Magnus is building a body of work that will rival any GM in history. I believe that only Magnus can stop Magnus. If his motivation continues we may indeed see the greatest chess player of all time. All he needs is a winning streak to rival Fischer’s or Steinitz or a crushing defeat of his next world championship opponent. It’s close for sure. Fischer, Kasparov, Morphy, Capablanca, Alekhine etal. We are seeing magnificence in our lifetime, not reading about it in a history book.All subjective of course but very strong arguments indeed.
@leerobbo92
@leerobbo92 5 жыл бұрын
Ding "only" won 29/100 games. Liren didn't win many tournaments during his streak, and a lot of his games weren't in super tournaments (In fact, the only super tournament he did win during that time was the Shenzhen Masters, where his winning streak was actually snapped by MVL). Carlsen's currently on 58 games unbeaten, he's already got 32 wins in that time, and he's won 16/30 games in 2019 alone. The streak that Carlsen is currently on is so much more impressive, not least because he's done it across 4 super-tournaments, all 4 of which he's won outright against really strong fields. His performance rating in the first 4 months of the 2019 was, before this game, 2925: we haven't seen anyone this far ahead of the field since Kasparov, and the standard is so much higher now than it was in the 90's/ early 00's. I personally think that what Magnus is doing against the current standard of player is just insane. No one's ever had to deal with this level of chess before, yet he's been world number one for some 7-8 years now, and his bullet and blitz is absolutely in a league of its own (which for me indicates that his natural chess ability is just so much stronger than anyone, period, since that prevents an over-reliance on opening preparation). And if he keeps up his current level of play, we'll be looking at Fischer and Kasparov levels of domination. His live rating is currently higher than his rapid rating, which is absolutely crazy.

@kasparov9 5 жыл бұрын
He does not need a streak like Fischer's since Fisher didn't achieve anywhere close to what Carlsen has already done. Carlsen and Kasparov are way ahead of everyone in terms of dominance and achievement.

Magnus is already one of the greatest players of all time. Its truly amazing to see him play these games against the strongest of opposition and totally crushing the field. I think that everyone has his/hers favorite player (Fischer, Capablanca, Kasparov, Morphy, Alekhine etc.), but Magnus is certainly among those legends. Comparing eras is impossible, we can only look for the best in every era. And Carlsen is certainly the best of this era, no doubt.

Hi,. Nice game. I enjoy all your videos with your commentary. Keep up the good work. I have one suggestion though.. although you may have a different view..can you also revert the board towards whoever is winning. For eg if black is winning then put the black pieces on the viewing side, it helps more in understanding the winning moves and strategies. However..you may have your own reason for keeping it the way it is right now. Keep up the good work buddy.

Peter is a rare breed of GM. He plays the game out of pure joy. He rarely gets angry (if ever) and always shows utmost respect to his opponents. I've seen him win games and in the press conference he comments it so, that it looks more like a luck-win rather than his own skill. I'm pretty sure he does that out of pure heart for the opponent. As I said... There ain't many GMs with such attitude in the history of chess. Very bright personality as well - calm, intelligent, with a nice sense of humor and self-irony... A man of the new age so to say... Win-loss he knows it's all part of the game. He doesn't put too much emotion torturing himself, just goes on and tries to do his best every single time. Example to follow - both in chess and life.

I watched this match today live in baden baden. Magnus entered like a bad ass, didn't give a shit about nobody and just looked at the chess board. I didn't like the fact that the announcement and player introduction was done completely in German considering this is a world tournament. And when he introduced magnus, magnus didn't even look at him and just looked at the board and I just loved it. Meanwhile Anand came and caruana and Anand was talking with svidler and it very nice to see all of them in flesh and blood. And magnus played and the public was awed including me and the end game was too ruthless and just like that it finished with 45/46 min still in clock for magnus and svidler getting checkmated while his queen looked completely helpless. Not to mention svidler had less than a min before getting checkmated. Such a dominant game by magnus against svidler was just unreal. It was the best day and experience of my life and we should really feel lucky that we are living in the era of carlsen. I was disappointed with the draw by Anand and the game finished very fast with an opposite bishop end game but magnus just made my day. Also keymer played not that great as he did with carlsen caruana abs Meier and it was anther disappointment but the kid is just 14, so it was again a pleasure for me to watch this kid challenge these legends

Spoiler: According to tiebreaker criteria Magnus Carlsen is already the winner (1st tiebreaker is number of wins). I like the way Peter Svidlet allowed himself a quick and funny end for this game 3:), something they both will remember. He's such a classy player. Also both commentators were really impressed by the performance and couldn't help to remind Magnus that it's pretty scary to see him play at this level while he feels tired. What would his performance be when he's feeling ok 3:)

I think many people will enjoy the live video of Carlsen's checkmate against Svidler. Here is the link (to the last few moves): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZDJdJ6mjpuXrpo When Carlsen takes the g3 pawn, you see a slight smirk on Svidler's face. He knows what's coming. Full smile for each following move. Absolute class to let it play out and a pure joy to be able to watch it - both the sensational checkmate and, perhaps, even more impressive sportsmanship to let it appear on the board.
