am emotionally moved whenever I see that scene. People in the crowd became happy, so did Kami band, and I am sure that the three girls fell asleep very happily that night after the biggest event in their life in foreign county. This song was revived in January 2020 and BABYMETAL have performed many times since then with Su-Metal's matured voice and encouraging moves by Moa and Momoko. It was probably their message to the current world.

Excellent reaction and I did enjoy all of your anecdotes as well. You hit the nail on the head about their confidence especially given they were only 15 and 16 at the time. Imagine being young teenager girls dressed in tutus standing in front of that crowd. Compounding that, they had some technical issues as well, with Moa’s (I think) in ear monitor not working and Yui’s costume coming apart. I know that I would have been in the foetal position, twitching in the corner but their professionalism at such a young age is fantastic. The sheer talent they display demands respect. Their songs are great, their musicians are top tier and the girls are probably one of the hardest workers in music. I must have watched this performance 500 times now but I never fail to get a little emotional when the crowd erupts at the end. I always feel a huge sense of pride for them. Great reaction! This performance was awesome, wasn´t it? 😄Besides Su-Metal you had Yuimetal (the one with the damaged tutu, which she handled like a real pro!), and Moametal, the smol beauty with the sweetest dimples ever 😄 Yui and Moa are great singers, too, as well as Momo. You could react to "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! Moametal vers.", and "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! Momometal vers.", to hear yourself 😉 How could anyone NOT love them, when even the hardcore UK metalheads frikkin´ love them? BABYMETAL call the UK their second home, and there´s very much to it. Many important things happened for BABYMETAL in the UK. E.g., they were the first (!) Japanese band who did a headliner concert at Wembley Arena 😉 That was in 2016. GREAT concert, btw.! One of two occasions (so far) where they brought one of their huge stages overseas (the other one being the concert at The Forum LA in the U.S.) BABYMETAL´s choreography is designed to support the understanding of the song´s lyrics, so that non Japanese speakers as well get a grasp on what´s going on on the stage in front of them, what Su-Metal is singing. Regarding IDZ choreo, Yuimetal did a special move at their concert at the Saitama Super Arena in 2015 (the concert where "Road Of Resistance - Live in Japan" was recorded). She jumped right over Moametal during the "battle" choreo. The famous "Yuimetal jump". We believe she got a "never do that dangerous move ever again!" afterwards, as she never did it again, but it was amazing. I still wonder, where she got the energy from to do this after doing intense choreo for over an hour? And doing intense choreo afterwards, for the 3 song encore? These girls are athletes! And they put on amazing performances to amazing metal music, anytime and anywhere, and with just the stage, the Kamis, and themselves. ~60k UK metalheads couldn´t go wrong, could they? 😉

The way I understand it they weren’t that big at the time, even in Japan and the spot on the main stage was rather last minute after someone else pulled out. This was the end of their set and it looks like they realised by then that they had nailed it hence the level of confidence. Su even had her “don’t f**k with me” face on at the start!!! A couple of years ago, another reactor (it may have been Chief reacts, but I’m not sure) realised that the guy in the pit at the start who tried the back flip is his brother!!! "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" Background and release:- The single was first announced after the concert Legend "I" at Shibuya O-East on October 6, 2012. An early version of the song can be heard in a video uploaded to the band's official KZbin channel entitled "Babymetal - My First Heavy Metal in Tokyo 2012", which also features part of a live performance of "Iine!". On November 8, 2012, an official trailer for the single and accompanying music was uploaded to the band's official KZbin channel. The trailers, along with a live performance at Sonisphere Festival, subtitled the song as "No More Bullying" and "No More, Bullying, Forever", respectively. An interview with the producers of the band was published in the December issue of Marquee to promote the single's release in January. The single was released in four versions: a standard edition and three physical limited editions, "I", "D", and "Z". The DVDs included in the limited editions contain either footage of the music video for "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", or of a live performance by Babymetal. The single also had a promotional release to customers who purchased tickets to live performances of Legend "I", "D", or "Z". Unlike previous singles released under Juonbu Records, no songs from the single appeared on a Sakura Gakuin album, due to "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" having been already released the same school year. It's like I've said many times being big in your own country is one thing, being big internationally is a whole different thing. With this performance we get to see Su showing how happy she is near the end of the show. A rare thing back then. And the best anti Bullying song ever. Yui and Moa act out bullying until Su steps in and separated them. When Su says stop. You stop. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

Cheaper? Do you know how much they charge for a hotdog at festivals nowadays? 😜
@stevechevy33823 ай бұрын
@@melvinthinks my point exactly it was cheaper back then. When Babymetal started out you could have seen the in the mall for free in Japan. We all have to start some where. Babymetal earned their stripes by going out and performing .

Glad I was able to convince you to actually check out Babymetal as you're easily becoming a huge fan of theirs, and to think, you still have a lot of songs to experience. You've already gotten the usual history about the song and performance from Grington and Jakemuller so I won't inflate it even more. Though I may point out that in Japanese, Kami, is pronounced like Kah - Mee. I generally stick with their older stuff while getting started with Babymetal, but I feel like you would really enjoy Monochrome. Just do a favor and do both Live @ PIA Arena and the piano ver. on The First Take as a single video. You've mostly seen the original lineup for your reactions, which consists of Su-Metal, Moametal and Yuimetal. On Ratatata and for Monochrome, it will be the current lineup of Su-metal, Moametal and Momometal.

