no but like, the most annoying thing about Little Mermaid 2 was how Melody had bullies. Im sorry but who bullies the next Queen... And Ariel just stood around and let it happen. She had 3 random ass civilians just pick on her child. And we know where Ariel came from, as if she wouldn't go over and be like "my dad will literally flood this kingdom, and my king husband has impaled a 30 foot Octopus witch with a boat". Why would 3 kids pick on the next Royal... it's social suicide and makes 0 sense.

best scene with the prince, hands down, is when his dad says he won't take another step down the stairs so he launches himself out the window efguipfxswa but I love that Anastasia grows and breaks away from her mother and finds her true love and the scene with the rotting pumpkin carriage was so well done and creepy when I was a kid. just, for a dtv sequel, they went off and I appreciates that about Disney

And I just love Anastasia’s redemption arc. It’s so cool to have the movie analyze her own insecurity of being the ugly stepsister and yearning for her own happily ever after. It’s a lot deeper, this plot, delving into who deserves love, and finding external love vs internal acceptance. And it all ties together, because even the body cloning is tied to that, thematically.

lol the part of Bambi 2 where he heard his mom, is supposed to be a hunter’s deer call. It’s vague calls like “I’m here”, with a female voice to attract the male deer rather than female, so that when the deer hear it, they follow to see why someone is calling out. Bambi just mistakes the call for his mom’s voice

Grew up with so many of these movies, knowing they were mostly trash, but watching them anyway. Consider yourself lucky that you somehow missed Tarzan and Jane. That's another 3 parter-totally-not-a-pilot-to-a-tv-show one. I was surprised to see the Atlantis one so high since I remember nothing from it, but I could see how if you had never seen the og movie, the basic world building and cool sci-fi atmosphere would make up for a lot that's lacking in the sequel. (Side note, you should totally check out Atlantis! It's a messy/imperfect film, but it's got a lot of things to like about it. It'd def make a cool KH world at some point.) LK2, Lilo and Stitch 2, and Cinderella 3 all being near the top is well-deserved. In general, I think your top 6 are actually decent movies overall. Like you said, they don't stack up when compared to their originals but they feel like they have the most love and effort put in. It's like a night and day difference when you look at most of these other movies.

At least Tarzan & Jane was based off an ACTUAL TV Show, The Legend of Tarzan, and not an unreleased one like all the ones present here (which is probably why it wasn’t included on this list). I remember liking the show as a kid but idk how well it’s aged. You definitely don’t hear about as much as the Little Mermaid or Aladdin TV shows. Agree with everything else you said, though.

What's messed up about Cinderella 3 was that at the ending, the Fairy Godmother DOESN'T change things back to the way they were, and just makes Cinderella and the prince restart their entire relationship. So their first year of marriage is just...GONE. This is basically Disney's version of Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

Ursula was originally meant to be Tritons sister which would make her Ariels aunt. I guess where suppose to assume Poseidon had an affair with an octopus and had Ursula and Morgana, because I don't think them having the same mother as Triton makes sense in the context of the second movie.

Mmmm, kinda surprised there was no mention about Lion King II having a villain that commits suicide. I mean, in the final cut it's a bit debatable, but you might wanna look for the unfinished extended version of Zira's demise. The few extra seconds of rough animation show that Zira not only blatantly refuses Kiara's help but has this deranged look in her eyes, even smiling as she says: "néver". And lets herself go with a smile on her face. They cut it out of course but you can still see her smile while she's falling. It's unnerving to say the least, and I understand they re edited it.

in the final cut it isn't suicide, they deliberately re-edited that because its content was a little too much for a kids movie (specifically a dtv sequel). they changed her expression as she's falling, in the original edit she is smiling but in the final cut she isnt. also, nuka's death is more brutal in the original edit too. when zira is cradling his head as he's dying, he smiles and says "well i finally got your attention now, didnt i? didnt i?" and then dies while smiling. the final cut had to remove that as well... cant exactly have little children coming away from the movie thinkkng they can get their parents' attention by putting themselves in mortal peril lol

There actually almost was an Aristocats 2, but Disney scrapped it. Same with Dumbo 2. I think in the sequel, the kittens were gonna be a bit older and Marie would get a love interest? I like to think the pipe organ did turn back to normal at the end, but he was a dead pile of severed limbs, and when the villagers found said severed limbs buried in the garden of Beast's Castle, that's what caused the French Revolution. Can Nala join Perdita and Lady's group for female characters who get shafted in the sequel? Since the prequel is Ariel's Beginning, and The Little Mermaid is in the middle, I propose we rename The Little Mermaid 2 to The Little Mermaid Rises. Maybe we could have a Bane Whale or something?

