The Human Centipede franchise is the perfect example of a franchise that should have stopped after one movie. Call me crazy but the first movie I loved and have rewatched many times. Yes it is extremely disturbing and if you can not handle disturbing movies, don't even try it. But something about the way it was filmed/directed and the main character is just the right amount of creepy to give you the scare plus taking into account the first movie did not contain as much gore, just the right amount without showing too much detail of what had to be done. Also the initial concept of the movie was exciting and something unheard of but then it got a bit repetitive. The second one was so disturbing that it was just a big fat no and took it way too far. I had many moments where I had to pause it to take a few moments so that I didn't throw up every few minutes. Also something about the creepy guy in charge of it all is so disturbing that his character alone makes me feel uneasy without him having to do much else. The third one I didn't even bother watching because after hearing the plot I thought no, absolutely not. But first one, classic. Second one, please no. Third one, also no.

The cinematography in Requiem for a Dream was made specifically to simulate the feeling of being on the drugs and the feeling of suffering withdrawal symptoms. For example, in the scene of Harry and Tyrone in jail, the camera shakes every time one of them raises their voice and a high pitched noise is heard. These were meant to simulate sensory overload, which is one symptom that some drug addicts experience when they’re in withdrawal.

Requiem for a Dream is one of the best movies I've ever watched, but damn, it's a HARD ONE. Most of Aronofsky's movies leave you with a sense of numb helplessness. It sure left me in a deep sense of emotional distress, only by the themes and execution, and not gross imagery. Make sure you're in a stable state of mind before you strap in for that one, though.

I just finished watching it, and holy hell, is it disturbing, but appropriately so.

Requiem For a Dream is one of my favourite movies. Unbelievably sad and Ellen Burstyn as Sara Goldfarb is the best acting I have ever seen.

I feel like I watched "Requiem for a Dream" during my courses in high school at some point, I walked out of it before it ended, absolutely couldn't take it

This may be a lame tip, but if you are looking to get into heavier horror movies, I'd start by watching at least the first Saw. The first Saw is certainly gory, but honestly it isn't as bad as the entire franchise has a rep to be. There are a couple gory parts (someone (I'm sorry I forget his name) gets shot multiple times, a doctor who says excuse me way too many times saws off his own foot but it doesn't really show much) The rest of the movies do get worse, the second one is OK, but the third one is when it gets really gory (was not prepared for the beginning scene where he broke his own foot. Ouch.)

Doesn’t The Human Centipede 2 also end with the “it was all a dream” trope? It seems about par the course for that… Experience…

Never seen it but based off his description it might be a more bearable movie knowing that

No, it ends with him failing but it did really happen. He plans on doing it a second time too

Kind of shocked you didn't mention the best and most memorable part of Requiem for a Dream. That is the music. Well... The most famous music if you grew up in the early KZbin days and recall everyone and their mother used it for trailers.

man behind the sun seems really disturbing, the thing that makes it worse is that it is about real place called unit 731. I haven't seen the whole film yet.

Human Centipede 2 was beyond disgusting. Its like when you think of the most degenerate, despicable scenes possible. I cant even describe this movie, it has hardly any story. The 3rd human centipede was my favorite, thats more comedy for me. Its absolutely hilarious how Dieter Laser screams at everyone and anything.