The thing that I love about this performance is they are singing in a language that the crowed doesn't understand about anti bulling and where some had threatened to throw bottles of piss at them and let them know they are not welcome to their sacred metal festival but low and behold Babymetal came out the champ, it's like the biggest fuck you to haters ever. The choreography you mention is the girl bullying each other until Su steps in to break it up, I'm sure most the audience had no idea that it was a song about anti-bullying.

Good reaction. This concert has several interesting anecdotes. 1.- When they planned to leave "the comfort of festivals in Asia to launch themselves into the West" they booked a performance on a secondary stage (about 5000 spectators), but due to the success they were having on their European tour (the tickets were practically sold at the time they were leaving) the organization decided to move them to the main stage (about 50,000 spectators) 2.- The viewers, it is estimated that 95% of them had never heard of them. SuMetal commented that before jumping on stage they were terrified for two reasons: that their style would not be liked and Western metalheads would consider it an offense and end up as you have well documented and, on the other hand, that they would go out and find a deserted place. Fortunately everything went well and today this is the concert, in my opinion, most important for any Western BM fan. 3- the producer of the Download festival saw them at this one and declared that they were very good, but that they had no place in his festival (2015), so they were banned. BabyMetal and Dragon Force had a very good relationship and, quite pissed off by that, they decided to join them in their performance, playing, I seem to remember, Gimme Chocolate. In 2016 they were headlining, I think. Lastly, I'm glad you noticed the strange dance they had. This was not something chaotic, but rather a reflection of the song, since it was about the scourge of bullying.

FYI - 2016 they most definitely weren't headlining Download Festival. They were third on the bill on Friday 😬 But thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the reaction 😊

Never regret seeing a great show. You didnt catch Babymetal then, but they still tour. There is still time to catch a show. I suggested Kagerou with kami band intro last time. I have another song that gives each band member a solo in the intro, this time the Kami Band. The song is Rhondo Of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God Intro. Much to the few (and growing fewer) but nonetheless very real remaining BABYMETAL haters' disappointment, BABYMETAL did have to grind their way to where they are. Before they became this mammoth of the metal and music scenes they had to work very very hard to prove themselves. In fact, many haters will say they're a manufactured band which were given massive opportunities and budget to grow but it couldn't be further from the truth. Any BM fan worth their salt will tell the tale of BM playing in food tents at local idol festivals and borrowing clothes from their relatives or teachers to perform in a relatively original costume. The only reason this band was given any shot at doing their thing was because it was already part of the budget of a larger idol group which could use it's internal budget to be a little creative in the art performed. No, the one thing that made them stand out isn't just that the concept is new, it's that it was taken VERY seriously by its members and everyone around them. Everybody went at it very professionally, poured their hearts and souls into it despite the fact it was never meant to be a big international thing that would enter the hall of fame of music. I've always said this concept would have never worked outside of a country like Japan. I can imagine this sort of thing to happen elsewhere, but not with this level of serious hard work commitment behind it. Any western attempt at this would've turned into a half assed joke and a quick fad. I think this is why BM had to face so much adversity in the west/internationally. People have their own cultural pre-conceptions of what this "should" be. And that's why many will never give them a chance. And some, when they do, will not buldge from their position because they hate to be proven wrong. But all this adversity has not only grew my admiration for them tenfolds, it also has given them tools to become better versions of themselves as years went by and they kept doing their thing and aspiring to find fresh takes on the metal genre. We're truly blessed that this exists.

I enjoyed reading this comment. Thank you. I will openly admit, that I was one of those ignorant and naive metalheads who thought they were a manufactured pop band pretending to sing over metal. But I am also more than happy to admit I was wrong 😊 I've only heard less than a handful of songs so far, and I'm purposefully holding back so I can make these reaction videos and share the experience with you all. But I also really want to binge all of their stuff! 😂 Have a great morning/afternoon/evening and thank you for watching 🤟

@@melvinthinks Haha! Well if I'm honest I have been enjoying watching new people's reactions to BABYMETAL for years now and I can confidentally say yours are some of the most enjoyable ones to watch in a long while. Your commentary is interesting and it's an added bonus if you go in a little skeptical ;) I understand about wanting to binge. If I have one advice, is to not space those reactions out too much. There's so much content, so many songs, so many different versions of these songs, so many different performances to the same song that it would literally take you forever to get a really global picture of what BABYMETAL is all about 😅. If you're also not against the idea, the BM community also enjoys watchalongs. There's no better experience than watching an entire concert in bluray quality. The best BM content will absolutely get shredded to bits in a copyright-hell environment like KZbin unfortunately. But that can wait until you've done more ofcourse. There's also a few interesting guides that go a little more in depth on the misconceptions around BABYMETAL's origins. Have a great time wherever you are as well! Looking forward to your journey down the fox hole ;)