Even even worse, you are no longer part of your parents family, you're assimilated to your husband's family and if you're following this. Mulan would end her family line. And now you probably can understand why having a boy was preferred. Edit: if someone is interested Xiran Jay Zhao has a way better breaking down video on Mulan 2 than I can write about it.

I mean almost everyone, boy or girl, had an arranged marriage, who would these girls be marrying then lol. But yeah like Xiran Jay said Mulan’s line is already over but I feel like the reason no one really cares about the stakes of Mushu being demoted is cause the whole ancestors thing doesn’t make sense at all 💀 why is bringing their families ancestors tomb things together such a surprise when in the first movie both Mulan’s mom and dads families are in there. Also mushu deeds being forgotten cause Mulan leaves but if his worth to Mulan is so important why doesn’t he just go with her. The whole thing is so confusing.

My main takeaway from seeing clips for all these movies in release order was that the animation for the later sequels was usually shockingly good, especially considering they released around the time Disney decided to stop making theatrical films with traditional animation. Bambi II is super forgettable, but its animation alone holds up more in 2022 than basically any CGI film that released in its same year (2006) except maybe Cars, and that includes much more expensive films that were lauded as technical marvels at the time yet drifted into the uncanny valley as they aged like Happy Feet or Monster House. The animators and artists assigned to these mediocre cash-grabs often clearly tried a lot harder than they probably got credit by Disney for, and I respect that

My best guess is the writers looked at the first movie and interpreted her character as a woman who gets by in life through hard work and thinks more considerately of others because she knows what it's like to be abused relentless and she doesn't want others to be treated that way. Though the 2nd movie does so little with this that it all comes through as a nice girl adjusting to a different kind of lifestyle. If they went with a whole film based on the first story and had it transition to the third story while scrapping the 2nd story there'd be more time to explore this character's personality, but hey, it's Cinderella 2. I'd personally rank Treasure Planet higher between the two, but Atlantis is quite good, and I wish Disney did more movies in these veins. -Wait, in bambi, the deer call that sounds like Bambi's mom calling for him, was that not in the original? I remember this exact scene so clearly because it was kind of disturbing. I thought it was in the original lol -around Bambi 2, Brother Bear 2, Fox and the Hound 2, it seems like you start getting more crabby about these movies lol. I suspect the movie marathon was wearing thin on you maybe just a little bit. -Cinderella 3, prince charming jumping out the window will never get old lol. These calls are usually replicating the sounds of a female deer to attract bucks, but the movie is implying that Bambi heard this female deer sound and thought it was his mother. That's why it's "man's tricks" from the deer POV b/c they don't understand how the hunters replicate it.

Disney isn't too bad when it comes to false copyright claims. It's the one good thing that came out of them buying FOX.

If I could male an argument for the Cinderella sequels, swap out Anastasia for Drizella in the last sequel, keep Anastasia with the Baker boyfriend from the second, and have Drizella go through the redemption arc.

hot take on the little mermaid 2, i think it actually makes sense that ariel would turn into her father, like alot of people do when they grow up and have kids without realizing it. i think it also makes sense that she wouldnt tell her about being a fish because shes afraid melody would choose the ocean, and destroy what she worked really hard to get, a family and life on land. its definitely not a perfect movie or particularly good, but ariel's behavior makes sense to me

Honestly, after the glut of live-action Disney remakes we've had, I would happily go back to the days of the disney sequels. Sure, most of them were mediocre at best, but at least they were trying to do something different and add on to the original films instead of just serving up the CGI-saturated microwaved leftovers of our nostalgia.

Little Mermaid 2 is one of my nostalgia fave's. Sure it doenst hold a candle to the original story wise. But at least two of the songs, the initial "down to the sea" sequence and the "for a moment" songs, I would say are just as good as some songs in the original movie. I still have those songs on my phone to this day. And yeah the last song is a bop as well. Especially the part where Melody and Ariel finally sing in harmony together instead of singing the same song but separate music like in "for a moment" is lovely. I wish they sang together longer.

Holy fuck, I didn't know BatB Enchanted Christmas even existed, but the footage of that organ awakened some very deep memories I didn't even know I had. That damn thing must've traumatized me so bad my brain just completely erased that memory. Now I must rewatch it someday, out of sheer morbid interest.

It's really strangely endearing how Pat has no issues with how much he loves his father, even giving him a nickname. Kind of unusual for the modern day. Wish I had a dad...
