There’s some confusing or misleading wording used in some parts of the video, I’d like to clear those up here! In 2:07, it’s mentioned that the layouts come from the animation directors, but this may give the impression that ADs are the ones who draw those layouts. In reality, the key animators draw the layouts, and then ADs make corrections to those. After that comes the genga phase, where a key animator (who may or may not be the same person who drew the layouts) will apply these corrections and draw the cleaned-up keyframes. This is the phase the animator is working on in the video. (There may also be additional corrections from animation directors after this phase.) In 11:40, Gigguk’s asking about the amount of background artists per episode. Fujishiro says it’s about five, but he was really only talking about the studio’s own in-house background artists. There is of course outsourcing involved for this part of the production as well, and most studios, including J.C.Staff, cannot produce all the background art by themselves. In addition, many backgrounds tend to be reused across episodes (with slight modifications), so it’s not like you actually get hundreds of unique backgrounds drawn per episode. in 16:24, the subtitles say “filming”, but a more common translation for 撮影 in this context is photography. But as the process in anime doesn’t involve photographing anymore, the most accurate term for the process nowadays is *compositing* (this term is commonly used in Japanese as well).

The video itself is also extremely respectful to the speaker in that it allows them to talk freely and not be interrupted by a translator. Imagine if Hollywood actually "prepared like an exam" reading source material when adapting video games, books, and comic movies. What a NOVEL idea.
@LouisSubearth3 жыл бұрын
They do. However there's more creative freedom in Hollywood that allows for plot lines that make more sense to sell movie tickets than they do to adapt the source material.
@laforestadeimillepugnali38653 жыл бұрын
95% of production actually do that. It' s the executives that often goes "But why there isn' t a sex scene for western market thoo?" It's exactly how it can sometimes happens to anime, with the "fanservice" or other things. Every market cater towards his audience.
@red_light_39373 жыл бұрын
Hypothetically enough writers (at the least) do. Then the directors, producers, and execs, and sometimes writers decide to inject their own b/s ideas anyways. Making it suck for everyone watching. God I love anime...
@TheEmolano3 жыл бұрын
Idk there's this culture in the west where they try to interpret the source material instead of adapt it. This is why people love lord of the rings, because almost everything that it's in the books is in the movie too(but I would trade that expanded romance for the Hobbits battle at the end).

What a lot of people overseas fail to understand, it's that anime and manga are made for the japanese first, which is logical since it's the popularity at home which will be the deciding factor if an anime/manga is cancelled. The fact that it's popular or not overseas isn't taken into account by the producer/editor.
