In arranged marriages, they don't let the couple see each other until the actual wedding for fear they'd chicken out beforehand. That's where the "bad luck to see each other before the wedding" superstition comes from.

Fun fact: this movies stop motion animation is so good, people were convinced it was actually CGI. And Tim Burton was super offended by this, because he's proud of the art of stop motion, so when he made Frankenweenie, he really held back on it ON PURPOSE so they could tell it was stop motion.

I heard Tim Burton tried to sell this move concept to Disney just like he did with The Nightmare Before Christmas but they refused it because they didn´t like the idea of a sweet and innocent lady falling in love at first sight and being stabbed in the back by the person she thought she loved, but then 9 years later they did that with Frozen

The most reasonable theory I have for Emily’s cause of death is that he knocked her out, thought she was dead and buried her. Only for the poor girl to wake up in her own grave.

I think it's what happened because it's visible on her forehead. But I also think she's not dead since long because it takes time for a corpse to become an entire skeleton (one or two years if I'm not wrong) or maybe the snow made it slowly
@arianaink100
@arianaink100 11 ай бұрын
Few facts about her: 1) the story is based off of Jewish folklore (think nymph/woman gets mistreated turned into a reed then that reed stabs the guy little more intense then the Greek/Roman versions) 2) there’s a likely hood she was strangled from behind as that’s why she’s blue, there’s a theory she’s hit over the head from behind so she doesn’t see him. Or that she froze to death. The clothing isn’t thermal it’s thin if she was knocked out and left she could have frozen to death during the night or after a rainfall (both likely in cold England) She’s half skeleton because he DIDNT bury her, she fell hard and fast. He left her there. That’s why she’s on the surface near the tree if anything he proper her against it. The side that was upturned to the sky was her left side meaning the right side was against the ground and sunk in over time. While the left had more surface area and exposure to just rot away.

@arianaink100
@arianaink100 9 ай бұрын
@@lilhedgehog8576 from what I could tell it’s been several years sorry to say but leaves do fall in the woods - they create an insulation layer with a lot of moisture and a lot of insects which over the winter and spring biodegrade everything in the leaf piles under the snow. So in spring/summer you don’t see leaves you just see grass right. they decay and dirt is the result (nitrogen rich dirt tbh) and grass is the fastest roots which then poke through the new soil (and why some grass species have 9ft-13ft deep roots, they’re constantly growing up.) Besides animals and insects rigor mortis is a thing and bodies will be stuck in whatever way they fall. As we know she was engaged at the time she was asked to meet by the old oak tree - she met a man late at night - and then it went blacks and when she woke up her jewels were missing and her heart was bust (when you have an engagement you do hand them a ring - but if you are robbing someone you’d steal the ring back meaning he’d take all the riches she had brought with her and removed the evidence that he tried to engage with her or knew her at all. Her hands sticking up because he ripped the ring off of her hand. She had gloves on but not on her ring fingered hand that was pulled off at some point (probably when trying to take the ring off her hand as traditionally rings were worn over the gloves back then. Her ring finger isn’t cut off so she didn’t bloat before then/become so stiff but her hand wasn’t able to fall back down to the ground and her glove and ring was removed. That area of skin also decayed away the fastest as it was exposed not only out of the snow but to everything in nature while the rest of her was buried.) It’s like 9 years that she’s been buried. (What’s his name is in his 30’s he’s a fully grown man who attempted this when he was younger and poorer and due to its ‘success’ with Emily he tried again after he money ran out - it took him nearly 10 years to being poor again and looking for a new ‘bride’. When he does search for one he finds Victoria who’s in her early 20s we can assume from Emily that she was the same age range and that What’s his face would have perpetually have gone for women that age regardless of his own he could be 60 and dwindling in riches only to marry a 20 smt year old to then kill them and steal their money. We don’t know how many times he’s done this sceme we do know that Emily was the first we know of and in the same local area. So he’s either moving around for years at a time or many people would see him remarrying these young women who suddenly die randomly young and he lives on in riches.

