What is your favorite Shawn Levy film? Let me know!
@TheAnimationFanatic

Definitely Deadpool and Wolverine. I enjoy most of Shawn Levy’s films. Yes, he doesn’t make the greatest films of all time, but I find most of his movies really enjoyable. Mostly due to great acting and (especially now) great direction. Twitter might see him as the death of cinema, I see him as an enjoyable filmmaker.

I think it’s easy to write him off if you only see a few of his films but yeah I think he’s way more talented than people give him credit for!

Night at the Museum was my favorite childhood film. I had the DVD and it was the only one I had in the car and I’ve probably seen it over 30 times. I love that movie mate!

Deadpool & Wolverine was great but it’s not The Pink Panther (2006) so there’s that.

He’s not the best director in the world (except for those stranger things episodes my god they are so good), but he built a good reputation as a reliable and good crowd pleaser director which sells tickets and gets views. He’s very reliable and good at management so I see why he’s always getting work and I respect that.

Big Fat Liar is perhaps the only kids film that I can watch as an adult and enjoy it the exact same way. Shockingly good, and legitimately funny, which is uncharacteristic of Schneider’s writing. I also think Giamatti was swinging for the fences at this point, he straight up killed it.

4/10 for Real Steel. Real Steel was my jam as a kid. I wanted a Noisy Boy action figure so bad. That is a cruel score. 6-7/ at least.

Those "okay" movies made my childhood more fun, this type of criticism reminds me of YMS. If it's not an Oscar/Golden Globe nominated movie, it's just "average" or "dull". I mean giving Cheaper By The Dozen a 5/10 sounds so cynical

He feels like the Anti-Snyder. In the sense that so many of their personal directoral qualities match (clearly competent, apparently really nice work-relations, reuses actors, somehow draws in loads of viewers, etc), but their film styles are SO different. [*note i do not dislike Snyder] Also, never realized he did Big Fat Liar & Cheaper By The Dozen, I loved those as a kid.

A brave KZbinr willing to do what no one else will do. Literally. Since he’s a journeyman filmmaker who pretty much exclusively does family films, he’s seen as boring. Shawn Levy is probably one of the first directors I ever heard of just by seeing his name on DVDs. Truly a unique director ranking video

You gotta define generic before throwing that label around so much. How the hell is a movie about Rock-em-Sock-em Robots generic?
@IamT-Rex
@IamT-Rex 5 ай бұрын
I meant the formulaic script was generic should have been more specific since the robots are easily the coolest part!
@richardbolas
@richardbolas 5 ай бұрын
basically follows the same formula, like when it comes to his input, like yeah rock em sock em robots are dope but he probably didn’t write the script, his style is what most people feel is generic, basically film bros like new stuff to be tried in movies, which is fair enough when you are watching like hundreds of movies a year

He's going to be one the great unsung directors of the time - like John Badham (another guy whose filmography is filled with, "oh yeah? I remember that! I loved it! What would it be like now?" still darned watchable movies). So many of these movies I hadn't paid much attention to at the time, just, "Yeah, let's just have a go, see how... oh MY! What FUN!" Like, I really, really liked Real Steel. Generic? Maybe. Original? Well, it was to me, cos I didn't know about the fighting robots game by Ideal. What grabbed me with all of them was that they just flow onto the screen, doing exactly what they're supposed to do. If he ends up being a MCU stable director, good for him; and for us, too - he doesn't do duds. A particular movie might not be your bag, but if you're dragged to it, you'll still have a good time. We need more of that sort of thing. Now, if only we could get Wes Anderson to write one of HIS typical movies, THEN give the script to Shawn and let him go to town. THAT would be like the difference between 2001 and 2010... ...and guess which on I think's the better movie, and why...

I clicked on this EXCLUSIVELY to find out if I'm the only person on the planet who remembers and loves This is Where I Leave You. I saw the film when it released to home media back in 2014 (as I was 17 and was only starting to get into dramas instead of watching Transformers over and over) and the film, among other things in my life at the time, really kick-started my love for films and film-making. It's got issues, I agree 7/10 but that nostalgia and the soundtrack bump it up to 9 for me.

I’m surprised free guy is praised so much in this, or that there’s really nothing negative said about it at least. I didn’t see the Adam project but I’ve heard they’re both about the same in quality and free guy was definitely one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a minute. It was my last straw with Ryan Reynolds in his REALLY bad movie streak (until I saw Deadpool and Wolverine, my mind has changed back now). But it’s like a 1/10 for me. Super boring, the jokes all fall flat, and a reeeaaaally lazy script
