I'm also doing a double major in psych and computer science, lol. My reasoning is that I'm afraid I won't be able to find a good job with decent pay with a bachelors in psych. But it is a field that generally interests me, and I may or may not want to go to grad school to further my psychology education. I chose computer science as a major add on, because it's more employable. If you or Danielle have any advice on this strategy, I'd love to hear it.

I'm literally in the same exact position- when I transfer out of community college I'm planning to major in psychology (my main passion) and CS (I want the science and math skills required to deal with data in psychology and coding is a very important skill to learn regardless).

Fast forward to today and I finished all my courses for psychology, but i have not graduated yet because i added a minor because i was too scared to become unemployable. Now From watching this, I have been been on the fence about double majoring in computer science instead. This video is helping me off the fence and guiding me to that leap towards the double major. Notes: You don’t have to be impassioned by what you choose to study You can enjoy it, but you dont have to be like “wow this is passion for me” It’s fine to major in a more employable major, as long as you don’t hate it “You’re not passionate about being a doctor” You don’t have to have flaming passion for major If you really really hate your job you can drop it You dont have to have an existential crisis cause some days you dont like writing code It doesn’t have to be your life calling to do the job that you do It can enable you to do other things you like and enjoy your life

I have to disagree with your video. The decision to double major should be case by case. It can be useful for certain people in certain situations (I can see how your Linguistics and CS double major would be beneficial), but for others it just adds unnecessary stress and effort. It would be wiser for someone to have a part time job or internship and have a lighter class load to help boost their GPA. It all just depends.

Based on her cliche topics video though, we might have different client bases. >50% of the essays I’ve receive have been about immigration and >20% about non-immigration hardship. I can’t with confidence say I know another editor I would trust with those two topics. But if your essay falls outside of that, the Kath Path’s editors will probably do just fine. I'm like 2 semesters away from a BA in econ so heres my 2 cents. If you want to go to grad school for econ you probably want to get a lot of exposure to math. Also consider what you want to do with your degree. CS could make a good pair if you want to automate some shit. If you want to go into politics than poli sci might be good. Overall though try to get the best math skills you can.

Be careful. Psych degrees r one of those "not very useful when it comes to getting a career" degrees. For example, my cousin majored in it and shes a hostess and works for ASPCA. My assistant principle majored in psychology. He said it was useless and he went back for another major then grad school in guidance counseling. I feel like people go into psych thinking it could make them a good med school candidate but end up never pursuing med school. If u can afford a psych major, go right on ahead! But if it's gonna put u in debt then study it on ur own time. Remember, a career isn't always an end but a means, a means to get you economically stable enough to follow ur true passion. Same goes for creative writing. I'm not sure if it is good with setting a career, but if it's not, then u can learn to become an excellent writer on ur own time.

A degree in Economics isn't more advantageous than a Law degree. Plenty of students who finish College with a degree in Economics or Engineering go into Law. Any degree other than CS or Law needs a Masters/PhD to be competitive anyways.

Alain LeBlanc a law degree in America is a Juris Doctorate which requires three years of extra schooling, which comes to being around $100k - 190k For most people it would be easier to walk into a finance job with a degree in economics, then do the three extra years of schooling, take and pass the bar and find gainful employment as a lawyer. I am saying it would have been easier to get a degree in Economics and work at an investment bank or a management consulting firm at 22. Then go to school for three more years and get a job with similar pay at 25-26

My goal is to go law school for my JD, but I don’t know what major I should major in. I want a major that will still benefit me if I suddenly decide law school isn’t my thing. I was thinking about Economics or Finance but the thing is I realllllyyyy dislike those subjects. I don’t want to be stuck in a major I hate doing, but at the same time I know it’ll help me in the future. Originally, I was gonna major in Criminal Justice or Psychology but I realized they don’t really have the best employment rates. Right now I’m kind of thinking of majoring in Econ and minoring in philosophy or psychology, so that way even if my major isn’t what I’m passionate in, at least I have my minor to make up for that. Do you have any advice for me? I’m still a little unsure about my choice and I’ve been researching a lot on the internet about it but I want to hear someone with real experience.

Imo, majoring in smth just bcz you're intrested in the subject is pretty pointless (especially if you don't plan to work in that field).. why go through the stress of exams and curriculam when you can just read a book and get all the knowledge you need? You can also travel, join workshops, watch youtube videos.. etc.. College's primary goal is to get you started with a career that's why it's so expensive all around the world.. so I think people should choose their majors based on what they are good at.. what the job market currently needs and definetly the salary. College is an invesment for most people.. so invest wisely!!
@danielledupreez4 жыл бұрын
I’m saying people should major in both something interesting and something that the market currently needs. The majority of colleges in the US obligate you to take more than just classes within one major, so you will have to go through the stress of exams and curricula for extraneous classes anyway. Might as well form it into a major. You’re not paying extra.

Any degree will land you a job in your given degree. There are jobs available in every degree, some more lucrative than others. You will be successful in getting scholarships, grants if you have a passion for your chosen degree, the money and jobs will follow. The earned awards will follow. Most important is to follow your passion and obtain the highest level of education in that degree, it doesn't end with a Bachelor's degree. The most successful ppl earn Masters and PhDs in their field. Double degrees are for personal interest, they don't give you any more of an advantage at the Bachelors degree level.

@danielledupreez Жыл бұрын
Linguistics is observational, not prescriptive. A linguist would not describe “y’all” as a non-word except if they were debating that it’s a phrase rather than a word (what makes a word a word is a topic of debate in the field).

@TheTheode4 жыл бұрын
I'm taking physics and biochemistry and it's one of the most worth-it things I've ever done. Physics and Anthropology as far as I know don't really overlap much, but if you're interested in them then go for it, you'll be a more interesting and well-rounded person because of it. If you're worried about job prospects just learn some programming on the side or do a minor in it, but physics is a pretty hireable degree anyways. I'd definitely recommend a minor too if you have time for it. I've been able to do most of a math minor during the summer because those courses are a requirement for a lot of different programs. The first 2 years are the best for this because you may want a coop or internship in your junior and senior. Certainly worthwhile if you're interested in them, your interest will carry you through the busy work.

yes... math and engineering have similar classes but you might stay one more year. Biology and math are a bit hard to do together but it is possible. The general classes are the same for all. If you are doing pre-med, math people scored higher on pre-med exams than bio majors.

First of all there is no advantage to finishing a college degree early, you're fooling yourself if you think that. If you love both subjects equally then double major. If you are seeking to compliment a degree then major in that and minor in math. Honestly, whatever degree you choose you'll need a Masters degree to make yourself stand out, make a higher income.

I'm interested in Double majoring in Chemical and Mechanical engineering. I know they don't necessarily relate but they're two things I am extremely interested in. Also, I want to take an Aerospace engineering minor and that's a mechanical engineering minor (I'm a chemE student and don't plan on leaving it). So advice is appreciated.