@lasmirandadennsiewillja9435 11 ай бұрын
@@a.g.demada5263 I think it's more metaphorical than actually moving on to some other place. In the land of the dead, there are so many dead folks from many different times and regions, and they are all having a great time, it doesn't look like anyone is waiting or even wanting to move on to some other place. Even the coachman is like, "Oh, guess I'm dead now, well, that's nice here, thanks for the beer." I mean, what's the dog waiting for? Or the old wise guy? When Victor suggests visiting his parents, Emily instantly replies, "Great, where are they buried?" It implies if someone's dead, they hang around somewhere and it's possible to visit them as long as you know where. Otherwise, she'd have said something like, "...unless they've moved on." Moving on and finding eternal peace at yet another place is never mentioned or implied as the final, ultimate goal or happy end. I think the end means she not only accepts the injustice of her fate as a final fact, but also lets go of her identity as "Corpse Bride" and returns to the land of the dead as Emily. In a way, Victor and Victoria get the classic happily ever after, and Emily gets a happily ever afterlife. I suppose they left the ending intentionally open to interpretation but it would have been nice if they had given us something that hints at an answer that makes sense in the context of the established story universe. Or if there had been a short scene of her returning to the bar to drink with the others, in a repurposed wedding dress that now looks casual (I mean, she's friends with the spiders who seem to be skilled tailors, it would make sense).

it's wonderful that they did it on purpose!! it's a beautiful parallel to show how the land of the living can often feel gloomy, unexciting, suffocationg, and like you're in a living death. but the land of the dead is a place for those to create new a "life". since there's nothing to but accept the fact that their life on earth is over, they find comfort, solace, and even joy in the new family they've curated down below. when i was younger, i was scared of death, but after watching this movie, it made me think that maybe death isn't a full stop, but instead, the start of something new and possibly even better.

12:51 - No, actually; he’s doing it because he has nothing more to hope or live for himself, so therefore he figures he might as well stay and at least try to make Emily happy, after all she has been through. -Victor means well, he isn’t selfish, just socially awkward and clumsy. In his own heartbreak, he is trying to extend a kindness. And much to his credit, he is prepared to keep his word, even at the cost of giving up an unexpected second chance to wed the girl of his dreams. 16:19 - Emily is amazing. She deserves the world. But… don’t entirely lose sight of the fact that she has basically been holding Victor hostage up until now. Stalkerishly obsessing over (as you aptly put it) the _idea of_ him, rather than actually himself. And as far as underrated characters, can we talk about Victoria? The way she fights tooth and nail to help Victor, or try to get him some help; and her telling Lord Bumpkis that there is no money? Come on, this is NOT the bland boring little nobody everyone writes her off as! Emily is not underrated; everyone loves her- deservedly so!- and she is the title character, after all. But hardly anyone sees Victoria, who is equally as amazing, in her own way.

But then how would she have wound up buried in the forest? Plus, if Lord Burkis _had_ left her alive, she would've run into town and alerted the authorities that he robbed her blind. If he'd planned for that to happen he would've taken the money and run away as far as he could. But he didn't run from the town. He still lives there in the movie's present day. He didn't run because he finished the job and buried her himself so that no one could ever convict him. He even had the foresight to woo her without her parents' knowing. He kept their relationship a secret from everyone so that no one could ever even tie Burkis to Emily's disappearance because nobody knew they had any association at all.

There's a theory that Emily and Victoria were sisters; and the reason Victoria's family is broke was because Emily took away all their riches to elope with Lord Barkis. He killed Emily, took away the riches, and vanished into thin air -- only to come back to do it again with Emily hoping to get rich again with the second sister. Even if it didn't turn out to be true, I think it's a very solid theory and very much like it :)

This Movie has a special place in my Heart. It was the first movie I borrowed from my local library. I forgot to give it back without watching it and had to pay 4 euros Penalty feea after that I searched for the movie everywhere because I really wanted to watch it. I found it again after 2 years and I loved it. The library somehow didn't have it anymore after that.

I love this movie, even when I was a child I was obsessed with it, although back then I didn’t fully understood what was going on. Is a beautiful movie. I love Emily and it was really sad what happened to her. She was reaching for something before dying, but is not necessary that she was buried alive, although is a good theory. Some people believe she was knocked out and left exposed, rain made the soil soft and started to swallow her corpse. Others said that she has been spying on Victor and put herself like that for the proposal. There are many theories. But yeah, she being knocked out with a blunt hit, left for dead, being buried while unconscious, waking up and trying to get out but failing to do so would explain the hand reaching out. Although he probably didn’t buried her deep enough. Some people believe Victor and Emily were soulmates, but unfortunately met too late.

The chaperone thing. Back then it was very inappropriate for a man and a woman, to be alone together, even when they are supposed to be getting married. So Victoria needs a chaperone to make sure nothing in impure happens to the bride.
