The diary scene was the final straw for me with this show, I hate watched it like everyone else, but after that I couldn't. As someone who struggles with depression, and anxiety my journal is my safe space, and to have it read out loud would destroy me. It was an incredibly cruel scene that hit home for me in a way a lot of other media hasn't. It just goes to show how sadistic the writers of this show were, and how awful and cruel they are.

how to fix this show in three simple steps: 1) first episode of season two is focused in scooby, where he tries to wake up everyone from a evil machine thingy from evil guy. 2) Evil guy explains that the machine amplifies the negative aspects of everyone personalities and make them act in a way were they are they worst posible. 3) scooby manages to wake them up and the rest of the season is focused in every character of the gang thriying to cope with the reality of the machine and their worst traits.

i was going in the show with all the hate and negative reviews for the first few episodes. and i continued hate watching it. but then in one episode, dont remember which one, "the show" (the characters) pointed out that velma is toxic and everything she is saying, about white people, men and other stuff is abusive and not ok. that means that the writers and by extent Mindy are aware of what they are doing. from that point i could enjoy the show, because now i knew they weren't just trying to be woke, but it was the point to make her unlikable and to feel sorry for the other characters. i think a lot of people are missing this, because its not in the first 2-3 episodes or in general reviewers aren't pointing it out, because its not the cool thing to do. dont get me wrong im not in love with the show, it just made me realize that i shouldn't always believe what everyone is saying, before actually seeing or hearing about it myself.

Let's tone the psychoanalysis down a bit, eh. It's been pointed out in plenty of places but apparently people are just dead set on this misinformation. Mindy *did not* write the show. In fact, in the writing credits for the show, she's not credited for writing in any of the episodes. She's also not the creator of the show. Charlie Grandy was (he also was the main writer). So while I'm sure Mindy had some creative influence on the show, it was not made by her or written by her, so let's slow our roll on the ass pull assumptions.

God they even make already existing tropes way more problematic! For eg, the whole 'let's break them up' trope tends to be because that person has feelings for someone in the relationship. It's tied to complex feelings of love, jealousy, missed chances and all that. Despite it being a red flag, you can still understand and empathise with the character. Why am I not surprised that with Velma being the character involved, any trope is made 1000 times worse.

When you watch this you see that at every point they had the opportunity to NOT choose to insert a specific joke or make a character behave like an asshole, and yet they made the worst possible choice. It actually has some potential, there are some storytelling juices flowing that could work, some plot points are worth expanding on (like Velma's relationship with... ehh... Norville). This show is the exact polar opposite of South Park South Park is one of the most offensive shows out there, yet it does a marvelous job of making fun of EVERYBODY and making it fair. It doesn't feel offensive because it's not making fun of any group directly but makes fun of the societal portrayals of it, which ironically makes each of the characters fit in more. Every character is South Park is a satire representation of a group from society and while each character does have incredibly lows, they also have highs that highlight the uniqueness of that group. Let's take Cartman as an example. He represents the spoiled individuals of society. He's fat, evil, and tries to get whatever he wants through despicable means because he hates being honest. Yet he's one of the most beloved characters on the show because he does have moments where he is shown as a likeable character through the strong bonds he has with his friends and community, and he does have moments where he changes as a person and shows a potential to be better than his negative traits. Velma does the same thing, but at a much worse level. It makes fun of everyone in an incredibly offensive and just crude way. The show doesn't stop to highlight something from any group, doesn't stop to have that group do something positive, it just makes every group and representation look and feel like terrible people. Take Norville, for example. He is supposed to represent toxic masculinity or something like that, I think. Throughout the entire show, he is creepy, overbearing, and literally the butt of every joke. He feels like an irredeemable, sad scumbag who's never going to stop chasing Velma and never realize what he's doing. If this were South Park, an episode might end with him realizing that he's been a bit of a creep to Velma and apologize. But since this is Velma, he will continue being the bottom of the barrel character that will never be redeemed. So he feels incredibly offensive to anyone that might be remotely like him, because he has such a broad spectrum to represent. It also doesn't help that Velma is using established characters that are essentially being used and ripped apart, while South Park can do anything they want with their original characters and face almost no backlash from it.
