The ballroom dance scene is one of my favorite scenes in any movie. Everything about it is perfect. The music, the lighting, the colors, the dancing itself, the romance, the characters, and the story. Everything just comes together in this beautiful moment. You can feel all of the emotions without either character speaking. Just the way they look at each other. It's breathtaking. I never get tired of this scene. The telenovela has a bunch of references in one: The female soap star “Angela” (so named for Angela Lansbury, who voiced Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast) is played by Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle. “Angela” is arguing with a man named “Jerry” (Jerry Orbach voiced Lumiere) because she’s having an affair with a man named “Ogden” (David Ogden Stiers voiced Cogsworth). I love all the references and trivia tidbits everyone is putting in about the movie, but only one person (that I’ve noticed so far) gives trivia about the movie’s story. I’ll give you a second one, which is actually food for thought. In the animated world, we see Giselle building her true love, who is in a blue royal outfit, has blue eyes, black hair, and no lips. Note that there are no objects that she can find to resemble his lips. The prince she meets isn’t wearing any blue, even though he has blue eyes. She enters our world and bumps into someone who has black hair and blue eyes. After she and McDreamy argued, she realized she has feelings for him, and that he resembles her statue. When she sees him at the ball, she notices his royal outfit. Huge clue as to why she couldn’t find the right thing for her statue’s lips is because he was too realistic. No animated item would ever suit for his lips. Her true love was in our real world this whole time. The reason Nancy let Robert kiss her was because she realized the two of them would never truly be happy together. She felt that in the kiss they had at the end of Jon’s song “So Close.” She knew she and Robert were not meant to be together and accepted. She said “it’s okay,” because she understood why he was acting that way. She gave up her future with him to let him be with the woman he truly loves.

The sheer number of self-references Disney put in this film is mind-boggling. Dempsey's assistant is the voice of Ariel. The two old women at the ball at the end are the voices of Aurora and Cinderella. The mom with all the kids, is the voice of Pocahontas. The soap opera couple on TV... belle and beast's voice actors. The Grand Duke hotel is a reference to Cinderella again. The name of the pizzaria is the one from Lady and the Tramp. Sorry, but Fiona was referencing Disney with her whole singing thing. Cinderella, Snow White, they all did that LONG before Shrek. The list goes on and on. It's a little ridiculous how overboard and tongue-in-cheek they went on this one. But it works really well. Amazing cast. Great songs. They just went hard knowing full well exactly what the movie was and not caring.

In the opening scenes, I feel like I'm picking up some references to other famous movies and their stories, especially Disney. (You already mentioned Fiona from Shrek singing with animals). (You already mentioned Anna from Frozen and the duet with the first Prince). There is the sorceress who is feisty and sassy with a temper, much like Hades from Hercules. There is the talking animal companions like Cinderella and her mice friends. There's the sorceress, again, disguising herself as an old lady offering a poisoned apple like in Snow White. (You mentioned the Elf references). . . . etc. Anyway, you get the idea. I think this movie was partly meant to be a fairy tale spoof sort of fairy tale story, much like The Princess Bride.
