Have a fully tricked out pedalboard. In addition have about 20 “off-board” effects, just sitting in their boxes. None have see the light of day since Xmas 4 years ago when my wonderful wife splashed out on a Helix for me. I just can’t see putting up with the hassle, the patch cables, the batteries/power supplies, bending over between songs to adjust parameters and settings. Line 6 delivered a better mousetrap.it has infinitely more possibilities and is infinitely more fun to play. And when one takes into account that L6 NEVER charges for an update, no matter how many new toys and models we get with each release. One is sort of compelled to admit that the Helix is a real game changer for guitar players everywhere. Each new release is full of useful (and free!) surprises. By contrast, every time Presonus comes out with a major update to studio one, I’m compelled to fork over about $100 just to keep current. Not so with the helix. The updates are always included for free. Thanks line 6. !!

Well, I am not sure what your previous take on the Helix was and why you didn't think it was ALL that, but I can tell you as a 53 year old gearhead and 30 year guitarist that two pieces of kit have fundamentally changed my music life as a guitarist. One is the Thomas Blug AMP 1 and the second was the Helix. With my Line 6 G50 digital wireless from the guitar to the Helix, then into the Amp 1 I have one cable from the amp on my board to the 2x12 EVH horizontal cab on casters. THAT is my rig, and I am golden. Now I am contemplating the switch to the new Fractal FM9 board, but that's to be determined if it is superior to the Helix. Nice shop and Luke seems like a good dude. Strange not seeing Lee, but hell, change of venue is a good thing. Carry one mate.

I understand why Chaps might not liked the Helix in the early times of its release. It was definitely an incomplete product when compared to Fractal Audio Ax8 and the Kemper. This six years of constant new firmware development have improved the overall quality and features of the Helix. On the other hand, the end of life of the Helix is coming in the next few years because its DSP can't keep up with the release of its competitors like the Quad Cortex and the FM9. I believe that the Helix is now a great product... but just took too much time to become one. Line6 will have to develop the Helix' successor soon and improve many things (amp and effects availability, Wi-fi or Bluetooth connectivity, touch screen and virtual knobs, profiling, etc). Other than that, Fractal will eat their market share out with the new FM9.
@juancruzpompei3600
@juancruzpompei3600 2 жыл бұрын
I think they are doing it. Line 6 has always done the same. They release the product and it's actualizations. Then they let everybody in the business make their version while they are developing the new thing. Whilst competitors are trying to reach to them standards, they release the new thing and they always stay on top. The successor of the helix already exists and it's surely being developed. Things like this take time but surely they will be releasing the new thing in the next few years that will change the market again. Everyone of their products starting from the first modelling amp, the pod bean, the pod pedalboards version and whatelse, has been through the same process. Helix is as close as you can go of a real amp. QC, axfx, kemper, etc are good but the real deal always comes with line 6

I wonder if that is a real issue, doesn't most people use IRs anyway? (Even paid patches include IRs nowadays). Similar to guitar tuners in electric guitars, usually they get replaced for locking tuners so why bother making the guitar more expensive? Also, with the proper FRFR the Line 6 Cabs are decent, just make sure you tweak your global EQ

I'm sorry but that Chap's patch sounds like crap. It's not the Helix, it's the normal tendencies of most guitarist to think muddier and basier the sound, the better. It's almost never the case when it comes to mixing, and that was one of the most useless tone of all. I say all this as a guitarist and a Helix user myself, and I believe all guitarists should learn mixing for the very reason. And should listen to real sound engineers and the opinions of other instrumentalists. It was the mixing tutorials and my keyboardist that I learned that there are difference between the pleasent tone when noodling by yourself, and the usable and actually good tone for the whole band.

So I use the PC+ and love it (although I would have chosen the cheaper normal PowerCab knowing I wouldn't use any of the speaker models that comes in the PC+), why would I have better chosen one of these FRFR compared to the others in the market? I can't say I really understand the desire to have stereo on stage or IEM. I'm thinking there's more gigging musicians that only get a mono output choice out of FoH anyway. Techs normally don't have enough channels to host guitarists wanting stereo.....so why bother it sounding great to you, but mono to the audience. Heck if you have multiple guitarists, maybe you only get one side of the FoH panned in some cases. Digital all the way, less gear to haul around. IEM's with some stage ambience mics to mix in, awesome.

Quad Cortex. It can capture, so can do anything, but the bass section is great and has Darkglass pedals, it also has really pretty great mic pre’s, and compressors not just for guitar etc. Also plenty of inputs and outputs so can run guitar and mic at once etc

Don’t sleep on Headrush. I love my pedalboard and chose it over the Helix. Great piece of gear.

Same here! The amp models are definitely better than Helix...and that touch screen! 😎👌

@@goldtop362 same here except because of the reliability issues....I've gone over to the dark side. The HR is a breeze to program but the Helix is more "gutsy".

@@brianlebrun2382 not sure what you mean by reliability issues? I did a LOT of research before I took the plunge and I've found no evidence of reliability problems with the HeadRush reported, anywhere. Maybe software issues, earlier on? As to the Helix being more gutsy; I don't agree. Physically the HR is built like a bomb shelter...and tonally, I think the Helix sounds very brittle and bright, whereas the HR has a depth and warmth about it's sound...and the amp models are much better imo. Still, they're both great pieces of kit, at the end of the day...and it wouldn't do for us all to like the same thing or there wouldn't be enough to go around...and the price would sky rocket! 😆

@@goldtop362 we can agree to disagree on the sounds. I've had the HR for over 2 years and in just 2 weeks with the Helix not only myself but musicians I work with have heard the difference. So as I said we can agree to disagree. As far as reliability issues I'm talking about the dreaded Rainbow of Death. Complete failure of the Headrush to boot up. It's a well known issue and Headrush has been repairing them in and out of warranty. It's a design flaw. The USB connection has issues as well. A number of users have complained that the connection fails. I really didn't want to switch to the Helix because the HR is a great unit but I just got tired of holding my breath before the gig hoping it would boot up. It never failed me but as a working professional musician I wasn't taking the chance. Cheers!

@@brianlebrun2382 yes, of course whether you prefer the sounds of one unit over the other is completely subjective...there are plenty of people in both camps...and the Helix is a phenomenal piece of kit, no doubt about it. I could have gone for either unit but, at the end of the day, I just felt that the HR was more intuitive...and at my age, I need all the help I can get! 😄 I hadn't seen or heard anything about the issues with the HR, so I've done a little digging, online. It seems that, although the ROD and USB issues have been a problem in the past, it looks like they have been sorted. Didn't find any recent comments about them and, to be fair, I don't think they'd still be retailing for £750 if it was a major problem. I was lucky enough to pick one up that was just nine weeks old (still had the retailer ship date on the outer box label) so I'm not too worried. Cheers 😎👍

I went FRFR and have not looked back. Amazing sound linked to my helix LT and PC via USB. I use Focal alpha 80's and they sound great and very neutral. Bonus that thet can be used as amazing pc speakers for editing and gaming :)

Fulltone needs to get on with it and release more rack units. Their chorus is great. It would be awesome if they released some other stuff like delays, reverbs, preamps, power amps, etc. though you could throw together a game changer plasma distortion rack unit with the fulltone chorus, an eventide eclipse v4, a Mesa boogie rack amp or a kemper/fractal/helix along with a voodoo fx loop or radial switching gear. Hook everything up over midi and use a midi foot controller. To be honest minus the rack profilers/modelers it’s my dream to have a rack full of that kinda stuff on top of my collection of valve amps. Haha
